@coolknot1- i agree with you that leon had less time but it was really a set play into the forward 50 that turned out to be a good goal... rioli got the turnover during a re-bound from defense from in between two players, evaded a two tackles and a chase and found space in all that at the end and kicked it, it was the better goal

why do people think abletts is shit?it was in the wet, he was running at the boundary line, not along it, and pulled it across his body and split the middle in a pocket thats notoriously hard to kick goals from....fully deserves to be in the top goals of the year. riolis was genius, deserved winner. I prefer goals where the player has worked hard to get possession, evaded opponents and then finished it all off with nice goal

Rioli's goal is clearly the best. Because he shrugs 1 tackle, shrugs another, shrugs another, handballs it to teammate and gets the ball back and GOAL! And all in a little space. Fev's was alright but Rioli shrugging 3 tackles is nearly impossible.

Rioli's goal deserved to be the goal of the year. It was a display of both skill and determination.

Ablett's goal shouldn't even be in the top 5. If his name was Smith people wouldn't be rating it so highly.

Ablett's goal was sensational. That is one of the hardest pockets to kick a goal from in ideal conditions. His shot on goal is one that I would have deemed to be impossible considering the fact that the wind was swaying the goal posts a few feet at the top. Rioli's goal probably did deserve to be goal of the yearm but Ablett's certainly deserved a mention.

Goal of the year is actually best goal scoring play of the year, has always been. Abletts is pretty stock standard boundary goal but because he kicked it everyone made a fuss, LeCras snap over his shoulder from the pocket was better. Cyril was a clear winner.

i gotta say, the first 2 goals shouldn't really be contenders, for me, simply throwing your boot at the ball in mid-air is not all that difficult.

Ablett's was a fair call for contender, running 90 degrees away from the goals, on the boundary line from 45m out and able to snap it back is a decent kick.

Leon Davis' goal was skillful as always by him, but Cyril Rioli's vision and elusiveness was brilliant in itself and then to have the nerve to steady for a goal, deserved winner.

Didnt deserve goal of the year. Leons was just as good & he had just as much persistance to it. But Leon wouldnt get it as he does it week in & out. Abletts was a pearler. Im not a cats fan but that should have won it for me.

It annoys me that ablett's goal is in the top five. Players do that every week. Fevola did it last year against Essendon. Riewoldt against Hawthorn. Osborne did it this year against Fremantle. If the panel was going for "freakish goals" then so many should've been included instead of Ablett's, but they now judge according to the skillful individual effort type goals, (and rioli is a deserving winner.)
