If you were white and grew up around only white people, and then saw a group of asians, you would probably think they looked alike. If you were like me, and you grew up with friends who were mostly asian and brown, then you'd be able to tell them apart and not think they all look alike. It just depends on how much exposure you have to different races.
White people who live in the country = can't tell other races apart.
White people who live in multicultural areas = can tell apart.

What bugs me is that people forget that Asia includes more than East Asia. 70% of the world population live in Asia. China and India alone make up 2 billion people which is 1/3 of the world population. Asia has more variety than Europe. I have Iraqi, Indian and Iranian ancestry from my father's side. I think the reason people are on the whole Asians looks thing is because, even to me (I'm Black), people are sensitive about Nationality. I've heard asians say that all white people look alike. I think that differences in height and weight are greater in some countries, but in most SE asian countries most people are shorter and smaller. Yes, there's much less diversity in some asian countries, but they definitely do not look all the same. If they had spent time in different countries Asia, the Phillipines, Korea they would realize that asians do look different.

Is the question that all asians from ONE nationality such as Chinese all look alike or that all asian nationalities in general look alike or either or both? Neither, it's ignorance. I haven't seen many Asian people in real life, but when i watch Eastern Asian TV shows i do mix up characters much more often than i mix up Black or Caucasian people. They do actually tend to resemble each other a lot to me.

I think it's probably due to the culture I was brought up in, on European TV you never see many Asians, only Europeans or Americans. That's why I don't think I'm able to distinguish between Asian faces as well as I am able to distinguish a Caucasian face. I think the hair and eye colour really helps when noticing differences between people but since most Asians have Black hair/Brown eyes it's a little more difficult D:

It's just a matter of perception and habit i think. Five years ago i couldn't distinguish most of asian faces, all looked just the same. And when i started watchin doramas and stuff, i started seeing individual traits in every asian face, and futhermore, i learned, in general, how to make out the nation.

If you were white and grew up around only white people, and then saw a group of asians, you would probably think they looked alike. If you were like me, and you grew up with friends who were mostly asian and brown, then you'd be able to tell them apart and not think they all look alike. It just depends on how much exposure you have to different races.

I've heard asians say that all white people look alike. I think that differences in height and weight are greater in some countries, but in most SE asian countries most people are shorter and smaller. Yes, there's much less diversity in some asian countries, but they definitely do not look all the same. If they had spent time in different countries Asia, the Phillipines, Korea they would realize that asians do look different.

Is the question that all asians from ONE nationality such as Chinese all look alike or that all asian nationalities in general look alike or either or both? Neither, it's ignorance. I haven't seen many Asian people in real life, but when i watch Eastern Asian TV shows i do mix up characters much more often than i mix up Black or Caucasian people. They do actually tend to resemble each other a lot to me.
So, i guess people who, like me, haven't seen many Eastern Asians generalize based on the small experience they have. It is wrong, but i don't think it's stupid and it's definitely not racist.

I think it's probably due to the culture I was brought up in, on European TV you never see many Asians, only Europeans or Americans. That's why I don't think I'm able to distinguish between Asian faces as well as I am able to distinguish a Caucasian face. I think the hair and eye colour really helps when noticing differences between people but since most Asians have Black hair/Brown eyes it's a little more difficult D:

Why people separating West Asian and Central Asian as Asian? A lot of the Western and Central Asian look Caucasians. They even part of ASIAN GAMES.
Everyone only considers South East Asian and North East Asian as Asians. South Asian are Asians too...

@impinai79 Yes, everyone considers just Chinese looking Asians as Asians. We all know Indians are Asians too, but we consider them Indian. Also for example Iranians are located in Asia but we consider them Arab.... AThat's just the way it is, when people think of Asia they think of cultures inspired by Confucianism.
People imagine samurai, kung-fu, tech factories, robots, overcrowded modern cities... Hey when they imagine Europe they imagine cafe's and soccer but not all EU is like that.

@HachimitsuBoy85 I think the description of Asian should be more on Geographical Term same as those European of Europe. We all have different colors, physical features to be categorized as race. Well I think South East Asians are more look alikes than the East Asian but if you check Filipinas has chinese-filipinos that looks more East Asians too. some might look caucasian or polynesian, Philippines has 50,000 amerasians, plus indigenous people like aetas, a lot of us looks austronesians too.

@HachimitsuBoy85 of course Indian are from India that is more on as Nationality/Origin Description of a person. but Asian word was derived from the word ASIA and ASIA 47 to 48 countries with sub-continent group of Northeast, Southeast, South, West and Central Asia that's is why we are Asian is because we are in Asia and technically located in Southeast Asia. They are also an Asian brothers & sisters. Is China the original Asian?

I read that America gave this description why they are getting people confused. The Pacific islander term to Filipinos also came from United States lol. what's going on? people are getting confused with this terms.

@impinai79 I'm quite well informed when in comes to Asia... I don't get people confused, and I know the definition of a race... I'm just stating what most normal US people think when you mention ASIAN... and they think Chinese... I donn't agree with stereotypes, but the human mind works like that, when he has something new in front of him he compares it with the data he has stored in teh brain, and Asian = Chinese for most people, blame it on Kunf Fu movies

To simply put it... caucasians are made to differentiate caucasians... I heard that even Asians find it hard to tell apart caucasians.
It's a matter of adapting to your environment.
BTW most Japanese or KR think you're American if you're white and you visit them... Is that racism? NO it isn't... it's just an educated guess, since most white ppl that visit KR or JP are American.
So stop crying about racism if you're JP and they ask if you're Chinese.

Why do all Asians look alike?
Might be cos of east asian features... I can tell you that a lot of caucasian people can't tell the difference between 2 korean actresses for example... You show them one, then the other and they think it's the same person.
I was kinda like that at teh start but I've seen so many Asian movies and dramas that I can tell apart every single actor, and my dad is amazed like "how did you do that?"
My mom is also starting to tell them apart since she watches more.

singaporean, malaysian, thailaders, filipinos, indonesian, most of them look alike
india and middle eastern people most of them look alike
and we all love to eat rice specially with a human fetus.. yummy haha
