if it doesn't sound good on your guitar, here is a little tip: just take a metal plec or a coin or something and scratch it from the highest string to the lowest (like in the vid) and use the side of the plec (or coin or whatever) . this gives a very close sound to the original :)
i dont understand. i am an avid gojira fan. i play guitar too, im not very good, so maybe this is why, but i wonder why i tune my guitar to d standard and everything, but when i try to learn gojira, its so hard cuz tabs i find say to bar the top two or three strings for the beginning of this song but when i play it sounds NOTHING like gojira. when u bar in a standard tuning the harmonic of the strings is all off. maybe i cant hear it in gojira cuz they have drums and bass? idk can someone help??
@y890x i used have the same problem as you mate, i found when playing gojira, palm muting is very very usefull, you see when your playing gojira, its not like your strumming those barre chords, its more like your "attacking" or spasming at them, if you let them ring out it sounds like shit, so try using a mix of palm muting and agressive picking and see how you go, hope i was clear in my explanation
@hellspawndarkangel thank you for your advice haha you were clear enough i am going to try to learn a complete song all the way through step by step as slow as possible to make sure i get it right haha

@NicklausBergen Sorry for not using French here. I'm not very good at it. Pantera was actually using this technique on Far Beyond Driven before Morbid Angel used it on Formulas Fatal to the Flesh. Don't get me wrong, I love Morbid Angel, but I'm just saying they weren't the first. On top of that, Morbid Angel does cite Pantera as an influence.
Why do you think i was talking about "formulas"? (i don't really know this album) Morbid angel used this trick on older albums and i personally used this trick on the first album i recorded in 1997 so i don't say "Morbid " are the first but "Gojira aren't the first to use it" and i hate when people make shortcuts in music and believe that the few bands they know are the creators of all the sound they use in our album. That's the same if i say Suffocation created the blast beat
@NicklausBergen Oh, actually, come to think of it, I think they used it in the breakdown right before the solo in "Rapture". I do know that they really didn't use it much before Formulas, which used it a lot. Also, pardon me, I may have misunderstood your comment because I'm terrible at French. And I agree that it's foolish to name a source of a sound. The term "blast beat" was coined by Napalm Death I think, but apparently similar beats appeared in some prior jazz compositions.
i used to play it harmonics like at the 4th and 5th fret but some norwegian friends of mine told me how to do it and then i saw this from whenever, even greater help, been using it my band songs :P and so does Kratic (check em out) haha
its unnessasary as the sound is being heard from only the bottom pickup, and the sound is cut off from where the pic hits the stringto where it connects to the bridge
they're doing that because they're holding the strings, then they have to go up to the first fret for palm muting. you'll notice its the same sound, i know how to play several songs from sirius
they are very influenced by morbid angel and listen to the song nothing is not by morbid angel, there you have it. Morbid angel started with it, behemoth has also used it x)

acutally, you can do this sound on the hole neck, not especialy the 5th fret, and the technic is just to slide above strings with your pck, thats all
