Actually, not quite. Child labor, id that's what you're talking about, was due to the scarcity of products, making the whole family instead of just the parents to work in order to afford a living. If we had made Anti-Child Labor Laws too early, families actually might've been even more impoverished. Eventually, because of the mass production going under way, child labor would end because it would require less people in the family to work in order for them as a whole to survive.
It's not any law that magically solved the problem. Again, had it been illegal, families would either be impoverished or will break the law to try to survive, since the whole family unit needs to work to have enough purchasing power for necessities. Until there is abundance, of course, and higher value of the dollar, which is what they were in the process of creating.

It's interesting that: 1) Color of Change is the organization behind encouraging these companies to pull their ads, 2) that Color of Change was founded by Van Jones, 3) Van Jones was the Green Jobs "czar" discussed on Glenn Beck, 4) the campaign to pull ads started AFTER Beck first talked about Van Jones. I'd say these companies are being political. In fact, I would bet that the majority of the CEOs lean to the left and are receiving federal dollars one way or another.
This is also suggestions from my eight year old daughter. She complained that kids don't do fun things while learning at the same time. She said teachers were not actually teaching but sending work home with the students so strapped parents are doing it. She said theyy practice adding for a week and then move to subtraction next week without kids being able to do the math quickly. She said she has monkey bars on the playground no more swings or slides.
The way the schools are set up now is children are to pressured to learn quickly, and they are not learning. To much test anxiety, and they are not doing fun things to enjoy learning. If children didn't have stress in the classroom then they wouldn't want to leave. They look at school as if they are going to work not enjoying learning at all. The schools are the one's that have the choice of whether or not to participate in this speech. Some districts allow the teachers to chose, some the principle, and some the entire county school board. I believe that the whole state of Texas will oppt out of showing the speech as well as another state. I'm not worried about my kids and as long as you teach your children properly you shouldn,t be either. Keeping your kids out of school just says that you are scared. Just prepare your children .

I don't know about that. my kids are learning things in Jr. high that I didn't learn until high school. What I think is wrong is that the schools don't seem to teach as much of the fundamental history of our country and eventually it may very well be forgotten. If things were so great in other countries then they wouldn't be trying to come to America. The main problem with our schools is over crowding.
That is fine for high school, but elementary age kids are easily swayed and that's the main ones that are being targeted. Just as it's the schools that have the choice whether or not to listen, I have the choice as a parent to what my child is subjected to at 8 years old. Yes I am scared and not afraid to say so. It is our responsibility to teach our children values and right from wrong. If you are worried about your children being brainwashed then make it your objective to teach them that an open mind is the gateway to all true knowledge and wisdom. It's interesting that: 1) Color of Change is the organization behind encouraging these companies to pull their ads, 2) that Color of Change was founded by Van Jones, 3) Van Jones was the Green Jobs "czar" discussed on Glenn Beck, 4) the campaign to pull ads started AFTER Beck first talked about Van Jones. I'd say these companies are being political. In fact, I would bet that the majority of the CEOs lean to the left and are receiving federal dollars one way or another.

This is also suggestions from my eight year old daughter. She complained that kids don't do fun things while learning at the same time. She said teachers were not actually teaching but sending work home with the students so strapped parents are doing it. She said theyy practice adding for a week and then move to subtraction next week without kids being able to do the math quickly. She said she has monkey bars on the playground no more swings or slides.

The way the schools are set up now is children are to pressured to learn quickly, and they are not learning. To much test anxiety, and they are not doing fun things to enjoy learning. seeeeeeems so innocent...Jesus led us right out of the schools 4 yrs ago... happily under a Great Christian Homeschool...not only is this crazy...but only the decerning can see the tricks they are really trying to pull..but, another insane thing they did, over here in CA is pass a SB77(allows all kids to go in2 all bathrooms/lockerRooms) CRAZY! REAL FREEDOM is now outside of GOVERNMENT SCHOOLING..let the blind lead the blind.Christians get your kids out!Others continue2 not see 4 sure..

This is so stupid. You obviously have no idea regarding brain and curriculum research, which advocates building background knowledge prior to learning activities. A speech on good education might have done you well when you were a kid.

"What new ideas and actions is the President asking me to think about?"
No other President has ever turned his speech to children into a 'teaching moment' like this.

Gone are the days where you just show students something or have them read a book and don't engage them in thinking about it before, during, and after. Get a doctorate in education or read some of the most rife educational research and you might know this!

Under Hitler, teachers had to be careful what they said...as children were encouraged to *report* anything that didn't fit into the Nazi curriculum.
And...Obama has already hired a private firm to compile a list of anyone's comments that criticize him!

This video is actually the most ridiculous propaganda I have seen in a long time. I totally disliked GW Bush, but I would never have tried to stop my children from watching him give a message to the students as in 1991. This kind of claims of "brainwashing, indoctrinating, etc. helps to make more people want to watch this important message. Thank you for helping "them". I assume that you mean the Democrats???

You never got to the indoctrination part. I just saw a great game plan to give kids better understanding that they can set goals and achieve them. Is there a second part to this? I'd love to see where the indoctrination comes in. I've searched online for 2 weeks and found nothing.

The schools are the one's that have the choice of whether or not to participate in this speech. Some districts allow the teachers to chose, some the principle, and some the entire county school board. I believe that the whole state of Texas will oppt out of showing the speech as well as another state. I'm not worried about my kids and as long as you teach your children properly you shouldn,t be either. Keeping your kids out of school just says that you are scared. Just prepare your children .

I don't know about that. my kids are learning things in Jr. high that I didn't learn until high school. What I think is wrong is that the schools don't seem to teach as much of the fundamental history of our country and eventually it may very well be forgotten. If things were so great in other countries then they wouldn't be trying to come to America. The main problem with our schools is over crowding.

That is fine for high school, but elementary age kids are easily swayed and that's the main ones that are being targeted. Just as it's the schools that have the choice whether or not to listen, I have the choice as a parent to what my child is subjected to at 8 years old. Yes I am scared and not afraid to say so. I am scared to what is happening to our country.

I can't disagree there. My only hope is that children at that age will be totally bored and not pay any attention, so as long as it's not drilled into them daily they will forget everything they heard.

I think I'm having trouble seeing the bad parts of this :\ its not like he's going to tell our kids to join our "glorious military" or some shit. its going to be a "stay in school, eat healthy, dont do drugs" thing. and what if he does teach your kids about personal responsibility? what if the class has to share thoughts? what does obama want me to do? "now kids, please try not to go into debt. its bad." seems fine to me.
If your really that freaked out about it then go to school with your kids.

How is this any different than the tactics of the original community organizer (Alinsky)? How would the left feel about equal coverage, where Rush speaks to children in a telecast for the exact same period of time, following Obama and then a libertarian speaker!
