soundcard & DAC = audio interface..... Same thing mate. I would advise against onboard soundcards because they're RCA connections. For an audiophile like me, I don't really like that.
@th0m4s21 You need either an audio interface or a mixer. DO NOT try to find a way to connect them straight to your computer. I've heard many people damaging the speakers that way.
@th0m4s21 You can easily add these to your computer by buying a headphone jack plug to phono leads. There is no way you would damage the speakers by connecting the speakers to the computer as we are only dealing with line level signals. The only way you could damage these speakers is by feeding too much input to the speakers but this is very unlikely as the amplifiers in the speaker would go into clipping before any damage could occur. You could also use the computer volume.
@th0m4s21 The headphone jack plug side would go into the line out (where you normally connect your speakers) at the back of your sound card and the phono plus would go into the back of the active speaker inputs.
@mrbeanslefthandman So do these monitorsa have built-in amplifiers? I'm really on low budget and these would cost me a 300 euros a pair. Can't afford to buy an amplifier, should I just buy a cheaper pair of monitors and an amplifier or just the monitors? Oh and I'd use them to produce hip hop

You need a midi controller like m-audio, other wise like the post above you'll damage your computer speakers.
