  • which pickups do u have?

  • What song is this?

  • Nice sound!

@415System it's the song called "Flying whales" from the album "From Mars to Sirius".

  • if it doesn't sound good on your guitar, here is a little tip: just take a metal plec or a coin or something and scratch it from the highest string to the lowest (like in the vid) and use the side of the plec (or coin or whatever) . this gives a very close sound to the original :)

  • Wow, thanks so much That was puzzling me for the longest time :D

  • "gojira sound" uhm no. its just pickgrinding, that shit exists for years

  • @hideki12345 fuk you it's called the gojira sound dammit! don't EVER badmouth gojira again you bastard

  • @jzamora999

are you brainfucked or what? did I say anything bad about gojira? think again you stupid overreacting piece of shit

  • i dont understand. i am an avid gojira fan. i play guitar too, im not very good, so maybe this is why, but i wonder why i tune my guitar to d standard and everything, but when i try to learn gojira, its so hard cuz tabs i find say to bar the top two or three strings for the beginning of this song but when i play it sounds NOTHING like gojira. when u bar in a standard tuning the harmonic of the strings is all off. maybe i cant hear it in gojira cuz they have drums and bass? idk can someone help??

  • @y890x i used have the same problem as you mate, i found when playing gojira, palm muting is very very usefull, you see when your playing gojira, its not like your strumming those barre chords, its more like your "attacking" or spasming at them, if you let them ring out it sounds like shit, so try using a mix of palm muting and agressive picking and see how you go, hope i was clear in my explanation

  • @hellspawndarkangel thank you for your advice haha you were clear enough i am going to try to learn a complete song all the way through step by step as slow as possible to make sure i get it right haha

  • @y890x play it faster or your rhythm is off

  • Awesome ! Thanks a lot

  • youtube(dot)com/watch?v=M0NuFbezwS4&feature=related

  • great ! :D

Thumbs up si vous etes d'accord !

  • @NicklausBergen Sorry for not using French here. I'm not very good at it. Pantera was actually using this technique on Far Beyond Driven before Morbid Angel used it on Formulas Fatal to the Flesh. Don't get me wrong, I love Morbid Angel, but I'm just saying they weren't the first. On top of that, Morbid Angel does cite Pantera as an influence.

  • @s0cietysreject

Why do you think i was talking about "formulas"? (i don't really know this album) Morbid angel used this trick on older albums and i personally used this trick on the first album i recorded in 1997 so i don't say "Morbid " are the first but "Gojira aren't the first to use it" and i hate when people make shortcuts in music and believe that the few bands they know are the creators of all the sound they use in our album. That's the same if i say Suffocation created the blast beat

  • @NicklausBergen Oh, actually, come to think of it, I think they used it in the breakdown right before the solo in "Rapture". I do know that they really didn't use it much before Formulas, which used it a lot. Also, pardon me, I may have misunderstood your comment because I'm terrible at French. And I agree that it's foolish to name a source of a sound. The term "blast beat" was coined by Napalm Death I think, but apparently similar beats appeared in some prior jazz compositions.

  • un sweatshirt de Osiris, Tres bien!

  • Morbid Angel used to do this

  • sucre!

    je comprend la technique. merci

  • merci!

  • @Edmister0 : yea the thumb works nicely and is a bit more solid in handling the pick. I do it on my "Nothing Is Not" Morbid angel cover.

  • Merci mec..!!

  • c est un plaisir

  • i finally figured it out!

even thought that's not how joe and christian do it

  • nice languages mix :)

  • i knew it was a sweep harmonic, but i could never get it to sound right. maybe cause i'm working with g-400 stock pickups

  • what song are you playing?

  • haha

    what a badass!

i was always wondering how they were making that sound

  • acutally, you can do this sound on the hole neck, not especialy the 5th fret, and the technic is just to slide above strings with your pck, thats all

  • Wooo, when i first heard it on Formulas fatal to the flesh i thought it`s whammy bar.

  • hum morbid angel faisaient ca bien avant gojira mais bon. on appelle ca un "rake", quand tu racles tes cordes quoi.

  • et behemoth aussi sur l'album Thelema.6

  • so you are using the side of the pick, which is to my guess rough due to erosive scraping against the strings, would i be correct in saying so?

  • such a good thing to do on a guitar ive been using it for 6 years in my songs

  • very nice! thanks :D

p.s. as for the haters: everybody knows everything, so just dont give a shit!!

  • lil mistake in riff

  • Yes !! Merci !

  • t'as vidéo m'a vraiment beaucoup aidé, merci

  • what type of pick is that?

  • Jazz III

  • holy shit i fucking love you. five stars

  • You definitely made 70% of all guitar-playing-Gojira fans a hell of a lot happier!

  • I wouldn't say 70%.. most guitar players experiment with the sounds a guitar make as well as learning how to play - maybe flip the number to 30%.

  • FINALY ive been looking for this for a while now! sirr u get a 5 starrrr

  • Kiss man

  • SLSMG!!

    Nice :P

  • its called a raked harmonic

    grotesque from perth do em

  • look at this video, Joe himslef explains how to do it: ** regular youtube url plus* AChF_Jekwqc

  • it didnt work?

  • METALLLLLLLLL!

  • i used to play it harmonics like at the 4th and 5th fret but some norwegian friends of mine told me how to do it and then i saw this from whenever, even greater help, been using it my band songs :P and so does Kratic (check em out) haha

  • Best French metal I know of.

  • deathspell omega rly

  • try scarve, my 2nd favorite french metal band

  • try Loudblast too ;)

  • @URAGR8M8 best metal I know* ;)

  • Only french metal I know of... Although it's my favourite band.

  • @TheWezel1995 there's also ultravomit they're very nice and funny... but lyrics are in french

  • lol u forgot to slide your hand down the fret while bringing the pic up ;P

  • its unnessasary as the sound is being heard from only the bottom pickup, and the sound is cut off from where the pic hits the stringto where it connects to the bridge

  • well its what Gojira do when they do it, watch World to Come live and you'll know wot i mean

  • they're doing that because they're holding the strings, then they have to go up to the first fret for palm muting. you'll notice its the same sound, i know how to play several songs from sirius

  • so can i :P

  • haha! very nice man!!

  • ive been trying to figure out how they do that sound for months . thanks for this

  • happy it could be useful, I saw this technic during an interview I believe, but unplug so I was wondering what was the sound with disto

  • i just played it as a pickslide before i saw this

  • Damn, joe and mario are some goddamn good french metal musicians!

  • yep, for sure :)

  • God damn, thanks

  • THANK YOU

  • cool merci ,je me demandais comment y fesait ca!

  • i fucking love that sound, proper tears you a new one.

  • Thanx. Great

  • quand on enten gojira on est fiere d'etre francais!

  • @PiErRe6363 Mais pas de ton orthographe...

  • @riccovd

  • @PiErRe6363 no freaking idea about what are you talking but it must be hardcore :]

  • Thanks so much! I've been wondering how to do that for a long time!

  • bravo mec

  • Dimebag used it too haha Gojira uses it more haha sounds like the best fill, Even Textures used it on Laments of an icarus from their new album,

  • not gojira sound! xD

they are very influenced by morbid angel and listen to the song nothing is not by morbid angel, there you have it. Morbid angel started with it, behemoth has also used it x)

  • of course, but there, it was especialy for this song of Gojira

  • Nice job. I've got a DKMGT too, great guitar. What position you got the pickup selector for this?? front, middle or back???

Ohh and what gauge strings you got on it?

    thanks

  • selector on the bridge, powerful for metal, i'm on 11-52

  • thanks man I couldnt figure that shit out. and im usually pretty good with making strange guitar noises

  • Hm. I thought it was played behind the pickups kinda like Jerry Cantrell does on "It AInt Like THat"

  • jerry cantrell is a lord!!!woohoo

oh ye and good to know how to do this to :) that sound mystified me a while, had no idea how to do it. cheers 4 the vid gobelinou

  • Sounds good :)

  • guitare: jackson dkmgt

    micros: emg 81 85

    amp: roland cube 60

    c'est tt :)

  • hello tu as très bon son, peut tu me dire ce que tu as comme matos pour jouer du gojira (guitare, micros, pédale) Merci Bonne continuation !

  • yeah pa mal c vrai k'on a du mal a le trouvé se truc Merci bocoup

  • u also need to slide your hand up the neck and its nuthin 2 do with harmonics
