Only 400 Siberian (the big ones) Tigers left. Seeing a tiger is like traveling back in time to see carnivorous dinosaurs. They are the ultimate, a level of above bears, lions, and wolves. The only thing that comes close is the Jaguar in my opinion. Check out a film on here called "tiger: spy in the jungle". It's absolutely amazing, really change how you feel about cats.

@TheArmWarrior I lived on the outskirts of coastal Siberia with my uncle for a year. Trust me these animals are lucky to get over 11 ft in length, how ever, They readily grow to 4-4.5 ft tall at the shoulder, and attain weights of between 320-360kg's.
@TheArmWarrior Dont worry, Russian patrols constantly monitor the mountain ranges in which the Tigers thrives. Logging is a problem how ever as Tigers generally have to cross roads which logging trucks use, to get to a suitable hunting ground. These animals are huge and have no natural predators.

It is unfortunate, but if an lion were to fight face on with a tiger, a tiger would easily over power the lion, it's size is alot bigger and it's alot bulkier. As compared to a lion, it's muscles are a lot stronger. A tiger would overpower a lion easily.
@samlosl Again, I do realize tigers are longer and muscular(also faster) however they weren't programmed to be viscous adversaries with other giant carnivores/predators,however its the lions instinct which command them to fight other predators and giant cats for the sake of pride and competition. and don't forget the lion is much more braver too, The lion isn't completely outsized, it is still taller by the shoulders and has its mane(serving both a physical and psychological barrier)

THeir prey are actually much bigger than the lions'. Tigers hunt water buffalo, Caribou, Asian elephant, elk, wild boar, and Asiatic black bears. Tigers fight alone and have much better fighting skills. All documented reports of the two animals fighting have always seen the tiger as the winner. You need to do more research

They can haul something 2 or 3 times their own weight up a vertical tree, and can take down prey more than twice there size and weight. I dont think there would be much between a Bengal tiger and a Lion, however, I firmly believe a Lion would be no match for a Siberian Tiger. There are quotes from Sir David Attenborough along with most animal experts who would back the Tiger if the two met IN THE WILD! a fight between a tiger and a lion can go either way. does not matter who is stronger(tiger) or more skilled fighter.(Lion). as we all know the strongest dont always win every fight, and the more skilled fighter don't win every fight. all it takes is one mistake from either cat, and its pretty much game over. but they are both beautiful animals so lets enjoy their beauty.
I may be wrong but one reason why tigers may be avoiding lion logically I can think is that tigers (though larger and stronger) being solitary hunters cannot risk injury. However if a lion is injured he may be still able to depend on lionesses in his pack for food so he can take chances. It may be this instinct that may be genetically engineered in both these nature's lethal power machines.

Tiger's scratch marks on trees have been found at heights of 2.7m or so from ground level in Kanha forest. I also read that a 4.2m long tiger skin has been confiscated, also belonged to a tiger of Kanha. Even if the skin was stretched, there's no doubt that it came from a giant.

as far as who was the champ overall, there are accounts of victorious tigers over lions as well as vice versa. There are accounts of a great maned african lion that many romans bet on with the belief that it was invincible as it SUPPOSEDLY had numerous victorious over tigers and lions and thus became a folk lore. One must read LATIN to research these old scattered accounts. However no accounts exist of what became of this invincible cat, could o been killed by a tiger for all we know, lol

Do not be blinded by it, or be gullible. 2nd, captive born Tigers & Lions outnumber wild types for a fact. 3rd, not a single private big cat owner has ever fought two wild caught male specimens around their primes in history yet. All they did was get wild lions and wild tigers etc etc lol and fight them together to bet on the outcome, its our NATURE. youtube people are interested in who would win just as the romans were. Records left over from that era dont exist as news releases of the fights with detailed blow by blow accounts. However many references historically still exist. Some findings? Females often would not fight to the death and would seperate from each other

well i mean what good can big bones and muscle do if your just a wandering nomadic coward? Yes tigers do have the size card, but it's the lions who actually hunt prey several times their size and weight. In any given circumstance lions would instinctively and fiercely give the tiger a beating but a tiger would naturally just would try everything to avoid the fight altogether

@EagleMarine2012 Fact is, lions don't do the hunting, the lioness does. Lions protects the pack from being attacked by another. It is the lioness that feeds both the children and the lions.
It is unfortunate, but if an lion were to fight face on with a tiger, a tiger would easily over power the lion, it's size is alot bigger and it's alot bulkier. As compared to a lion, it's muscles are a lot stronger. A tiger would overpower a lion easily.
That is by fact, not biased.

@samlosl Again, I do realize tigers are longer and muscular(also faster) however they weren't programmed to be viscous adversaries with other giant carnivores/predators,however its the lions instinct which command them to fight other predators and giant cats for the sake of pride and competition. and don't forget the lion is much more braver too, The lion isn't completely outsized, it is still taller by the shoulders and has its mane(serving both a physical and psychological barrier)

@samlosl the same concept can be applied to deinotherium and Paraceratherium.The 2 extinct gigantic mammals of all time(deino was 3x larger then it's elephant relative) and para(was the size of a medium sized-sauropod) the para being the largest mammal was relatively gentle and harmless wheres the deino being smaller was programmed to be extremely aggressive despite being a herbivore

THeir prey are actually much bigger than the lions'. Tigers hunt water buffalo, Caribou, Asian elephant, elk, wild boar, and Asiatic black bears. Tigers fight alone and have much better fighting skills. All documented reports of the two animals fighting have always seen the tiger as the winner. You need to do more research

@EagleMarine2012 tigers do hunt elephants and rhinos, usualy the old or weak and most tiger vs lion videos i have seen, tigers win, they are stronger, more agile, can stand up longer to swipe, can jump better, have stronger jaws and more fighting experience, lions only fight for a pride maybe 3 times in a lifetime whereas tigers fight to kill for mating and territory many times a year, all a lion has going for it is its mane which will offer some protection around the neck and maybe intimidation

Now, it may look i'm exagertating but remember dholes packs a 100 years ago numbered in 40s, even 100s were reported. To handle such a large pack tigers had to be ferocious,agressive and cunning as it has to survive on its own.But the real problems over the last six decades is that there is not enough land left for them, remember unlike in Africa tigers in Indian forest need pristine jungle enviroment without the intervention of humans. Even the presence of camera crew affects their behaviour.

Not every tiger develops the ability but the succesful male tiger can pick up an adult male goat in its mouth and jump over a fence.Some tigers in the past have specialised big game hunting strategies.

Everybody Please remember this.The tiger is not yet extinct but it is already has its gene pool diminished.Untill the first part of last century there were huge agressive tigers that were capable of killing thier prey like goat, deer by beating with the two paws on thier back, these aggressive tigers were hunted for pleasure by the british and obediently followed by the Indians.Now all that remains are the descendants of weak and fearful tigers that managed to stay away from human notice.

It just means there aren't as many as there once were. @munkierunner There are about 12000 tigers in America alone & some may be fat & huge but that is never an equivalent to huge powerful male tiger occurring naturally in wild.Agressive Male tiger requires plenty of space and young juvenile males born to them have to cover long distances to establish a territory of theirown.Unfortunately in today's limited sanctuaries that means conflict with people and their end.Put simply one apex predator, we, have ousted another apex predator, the tiger.

@munkierunner diminished gene pool refers to the genetic VARIABILITY. But you're right, for the most part, that has to do with the number of specimens left....was just clarifying it. Also, humans' have really put a stake in evolution in terms of many animals. The fittest tigers (at this time) may be the ones who just got lucky, and not necessarily the fittest in terms of adapting. Normally, without an anomaly like us, you would be right....but we've severely fucked that up!

Cats are so impressive. But isnt the Leapord the strongest cat for its size? They can haul something 2 or 3 times their own weight up a vertical tree, and can take down prey more than twice there size and weight. They hunt alone like the tiger, and to look at a Leapord they definately look like they have excessive muscle for their size.

Also male Lions have been observed hunting full grown giraffes (which can weigh as much as 4400 lbs.) and bring them down with little to no help. Male Lions are just as powerful as Tigers. In fact, its scientifically proven that Lions have more muscle mass than Tigers; which is 56% for the average Lion.

I may be wrong but one reason why tigers may be avoiding lion logically I can think is that tigers (though larger and stronger) being solitary hunters cannot risk injury. However if a lion is injured he may be still able to depend on lionesses in his pack for food so he can take chances. It may be this instinct that may be genetically engineered in both these nature's lethal power machines.
