  • @diegoradoblasio hey BATMAN IS AWESOME!

  • @wwejheaton aaaam, what are trying to say?

  • @diegoradoblasio batman is not a disney character

  • @wwejheaton amm friend i was ASKING YOU SOMETHING ELSE

  • @diegoradoblasio AAAM.MY BAD WHAT WERE YOU ASKING ME THAT YOU ASKED ME 3 WEEKS AGO?

  • @wwejheaton with pleasure, the question i gave to you weeks ago was that if YOU CAN IMAGINE THAT THEY CAN MAKE A DRAMA FILM BASED ON WALT DISNEY`S LIFE??

  • @diegoradoblasio i geuss that would be coolXD

  • before i get comments on the music credits, i know Charles Chaplin wrote" smile"

  • John Barry fan, and he should have had the oscar for music that year

    (Chaplin)

  • Thank you so much for this. Really good movie, big Chaplin fan but never seen it before.

  • most beautiful, touching movie

  • wow watching it aredy and im in a lil tears chaplin is a legend in his time he was a funny guy in our times he still is funny so fuck off all u ppl who say he sucks

  • Charlie Chaplin was a true artist!! and it takes a true artist to play a true artists life, and Robert Downey jr fit the bill!!

  • John Barry should have had best score oscar for this

  • a movie about a treu man, who show that ever thing is posible......thx for this movie

  • This movie is amazing <3 I loooove it! ;w;

  • Robert Downey Jr. NOT winning the Best Actor Oscar for this? Yet another example of why the Academy Awards should NOT be taken seriously.

  • Gosh, this last scene never fails to reduce me to fucking tears, Chaplin lives on as a timeless classic!

  • I love this version of Smile! 1:29

  • Such a beautiful film, I've watched soo many times already and it just gets better and better.. Love RDJ and Moira Kelly.. She played the role of Hetty Kelly AND Oona?? I find that a little strange...

  • I NEVER cry in Movies... The only time I have ever, was Toy Story 3...

But this made me shed at least ONE tear... :(

  • This film always make me cry. I think I've watched it over 20 times!

  • Before watching this movie, I never really knew anything about Chas's films. I've seen bits of them, but never took the time to actually watch them. But I'm glad I've taken the time to finally see an actor that deserves my full attention. So now I'm working on my collection of all his films, and trying to know as much as possible about this great artist. I've even bought his book and hopefully I'll be visiting his grave. RIP

  • i cried.

  • Last year I watched this movie little over 53 times, and I still watch it today!

  • can anyone tell me what is the name of the theme song that playing here in the beginning of the video?

  • Was that actually Robert Downey Jr. portraying Chaplin in the final scene from 'The Circus' at the end of the film? Or was that actually Chaplin. Chaplin's original 1928 performance is elsewhere here on YouTube and the version in 'Chaplin' (1992) is uncannily similar.

  • @00s00m

it was the real chaplin from "the circus" from 1928 alot of the clips showing the chaplin movies in this one are the real chaplin and not RDJ

  • @00s00m every piece of film you see in this movie is the original Charlie Chaplin footage. the only footage that is not him is the scene with his speech in "The Great Dictator"

  • They have the 'real' Oscar acceptance video on here of Chaplin--it's amazing! I also have to say I understand why Robt. Downey Jr., is so f***** up. When you have that much talent and get that much acclaim at that young an age--especially when your parents shared drugs with you--it hits you very hard. Just to have that much talent in one person is extremely rare. And the few that have had it can rarely escape the 'burden' of it.

  • This is probably the most beautiful and best film ever made! Thank you for uploading it!

And I just love Robert Downey Jr. in this film!

  • @DutchHermione14 You're welcome, i'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • THANK you for upload this! I'm a huge Fan from Charlie and i love this film (i see it the second time in the original language). Wonderful! Beautiful! I Love Charlie Chaplin and RDJ was perfect in this role... Great film! Thank you!

  • Thank you, I really enjoyed this.

  • I'm crying

  • Thanks is all I can say

  • Charles Spencer Chaplin wil lalways be a Heroe (I dont like his daughter though)..

  • beautiful ending :')

  • whats the name of the piece @5:02, his music I believe was as important to his art as anything in conveying the mood he wanted to create, Chaplin was a true genius!

  • That was really depressing.

  • @GandFonYT the ending or the whole movie? i thought the ending was quite cheerful because he knew that america was sorry and they loved him

  • i challenge you false hatter, there is but one hatter and tis I

  • @beasst94 Alright monsieur, as you wish! I'm the only false hatter around! You, as many others, are the right one, but only one is false, and that is I. So... I won!

  • Bloody Marvellous. Thanks MadHatter.

  • I had to cry at the scene of the kid... again.

  • stinking americans watched our enlish guy make the movies what they are today then barred him from there country through only what i beleive to be jealousy! then take the credit, typical scanks ...

  • a wonderful movie endeed.i just hope that rdj wont look like that when he gets old =P

  • his was great

all we need now is a biopic film about Stan and Ollie and Michael Jackson

5 stars for this movie *****

  • John Barry should this Oscar.

  • I enjoyed that very much - thank you. Robert Downey Jr really played a magnficent role here and the script really projected the real Chaplin. Bravo !

  • Thank you for posting this, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Beautiful film, Robert Downy Jr is so undervalued as an actor, even though he does such an amazing job in these films. Charlie Chaplin was a hero :) <3 thanks so much for the post

  • @brapbrap109 yeah i totally didn't know he was in this until i wikipedia'd him.

This is definitely his best film.

  • i really touched this clip.........because he really loves that scene ........with jackie coogan.............charlie i love you

  • What a great movie. Will definitely be watching this one over again soon: thank you so much for posting the film, TheMadHatterAmI.

  • @darlyn0053 You're welcome my friend, i'm really glad you also like it ;)

  • @BollocksPictures Hulu has it on their site, if you can get past the annoying 20 commercials.

  • 8:34 I thought Chaplin was recorded in Dolby Stereo SR.

I haven't seen this since VHS rental back around early 1993 as it was released 18th December 1992.

The John Barry score at the start said John Barry, its nicely scored and mixed by Shawn Murphy.

  • Love it

  • who directed this movie?..i wish we could have another re issue of this movie now in days of internert

  • What's the name of the song that starts at

    7:15

    ???

  • Can someone, please, tell me the name of the piece of music they play at the very first end of the movie before the credits?

    I will appreciate it

  • @normayestela

It's a remake of "Smile" He made it for his movie "Modern Times" With this info you'll be able to find it.

  • @TheMadHatterAmI

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I really appreciate it. I love this piece of music. I want to surprise my sister with it. :) :) :) !!!

  • @normayestela

Hehe, You're very welcome my friend =) I hope she'll get surprised ;)

  • Wonderful movie about the Wonderful man. Chaplin's tramp is the embodiement of human existence. Whatever may come one has to move on taking difficulties in his stride taking the path of humanity. Life is as simple as this... nothing more!

  • Such an movie to help me from Hunting n thirst for chaplins life.Indeed i lived for 3 years in Vevey. If i ever gona miss switzerland, it would be also for Sir.Chaplin.Im so moved watching this movie..Greatest movie i have ever seen with so love and involvement.RIP dear sir.

  • @beskyfernandez

The movie have the same effect on you as it had on me i guess :) it's really wonderful, Chaplin could make you laugh and cry at the same time, that's what's make him so speciel. But if you haven't red the book yet i can only recommend it, it's really wonderful and there's alot of things in it that haven't been mentioned in the film at all, a good day to you my friend!

  • @TheMadHatterAmI Should read Chaplin's "My Autobiography", Really great book.

  • @GriggsC123 Indeed it is, wonderful book, just finished it a month ago, his life was a true adventure.

  • @TheMadHatterAmI I just read it a few months ago. It was excellent. First edition too, blue, tattered binding.

  • Does anyone know the last short in the montage with the walking off into the background.

  • @art3743

That is "The Circus" which is in my oppinion the very best of all his movies ( all his movies is among the best of the entire world production ofc.) But the Circus is unfortunetly a bit overseen because of all the bad thing that happent to Chaplin and his production while they were filming it, he wouldn't mention it in his autobiography or anything which i think is a shame because it's simpely a pearl in film history.

  • I read that Joan Barry was still alive when this movie was released and didn't pass on until 1996

  • Great movie! thanks so much for uploading it.

  • @wownouser

Glad you like it, and thanks :)

  • Very good chaplin movie starring Robert Downey Jr. I've seen about 6 times

  • Dam i love this scene! the orchestra at the end tops it off.

  • haha look at what they said about hoover! what an asshole! RIP charlie

  • I think he should of gotten that Oscar way before!!!! Its sooo sad that it was given to him 20 years later!! But Im happy he finally got it, its good for him

  • I am sooooo glad he won this oscar!! stupid americans, its not fait for him to have gone into exile just becuase they thought he was a communist!!!!! That is sooo unfaor for him!!!! But still, he is the best director of our time and he should of gotten that way before, He is a truly genius, im so sad for what happened to him, but so happy he finally got it!!

  • Even if RDJ didn't win an Oscar for this, he damn well earned it anyhow. I respect him more for this role than anything else he's done since.

And hey, at least the real Chaplin got an Honorary Oscar---that was the very least the Academy could for such a legendary gentleman as he.

  • Fantastic score from John Barry, excellent film too.

  • Chaplin...great actor.makes me want to live in these times...for only one day.

  • Maybe it feels like RDJ has been "robbed" of the Oscar (I thought the same when I saw Naomi Watts's performance in "21 grams", which is just incredibly brillant) - but then I thought: Who gives a fuck about the Academy Awards anyway? In the end it's just commercial shit - nuff said *g*

  • Well said. In our heart Robert got the oscar in '92 ;) And i dont really either gives a shit about who got an oscar and why, it's up to each man to judge for himself, we're all different when it matters to taste in movies and such.

  • This soundtrack is second only to The Big Blue's

  • wait... at 0:28

is that Downey or actually Charlie Chaplin footage?

  • That is Chaplin himself, each of the silent B/W clips is Chas. :)

  • the music at the beginning is actually from "Unknown Chaplin"

  • The music of the beginning of the movie if that's what you mean is a score made for "Chaplin" the movie you know, if you mean this part, it's a score Chaplin made for his movie "The Kid" in the 60th, but yes, it's used in the opening scene in "Unknown Chaplin" aswell. And it suits perfectly.

  • what's the song?

  • It's named "Smile" and it's by Charles Chaplin himself, but this version is made for the movie.

  • magnífica película

  • Charlie had a big heart. It showed in his films. Was always a joy to see his movies as a kid. Made the tough times forgotten from watching him.

His movies are magical. Will always miss yah Charlie. You brought laughter to our house.

  • Thank you for uploading this!

I have been looking for this movie everywhere.

    Thank you again!

  • You're welcome, i'm glad you found what you seek.

  • i feel really weird now. I want to write an essay about how I feel. I first saw Charlie Chaplin when I was about 4 years old. I can remember asking "who's that? why's it in black and white?" and to think 11 years on I know exactly who it is.

oh why didn't you marry him Hetty, things would have been so much easier. I would've!

    xxx :c)

  • the song is called smile i love dis movie and chaplin

  • You can watch this movie on Hulu. Great Movie

  • i think i just cried... fantastic movie... no words can describe it... amazing performance from robert downey jr.... just loved it...

  • Thankyou so much for uploading this film :) Its now the third time Ive watched it

  • You're welcome :) Hehe, yea it cant be seen too often ;)

  • can somebody tell me the name of the song so i can download it please

  • smile

  • When the credits start the song is 'Smile'.

At 5:02 is 'Chaplin (Main Theme)/Smile'

and at 7:10 is called 'The Roll Dance'.

  • beautiful music

  • thank you for putting these videos up, this was great to watch =)

  • beautiful... thanks for this ^_^

  • Excellent film - tremendous performance by Robert Downey Jnr and a truly lovely ending and a lovely version of Smile and so great a film to give bio details at the end - Just Brilliant

  • Beautiful film.

  • I can't believe Pacino won best actor for Scent of a Woman over Downey Jr. in this film. That's straight up robbery he was brilliant in this.

  • Pacino was robbed many times before, so finally he is getting his "Makeup" award.

  • Are you then implying Pacino was not brilliant? He was and most certainly deserved that oscar more than anyone else, after, like it was mentioned, being robbed so many times before. There's been greater injustices in the Academy Awards.

  • Well it's my opinion that hoo-haw man was not a brilliant character and that RDJ's portrayal of Chaplin, a real and well known person, was more difficult and also more riveting. Obviously there have been greater robberis and Pacino is a talented actor too.

  • Are you then implying Pacino was not brilliant?

    ====

Pacino is brillant but wasn't in this dreadful 'Scent of a Woman ' remake....Vittorio Gassman was great in the original brillant movie.

I'm embarrassed for pacino that he won for this performance, there were so many others performances in his career where he deserved it but not there.

  • i wouldn't ask for better end for such movie if i was him and my life is screened with such music i'd cry my eyes till bleed

  • I love this version of smie so beautiful and cinematic. Captures the essence of the film. RDJ is brilliant in the role.

  • このシーン、見るたびに泣けてきます。

  • the music in this is phenomenal

  • I adore this movie.

  • this will always be the best biopic ever made and one of the greatest movies ever made RDJ is awesome

  • Can someone tell me what the title (and group) is of the music that starts at the end titles at 7:11? Thanks!

  • now that was a great movie. thanks a million for putting it up.

  • @termpaper sad movie

  • How come RDJ didnt get tha oscar for the role. I have to say I didnt think Chaplin was that good and he made so many movies and directed them. I am imprest. Thanks for the movie!!

  • I'm hoping to be a famous movie director one day and I will use Charlie Chaplin as an inspiration for some of my films. I may even do a remake of one of his films. Long live The Little Tramp!!!

  • I loved it. He should have won the oscar !!!

  • Thank you for posting. This film is a masterpiece. RDJ is really incredible on this one.

  • The ending was perfect.

  • Thank you again sooo much for that!

this is really a great movie and RDJ was soooo good in it! he was just perfect!

BTW strange dates of death lol christmas eve and charlies brother on his bday hm?

anyway that was a blast and very interessting to see! ;-)

  • brilliant movie :) it's absolutely fantastic! thanks for posting the whole thing

  • beautiful music piece of Smile

  • I really enjoyed this film, so thank you for posting. I went to a screening of city lights last week with the liverpool philamonic orchestra playing the music, it was brilliant.

  • Who played this song? Whats the artists name!! i love the song!! its "Smile" by?

  • It's made especielly for the movie "Chaplin".

If you got a sharp look you might be able to find the composers name in the scrolling text ;)

  • Comment removed

  • what is the small boys name? int he back of the truck?

  • Jackie Coogie or something like that : ) you'll find him on google

  • In the movie his name is unknown, "The Kid" and his real name is Jackie Coogan, the uncle Fester from the old version of "The Adams Family" you know.

  • @TheMadHatterAmI Yes, Jackie Coogan was the real 'Kid,' was Uncle Fester on The Addams Family TV show, believe it or not. But one of the most amazing things is if you go to the video on here of the real Chaplin accepting the Lifetime Achievment Oscar in 1972, you can see Jackie Coogan (who must have been in his 50s by then) applauding and what a look of joy and emotion on his face.

  • <3 love that version of the song

  • Thanks for posting, good 2 c it again!

  • Simply a phenomenal film. Thanks for posting it.

  • MASTER!

  • Do you know what? :) That song, "Smile", is going to be with me all my life.

  • wow. this was my first time watching this movie. RDJ did such a great job, I loved it! Thank you so much TheMadHatterAmI. This was a wonderful movie.

  • I'm glad you liked it ;) No problem at all Guitargeak99.

  • Wow It's quite long time since I last saw that movie, Thank you TheMadHatterAmI!!!

Chaplin was Genious! AndRobet Downey Jr made one hell of a job in this, in my opinion masterpiece:) Thank you one more time

  • That he surely did :) You are very welcome Neciaakazabcia88.

  • He's a master in my eyes. But the sad thing is that I didn't live when he lived, and that's tearing me apart! There is NO ONE who are as good as that he were in todays moving pictures! NO ONE!

  • This man was a colossal genius they only come along once in a blue moon. His films made you laugh and cry and wrote beautiful music.Yet in every film he made there was a reason within.Still number 1 in my eyes.

  • The ending is perfect, sums up all the great masterpieces of Charles Spencer Chaplin. I really wish that he could live today, or that I lived when he was on his best. Love the ending song, I know it's "Smile" from Modern Times, but that version of it was very beautiful<3

  • the part where they show "the kid" and all the old films, always gets me goin :**(

    thanks for sharing!!! :)

  • Thank you very much :D

  • Thanks for posting this Madhat I saw a good doco on Chaplain by a fellow called Mark Steel, on the Mark Steel Lectures, very inspiring, it's on the Tube somewhere
