I do it in my kitchen sink and it turns out beautifully! I use lingerie bags to hold the fleece or wool. Oh, and you should use the hottest water you can find. Not cold water from your hose outside.
Yes, two washes (hot water, lots of soap), about 10 min. each. Two rinses I've found works best, sometimes a third is needed if you're using your buckets several times before replacing the water. If you'd like, I can email you more detailed instructions.
Don't use a front loader to spin your fleece, it tumbles it around too much.

All you need to be able to do is spin the excess water out of the fleece - a front loading machine will do this just fine.
