Idea -you could position the paper in a way that the sticky is facing you, roll it in a downwards motion until you only see the sticky sticking out of the machine, lick it and roll it some more. That's how it's done with machines. Fuck, someone already said all this. Damn.

The sticky sticks to the notebook paper pretty damn fast, it IS possible, however I found removing to lick ensured a good roll.

Sticky faces away from you because that motion to do with your fingers is easier to do, and pulls the paper in smoother.

You can also have the sticky part facing towards you and roll the pens towards you, then right before the sticky goes in you lick it and since its facing inwards, it won't stick to the notebook paper.

It touches the paper when it is pulled between the 2 pens, in a few practice runs it got stuck a bit and pulled awkwardly, making a crease in the j. I found licking after just as easy and ensured a good smooth roll.
