its not good running an engine without headers , the exhaust valve being open to the air while running. the valve will get hot durring the exhaust stroke, then get colder between engine cycles, then get hot again, then cold, then hot, then cold then hot then cold......
yes the rally car uses it. which the als (anti lag system) is altered to an extreme ignition timing (retard), where when the spark is fired when the exhaust valve is opening. puts great pressure on the manifolds and on the engine. benefits is that you get power from the turbo all the time even at idle, but lower the life span of the engine and the turbo.
i feel sorry for the dude that bought this half cut

So is the timing advanced on the engine? or just the exaust valves adusted to open sooner?

its gas being burnt...i think.. but in rally cars, i know they got anti lag wich opens exhaust valve and dumps gas and sparks it.
