  • Hold on to your seat (Shudder!). Or whatever you got.

  • Think the hot twirly drummer is his wife! SWORD CAM action is ace, high budget! I can confirm he does still wear this outfit all year round!

  • I can't help chuckling at how he's gone to all the trouble of dressing as a Highland warrior and then finishes it off with white socks and Clarks shoes. Anyway, he's clearly a hell of a character and you gotta respect him for that. In fact, I think he should audition for The X Factor - I'd pay good money to see Simon Cowell get attacked with a claymore....

  • I watched this in the 80s, liked it then, lovin it now, not seen it since the 80s but I think it should be revamped slightly and used for our national anthem, quality.

  • So awful it's great

  • and he does still wear a kilt

  • good work jesse

  • considering this was the eighties, has anyone noticed the flying sward then the twin towers..... just a thought.

  • Been obsessed with this song since I saw him in Glasgow. Would love to do a cover version buy can't quite get the lyrics

  • "....just like the claymore flying free". EPIC !

  • one of his songs was a hit in the time and he also wrote songs for other bands i think he wrote one for u2

  • @999999kyle I think he wrote "Inside out" for Odessy, massive disco hit 80's

  • i know him i live where he lives :)

  • Any video wi a black dude in a kilt break-dancing has to be respected. :)

Great tune, I love how he blends traditional scottish with synthy pop of the time and then goes full boar new york 80's funk at the end. The first bridge is pretty powerful stuff. :)

  • Weird... but I like it.

  • Wow I bet you Scots are pleased with this!

    Snigger...

  • Wow I bet you Scots are pleased with this !

    Snigger...

  • For the love of god, this video makes me ashamed of being a highlander!!!! What a TWAT!

  • @AirborneGod

I think you should pour a glass of that famous fire water and smile. Have another look and listen. Someone just scored.

  • i GUESS YOU DID OK

  • Jessae played at the Castle Pub in Bamburgh, Northumberland on Friday 15 April - an entertaining evening.

  • Isn't the very pretty lady in this video his wife? I'm sure I read that somwhere.

  • This is a lot better than I remember it. I remember being at a highland games in the borders years ago and Jesse was cutting about in the full gear, helmet and all.

  • ILLLLLLL!!!!!! THIS VIDEO IS WACK!!! THEIR STUPID !!!

  • great song and video, remember this on tube ,could never find it in london record shops, stunning bird playin the drum, bit like billy mckenzie, the song not the bird.,

  • wa hay fucking brilliant stuff.

  • I love this song - this is a Scotsman being proud of his country. As an Englishman, I'm guessing he probably hates my guts, but what the fuck. Nice one Jesse.

  • @feebeejeebees Jesse's a lovely guy, always wears his outfit when out of the house, and has no problem at all with English people (I'm one). It's been a pleasure working with him over the last few weeks :-)

  • scotsmaninusa - cheers for that! It's great to see Jesse still doing his stuff - interestingly there was a comment on here about 7 months ago asking Jesse to get in touch with Adam as he wanted to do some work with him. I wonder if the London Scala gig was the result?

  • @ Cannop check out watch?v=nsS0_JUw-hc

.Jesses piled on the pounds but is still gigging in the full scottish garb

  • ahh the memories

  • i haven't heard this in twenty years, Brilliant then, Brilliant now.

  • I'm confused, are you guys all taking the piss? I'm worried that a bunch of yanks are going to come on here and think were all like this clown in Inverness.

  • @mmorrison69 This Scottish music at its best you should be proud of this...yet AGAIN Scotland showing em how it's done...bring on the Yanks!

  • @jackjude Have you never heard Big country, the Skids or Wired Desire?

  • @mmorrison69 ...aye. This, Fields of Fire, and Into the Valley are what I listen on the bus on the way in to work. Weird Desires, I have not heard.

  • i love this song and video being a scot living in england, where is the main man now,i have the picture disc, quite rare then even more rare now,i wont beat around the bush but this song is probably his best effort, lets be honest there is some well dodgy stuff out there but he is a trier a persistant one at that,i just hope he is sat this very cold decembers night in front of a rageing log fire in his scottish castle with his hounds,Jesse i hope you read this, all the best for 2011,all the best.

  • seen him live so many times dont know why he never made it

  • Love it! Saw it on The Tube in 85, loved it immediately, still love it now. That little lad in the opening scene must be about 36 /37 now!

And I'm still in love with the drummer girl who I belive was Jessie's fiance at the time?

  • Comment removed

  • takes me back ;)

  • I had this on 7" picture disc. Jesse in full garb, the disc was shaped to fit his image. The song used to appear on Max Headroom quite a lot if I remember correctly.

  • Lexyboy - I too remember making that video. That was me at the start :-). However, one of the other drummers was Stuart Hunter, not Dougie Auld. That was great fun back then :-)

  • Outstanding!!! Remeber it first time should have been massive!

  • Remember this very well, the drummers were all with Craigmount Pipe Band at the same time as my young sister. The pretty Tenor Drummer, Audrey was Jesses girlfriend at the time, and now is Mrs Rae his wife I believe.

The 4 young drummers are the Blaikie Brothers (Craig who opened the scene) and Gordon (Rear left on the Castle Bridge - sadly no longer with us). The other two I believe are Stevie & Douglas Auld. This was videoed around the mid 80's .

  • absolutely brilliant, loved watching this when i was younger! up there with the best of scottish music!

  • I too remember this, I have been looking for this for ages, great song and stunning looking girl. Great post thankyou very much

  • first saw this on max headroom and have loved it ever since. good song and video.keep trying to find a copy when im working in scotland but have had no luck so far.

  • @shorewoodisgay

    Oh piss off

  • I remember buying the single of this ,In England Jesse insisted on the single having the old "Imported" sticker on it .

  • Great to see this again i remember the premier showing, great to hear your still gigging Jesse

  • I've never forgotten this song, it's magic.

  • A true border reiver!!!

  • he lives in the scottish borders, near me. i see him occassionally. he still wears the whole costume! even the sword!

  • @mmyyppaarrttyy

If you see him, tell him Adam Ant is interested in working with him! He appreciates this song a lot! x

  • He is my neighbour !

  • I love this - should be Scotland's national anthem! BRING BACK JESSE - WE NEED YOU NOW MORE THAN EVER!! :)

  • I only ever saw this video twice all those years ago, but I remember it fondly.

  • anyone else notice a couple of buildings that aint there anymore?

  • fucking weird.seen him waalking about my home town...........prefer his disco stuff.

  • hes a lot older now, i live in Scotland and he came to my school a few weeks ago, he dresses like that all the time and he also carries his sword around

  • I remember from The Tube that the pretty drummer lass was Jesse's girlfriend.

He was madder than a box of of squirrels, but I really did like this video.

  • Jesse was/is an absolute spanner, but I loved this track and the video, especially.

The pretty lass was his girlfriend at the time; or at least that 's what they said on The Tube.

  • Last comment is absolute nonsense.

  • Not many people know this but Jesse Rae was actually Sydney Devine. In disguise.

  • the tube was the start to my weekend , video in everyweek , worked in currys on yts at time so had access to unlimited blank videos , if you know what i mean , anyway talk about memories , this vid and also tube diehards must remember indians in moscow , and foffo spearjig , thanx for posting this , great stuff

  • why america if this song is about ex pats most emigrated to canada

  • Not if he's hoping to be a politician, needs more diplomacy now. Good luck to him for the MEPs this year. I'd like to see Jesse at Brussels swinging that claymore.

  • This has to be one of the best videos ever made!

    Thanks for uploading it.

  • not seen or heard this for decades glad its on here, think the girl in the video was jesses girlfriend at the time, i believe Adam Ant was influenced by jesse dont know if that is good or bad.

  • They would never be allowed to film on the Brooklyn Bridge now with all the extreme security : wonderful stuff with the W.T.C in background.

    It's actually well edited .

Good stuff and why should'nt he share his opinions! their probably justified

  • It's insane really but I actually quite like it!

  • I also remember seeing this vid and have the 12" pic disc as a result!.Was great to see it again after all this time,Thanks for posting.

  • Basically this is absolutely brilliant. Should have been a smash.

  • I saw this at the time and the general response was

lol and wtf . He was well named if he couldnt keep his opinions to himself.

Good head for heights those boys.

1:18 careful where you're swinging that claymore Jessie , you'll have one of those towers over !

  • This is a brilliant record, but I think, at the time of its release Jesse was quoted as saying in the music press that he "hated the English" and nobody in the business wanted to know him after that...

  • This is without doubt the most ludicrous video of the entire 80s, and that's no mean feat. No wonder it didn't chart! Even the 80s couldn't cope with it!

  • yeh but you got to remember this was the 80,s the time of hazy fantazy and it is a good tune and the chuick is a wee honey.

  • it got to 65... depends what you define as "chart"

  • Comment removed

  • If you HAD lived in the 80's you would say something as stupid as that.

  • Good to know that the U.S. wasn't the only country to suffer through the eighties.

  • That black guy was in the 'stop makin sense' video. playin keyboards if I remember correctly?

  • ok, watch 'cross eyed and painless' I think you will find it's him!

  • gotta be Bernie Worrell, of Parliament/Funkadelic/Bootsy/Clinton AND Taling Heads fame...

  • Shut up you silly racist

  • reminds me of the 80s friday evenings class song

  • this is excellent footage saw jesse many times at johnsons in dunfermline in the 80's LOVE IT!!!!

have vinyl 12" of be yersel classic

  • He should have been in Highlander instead of that French bloke with the dodgy accent. Jesse Rae - there can be only one.

Great song, great video - Thanks for posting this.

  • Fab video..... The Dog in Me is excellent too.....

    Vote for Jesse!!!!

  • Does anyone have the mp3 for this? Great song!

  • I remember this the first time around, I thought it was wonderful at the time, lol. In hindsight, it's pretty terrible but a good visit to nostalgia though.

  • I wish someone would post the Video of D.E.S.I.R.E.

  • The weirdest thing about Jesse Rae is the collaboration with Tackhead,

  • How the hell did he get the cash to fund what is obviously an expensive video?

  • I have this track on a 7 inch vinyl picture disc, only problem is...I hav'nt go a record player that plays vinyl records :o)

Its good to hear it again though.

  • An Englishman and a Scotsman were having an arguement. The englishman said "Take you lochs, glens, mountains, kilts and bagpipes out of Scotland and what are you left with?" The scotsman replied "England!"

  • first black football captain in the world was william morton of scotland, first man to be done in for wearing a kilt after jacobian rebellion was a black scotsman.dont be a rascist arayan scot

  • If the girl is wearing a kilt and white stilettoes, does that make her half scottish and half essex? Probably ex-Dagenham Girl Pipers

  • Great song. Beautiful video. Thank you, thank you for sharing this bit of precious nostalgia!

  • never heard of jesse since i saw at the rail bridge centenary concert

  • miss scotland ....this makes it worse ....i`ll be back

  • Good on Ya Jesse, excellent track mate!.

Remember seeing this on Max Headroom, dunno if it was vid trickery but standing on a bridge support swinging a Claymore took some marbles.

  • brilliant

  • awsome song! ma dad has it on his Scottish album. luv this video Yeh! :P

  • Total Gem of the 80's - brought a smile to my face.

  • Yeah, I heard he was an MSP Canae understand why his music wasn't more popular tho

  • What's Jessie doing these days?

  • was busted for his sword a couple of years back, then stood in politics last year. great to see this again after over 20 years! :)

  • What the hell happened to his "Rusha" video? That's one of the best videos i've ever seen an and great song.

  • i,ts one of them songs i can,t get out my mind pure class

  • brillian tune.... makes me proud of my Scottish roots.

  • The drummer who wipes her tears is actualy jesses wife audrey........She doesnt have a gag reflex!

  • I just about remember this one! Just crept into the lower reaches of the chart, and I've searched in record shops, on iTunes and various file sharing networks, but never found it! Once again, though, YouTube delivers the goods!!

    Many thanks.

  • I love this song and video the scenery is great and it makes me feel all patriotic lol. Ive been looking on the net for the lyrics but cant find them anybody know what they are.

  • Bllo eens.

  • Uncle Jessie...it's me Gavin. My other uncle is Joe Mangel.

  • Brilliant.

  • is he Scottish (lol)i remember this from the tube

  • Great blast from the past....& Jesse seems like your average sort of bloke.......

  • Jings, crivvens & help ma boab...that wiz braw!

  • Not The Highlander lol, the film was just called Highlander.

  • The castle in the video is Eilean Donan Castle which was the same castle used in The Highlander.

  • This video has too much precious moments not to become a LJ avatar. The sword swinging.... The sword-guitar. It's too much! O_O

  • anyone for raerolling?

  • One of these days, where I actually remembered to look something up when I got home from work. Glad I did....was the rumour he had a big record deal signed up, but refused to record it outside Scotland? Funny how you ask so called music fans, 'Have you ever heard of Jesse Rae', only to be faced with a shrug of the shoulders and a shake of the head. Good to hear it again.

  • I first seen this videoin a prog introduced by John Peel & Roger Walters.I thought then,WOW,mind you i was young and impressionable. And I did fall in love on sight with the Drummer girl big time.Never seen it again till now.And guess what, she's not aged a day and still as gorgeous...does anyone ken her lol

  • The bonnie lassie in the video is or was Jesse's girlfriend, possibly wife now and they lived in the scottish borders near St Boswells

I loved Jesse Rae lol xXx

  • Agreed! That gal is gorgeous!

  • I loved this song and video when it was out.. but i have no idea where i saw and heard them!!

Interesting to see Peter Nardini mentioned below... thought i was the only Nardini fan! Good to hear bands like Glasvegas, Arab Strap, and the Viw singing in their natural accents , instead of some transatlantic drawl!

  • This man is a legend and should be making a come back.

  • I guess, it is, like a lot of generational stuff. You had to be there. I remember Live Aid, seeping from every audio system in Edinburgh, what a cool day. Jessie Rae and Peter Nardini were at the very least singing rock, without a pseudo-American accent. Unlike most of the Sassenach (saesnag/saxon) poseurs in rock.

    Jock Rock? Why not?

Oh, and...Stovieboy, tell yer Ma to ring me if she ever divorces, she was the apple of my "ee" then. beautiful lady!

rock on Jessie! fun Track. 5 stars!!!!!!!!!

  • I wrote a song with Jesse for the Border Reivers Rugby when I lived in Galashiels, he dented my Fekin radiator with his sword and feked up my drive with his pre-war Landrover but it was worth it to work with a Legend.

  • A pre-war Landrover??? Are you drinking? or are you talking about another war?

  • jesse also wrote and sang backing vocals on inside out by oddessy many moons ago,and that was a brilliant track, guid on ye jesse!

  • Am so glad to see this again after so long, it's a classic. I too remember seeing it on the all night video show, have been tryig to see it ever since.

Has anyone git the video for Chas jankels questionaire?

  • oh no, the blond slapper wi the drums is ma maw,and awe ma pals are watchin...

  • shes a fox

  • come on jesse ur the best.going 2 dig out the album

  • Godlike genius from a decent scot fuck

  • Jesse Rae was cool in the 80s and still is in the 2000s. He made me immensley proud of my country back then, and still does. Good on ya Jesse, and I would love to meet you and your bonnie Scottish Lassie. I'm proud of you both. Any Scot would be. RTK(Vancouver B.C., ex. Edinburgh)

  • wtf!! idss iss sshit!!

  • Makes me smile and watch it over again for some inexplicable reason....the music alone is not the reason. Original, certainly! What about a comeback, JR?

  • does she ever actually hit the drum or just twirl the sticks around endlessly and never do anything

  • The music on this track is amazing! Love the synths.
