This is essentially a DB9 that goes half a second faster to 60 looks far more agressive is filled with carbon fibre brakes icredibly and handle excuisitly but main thing it's been on 007 and although it shouldn't matter it just does... its bonds car.

DB9 base price here in Queensland is $276K, tack another $65K on for a DBS.. that says ouch... mind you the local dealer here said he sold 6 (!!!) DB9's and DBS last June alone..

It's mind boggling to me how these guys (car reviewers in general) get in these $100,000+ cars, and can find any negativity about them whatsoever. I'm not a fan of Aston Martin's, but if i had the opportunity to drive ANY V12 with 500+ HP, i couldn't imagine having anything other than an ear to ear grin on my face the entire time.

I think the DBS look fantastic! i just think that especially with the V12 Vantage in the range that as a halo car they should have giving it 610hp and gone after the 599. in the same way that the vanquish went after the 575. there just isnt enough power...hell what doesnt have 500hp these days.

It is the best looking car in production to me. The Vantage V12 would be right behind it.
If you own that car... I can't imagine anyone complain about owning anything else. The outside of it is just a visual masterpiece. For every bit that makes it better than a DB9, I'd take it.
As mentioned by Jeremy Clarkson in TG don´t look at it as being a DBS. Consider it a DB9-S where every bit is a little bit better. As for the price tag, it depends on how much you are willing to pay 50k more. Looks amazing imo, every day in it wolud give me a huge smile.

the DBS is just beautiful, no doubt about it. The problem is if you live in a place like Germany it's only the looks. On the autobahn you'll get passed by remapped M5s, e55s or e63s, M6s etc. It makes growls as if it is going to leave everything standing, but as of about 270 it only crawls up to a little over 300 and that's it. I don't understand Dr. Betz, he should know better. As it happens I don't have the cash for such a car, but if I did I'd have it modified to reach at least 330.
Let me just say if you have the money to purchase this machine, then you'll most likely have the money to upgrade or remap this thing to pass all the other euro "cars" on the bahn.

There were reports of this car reaching much higher speeds than the 305 factory limit w/o limiter (you can remap it as well) with no consequences, while the German super saloons and the M6 tend to disintegrate at these speeds, THERE IS A REASON THEY ARE LIMITED to 250- these cars have MUCH, MUCH more inertia and drag coeffs, much higher cent. of Gravity than the DBS... The materials in an M6 are also less withstanding... It is much more than looks Im tired of saying this
genatsvalle91: Thanks for your comments and views. I have trouble agreeing with you though. I have a BMW 540i, remapped+limiter removed. I lived in Germany most of my life and due to my occuption drove over 50.000km per year mainly on the autobahns. It now has 498000 on the clock. I have driven this car as fast as I could every day, on average peaking at 260. It still burns no oil or shows any signs of fatigue. I just can't imagine the same stamina from the implanted ford made engine in the DBS.
Sure, thanks too, but once again this issue of ford engine comes up.... yes, this engine debuted in 1998 and was dervied from the Ford Duratec 3.0 V6 ( exactly 2 of them) tuned by Cosworth, and put into the Project Vantage Concept car and then a year later in to the DB7 Vantage V 12...
But first of all this engine has been around for 11 years now .. suppose thats something. Then before finally apearing in the DBS you see today it was reworked by Prodrive, Cosworth and Aston Martin Racing
These three companies are BIG BIG names in the Racing buisiness... Race spec modifications of the same AVT V12 6.0 litre that is in the DBS right now have won the GT1 Lemans endurance 2 times in a row, the SP 10 (On the first shot) , and multiple other competitions public and Private. Now the DBS spec AVT is actually extremely well suited for the type of high speed driving you mentioned you do in your 540... Let me explain...
This engine (Unlike most AMG forced induction) and BMW M (High reving) engines is Naturally aspirated with a low redline of 7000 RPM. HOWEVER it is extremely torquey, and at just 1500 RPM delivers 85% of the 570 Nm torque(485Nm)!!! The M6 by comparison develops only 520, for which you need to rev the engine to a whopping 6100 RPM, while 450 of these is available only at 3500 RPM. For these reasons the DBS has very little engine and clutch wear compared to other GTs.
genatsvalle91: I am grateful for your extended explanations. Indeed (only the current not the previous) M5 and M6 engines are deliberately high revving as a derivative of F1 high revving and V10. One would think that would kill them sooner I suppose. But if you look at tests of the DBS the peformance just isn't what it ought to be. There may be low end torque but at that price the competition just always seems to beat it. It takes too long to get from 260 to a little over 300. But so beautiful.
Well trident3b, I think it should be compared to stock competition, and in fact the only competitors I see for this car in it's range are The Mercedes SLS AMG which has similar performance (with the Mercedes accelerating harder at first due to the DCT and the Aston taking it later (Longer Gears), and the 612 Scaglietti, which has similar performance to the new DB9, but costs as much as a DBS.

They didn't list all the cars used but the winner was the Maserati Gran Turismo S, which's engine is made by Ferrari. DB9 base price here in Queensland is $276K, tack another $65K on for a DBS.. that says ouch... mind you the local dealer here said he sold 6 (!!!) DB9's and DBS last June alone..

It's mind boggling to me how these guys (car reviewers in general) get in these $100,000+ cars, and can find any negativity about them whatsoever. I'm not a fan of Aston Martin's, but if i had the opportunity to drive ANY V12 with 500+ HP, i couldn't imagine having anything other than an ear to ear grin on my face the entire time.

I think the DBS look fantastic! i just think that especially with the V12 Vantage in the range that as a halo car they should have giving it 610hp and gone after the 599. in the same way that the vanquish went after the 575. there just isnt enough power...hell what doesnt have 500hp these days.

It is the best looking car in production to me. The Vantage V12 would be right behind it.
If you own that car... I can't imagine anyone complain about owning anything else. The outside of it is just a visual masterpiece. For every bit that makes it better than a DB9, I'd take it.

As mentioned by Jeremy Clarkson in TG don´t look at it as being a DBS. Consider it a DB9-S where every bit is a little bit better. As for the price tag, it depends on how much you are willing to pay 50k more. Looks amazing imo, every day in it wolud give me a huge smile.

WHAT!?! The 458 is the most beautiful ferrari ever made and you know it. Screw McLaren. The MP4-12C is based purely off of the F430, just a lot uglier, more complicated, and expensive. And rolls royces are too expensive, ugly, and heavy, the same story with bentley, lotus makes toasters, and plus all the brands you listed always in the repair shop. the DBS is just beautiful, no doubt about it. The problem is if you live in a place like Germany it's only the looks. On the autobahn you'll get passed by remapped M5s, e55s or e63s, M6s etc. It makes growls as if it is going to leave everything standing, but as of about 270 it only crawls up to a little over 300 and that's it. I don't understand Dr. Betz, he should know better. As it happens I don't have the cash for such a car, but if I did I'd have it modified to reach at least 330.

I do not think so... There were reports of this car reaching much higher speeds than the 305 factory limit w/o limiter (you can remap it as well) with no consequences, while the German super saloons and the M6 tend to disintegrate at these speeds, THERE IS A REASON THEY ARE LIMITED to 250- these cars have MUCH, MUCH more inertia and drag coeffs, much higher cent. of Gravity than the DBS... The materials in an M6 are also less withstanding... It is much more than looks Im tired of saying this

I lived in Germany most of my life and due to my occuption drove over 50.000km per year mainly on the autobahns. It now has 498000 on the clock. I have driven this car as fast as I could every day, on average peaking at 260. It still burns no oil or shows any signs of fatigue. I just can't imagine the same stamina from the implanted ford made engine in the DBS.

Sure, thanks too, but once again this issue of ford engine comes up.... yes, this engine debuted in 1998 and was dervied from the Ford Duratec 3.0 V6 ( exactly 2 of them) tuned by Cosworth, and put into the Project Vantage Concept car and then a year later in to the DB7 Vantage V 12...
But first of all this engine has been around for 11 years now .. suppose thats something. Then before finally apearing in the DBS you see today it was reworked by Prodrive, Cosworth and Aston Martin Racing

These three companies are BIG BIG names in the Racing buisiness... Race spec modifications of the same AVT V12 6.0 litre that is in the DBS right now have won the GT1 Lemans endurance 2 times in a row, the SP 10 (On the first shot) , and multiple other competitions public and Private. Now the DBS spec AVT is actually extremely well suited for the type of high speed driving you mentioned you do in your 540... Let me explain...

This engine (Unlike most AMG forced induction) and BMW M (High reving) engines is Naturally aspirated with a low redline of 7000 RPM. HOWEVER it is extremely torquey, and at just 1500 RPM delivers 85% of the 570 Nm torque(485Nm)!!! The M6 by comparison develops only 520, for which you need to rev the engine to a whopping 6100 RPM, while 450 of these is available only at 3500 RPM. For these reasons the DBS has very little engine and clutch wear compared to other GTs.

genatsvalle91: I am grateful for your extended explanations. Indeed (only the current not the previous) M5 and M6 engines are deliberately high revving as a derivative of F1 high revving and V10. One would think that would kill them sooner I suppose. But if you look at tests of the DBS the peformance just isn't what it ought to be. There may be low end torque but at that price the competition just always seems to beat it. It takes too long to get from 260 to a little over 300. But so beautiful.

Well trident3b, I think it should be compared to stock competition, and in fact the only competitors I see for this car in it's range are The Mercedes SLS AMG which has similar performance (with the Mercedes accelerating harder at first due to the DCT and the Aston taking it later (Longer Gears), and the 612 Scaglietti, which has similar performance to the new DB9, but costs as much as a DBS.
