In the 27 running's to date of the BC Mile, the race has been won by a filly or mare 8 different times. By far the most among any of the Breeders Cup races that are open to both male and female runner's. Royal Heroine won the first running in 84'. The great filly Miesque in 87' and 88'. Ridgewood Pearl in 95'. Six Perfections in 03'. And of course, the great Goldikova in the 08', 09', and 10'.

Quite frankly the BC isn't that big of a deal for us over here, It's at the wrong time of the year, Most of our best horses are tucked up for the winter,

Yeah I forgot Dangerous Midge, who quite simply made that his trademark win. He will never duplicate it, how does that make him superior? Like Super Saver in his Derby win. European horses aren't bred for versatility like ours, we have Dirt, Turf, and Synthetic. Even in your specialty of Turf, your horses still come short to the Americans.

@queenluciaa - Wow pretty bold statement, considering The quality of horses the Euro's have been pumping out the last 5 years?.We get a LOT of Euro's up here at Woodbine, because of our world class Turf Course,and New(unfortunately) Poly track and they have some of the most versatile runners in the world. Last time I checked the Dubai World cup was run on Dirt for a 13yrs. Americans are bred for speed, and use Drugs. Euro's compete drug free. That should be step one of their dominance alone.

@queenluciaa - Also you do know that Sea the Stars, and Zarkava are simply far too classy of Champions to be mentioned alongside the likes of Zenyatta, and any other hyped up US Media lead fantasies you call champions. The ONLY truly great horses from the last decade who can even come close to a Euro Star like those stated above is Ghostzapper, Curlin, and Rachel Alexandra(2009 Campaign). Even their 3 yr old PHENOM FRANKEL would beat this crop of 3 yr olds in America this year.

I get it, your biased to European horses. I an agree with you about Zenyatta, her career was all smoke and mirrors. But the likes of Frankel is trained strictly to turf, you don't know how they would fair to America's dirt surface. This years crop of 3 year-olds is extremely talented. Including Uncle Mo, Dialed In, Kathmanblu, Turbulent Descent,Dancinginherdreams, and so on. You have Snow Fairy and Frankel, and who else?

@queenluciaa - How is that group you speak of fairing?. You forgot Mucho Macho Man( Who will win the Derby), aside from Dialed In?. Khat, and Dancing were embarressed by a 48-1 Lilacs & Laces....I picked Arthurs Tale(off an Allowance win, and 2 weeks rest) to beat Mo, and he did :). The 3 year old Crop this year is not Strong. Look at Pluck, cannot beat an allowance field, and finishes last in a G3 at Keeneland, and his connections want to go to the 2000 Guineas, and Derby?. DreamAhead, Hooray.

How, may I ask? Dirt horses have always run consistently faster than european horses at the same distance. If you look at Frankel's most recent win, it was terribly slow as opposed to Goldikova's American Mile.

@berrypainter I know its a couple of years now but how good must Zarkava be. The only horse to really be able to put Goldi in her place. I think thats 12 Group 1's now for Goldi. 8 against colts. A truly amazing miler who seems to be getting better with age. Don't retire her Freddie. BTW OP John Velázquez is not the jockey. Oliver Peslier

Zenyatta. Well, through all the bullshit surrounding her she beat colts ONCE. Just once. A sub standard field at that. A very ordinary achievement in my book.

@corny165 Zarkava did beat Goldikova once over a mile, but Goldie did throw the race away at the start, she did throw the jocky at the start would not go into the stalls and was down on her nose when the gates opened she was lucky to get back in the race ate all never mind come second, the other time was over 11f a trip Goldikova does not get, Zarkava was built like a colt and very foward for her age where as Goldikova was much smaller and took a little more time to come to hand. only one horse>

what a beautiful turn of foot from goldikova!!!, but the negative part of this breeders cup day is the defeat of a legendary horse ZENYATTA!!!!, his jockey just failed this time as he took too many time to move zenyatta and he was never in a striking position from where he was with this marvellous horse!!!!, zenyatta would have won this race easily without this error!!!!!!!!!!!!

@corny165 I have just been looking on the Time Form website and the ratings are Goldikova 133  to So You Think 130+ how does that make them even that was Published 19/10/10 before Goldikova win in the Breaders Cup, on the NUMBER 1 BY NATION Goldikova still comes in at 133 but So You Think is only ranked 127

My data comes from a number of newsppaper reports, based on data after the Melbourne Cup, They are not from the official site which you mention here. These rating are quite old. The rating came from local Timeform experts who were interviewed. The rating given was provisionally 133.

I agree that if you want the official rating, it is still 130+ until they update it. I also don't think Harbinger is still racing.

@kelletman I didn't check the timeform website. I read an interview with Gary Crispe who compiles ratings for Timeform in Australia a while back. He suggested he'd be given a rating of 133. 130+ is a tad more conservative but i wouldn't say Mr. Crispe is far wrong.

I cannot see her record ever been brocken as G1s are very competitive in Europe, if she was to win the BCM again she will bring the roof down, she will be a very hard act to follow. the only horse that could have beaten her over a mile on her favoured ground was Good Ba Ba from Hong Kong, but he changed stables and lost his form, notice I said could have not would have

@corny165 You are not good at reading between the lines are you, so I will make it simple for you, it means I am not sure who would have won, Good Ba Ba is past is best, but form lines between Goldikova, Darjina, Paco Boy Natagora in Prix du Moulin Longchamp and Good Ba Ba & Darjina & Natagora in the in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile ( can be seen on YouTube) sujests Good Ba Ba would have given Goldikova a real race, you also have the form lines Goldikova Kip Deville, Good Ba Ba, Kip Deville

@kelletman Good Ba Ba was a great miler but he was a real one trick pony in that he only acted on one track and has never travelled well. In Sha Tin, Hong Kong, he would have given Goldikova a real race, but Goldi is a lot more tactically versatile so Good Ba Ba would likely be giving her a start; draws would be a big factor.

Good Ba Ba would have given her a race in Sha Tin, but Goldi would beaten him out of sight on any other track. Kip Deville got a bad trip and hung badly vs. Good Ba Ba.

Goldikova and Paco Boy would give him every chance against Goldikova because he had a great turn of foot too, you are right what you says about Goldikova and her tactically versatile but Kip Deville was not in the same league as Goldi and was flattered to finish so close to her and KD was never going to beat GBB in Hong Kong full stop
