Wahow, great! very beautiful sound! (I'm sorry, I'm not english so I don't speak it very well!) But just one thing : don't move so much when you're playing! ;) But it's very beautiful, I try to play Syrinx as good as ou but I have to work! ;)

I've watched this vides many times and have Enjoyed it a lot. My name is Samuel and I play flute as well. I'm listening to this piece online because I'm using it as a tryout for a flute choir. I'm doing it on alto though. Where did you learn to play like that at such a young age??
@140802prince Hi Samuel, Thanks!!! I started the flute when I was 3 so I've been playing a really long time. I have an awesome teacher and the music just kind of pours out if that makes sense.
I'm a freshman and I'm playing this for Solo Ensemble, and my name is also Emma :) haha, You are amazing- this really is great, it gave me a lot of inspiration! I've watched a lot of your videos, your tone is absolutely gorgeous! Keep playing! You'll be famous one day if you keep it up. :)
Oh my goodness you are so advanced, at such a young age. YOu play better than alot of flute majors at north texas. I love your and musicality and your breath control is enormous!!! YOUr intonation is also great too!!
Oh my God Emma... I have been trying to learn this piece for a while now, and I was searching for inspiration on the web, listening to James Galloway and other flutists but THIS is what I decided to use. WOW.
Wow I really love your version of this song. I've been listening to others(mostly men) play it and it always sounds so strange and sad. Yours sounds really pretty, almost like a fairy is dancing around. I'd love to try to learn Syrinx the way you played it. Amazing job! I hope you continue to love playing flute as you grow up. C:
@ShipposKitty Hi, Thanks!!! I think that's one of the best things about music - you can play it exactly the way you think it should be. Even if everyone doesn't always like it. I hope you make your Syrinx sing exactly the way you think it should be!!! --Emma
Mature and unique interpretation of this famous flute piece. Although it's in the standard flute repertoire, its rare to hear someone actually take ownership of it like this. And at only 8 years old! incredible! Who is the teacher? Dad?
Vibrato? Flawless! I love how you dance with the music :) I'm not a flutist (I'm a trumpet player) but listening to you makes me want to bust my butt even more at trumpet!
I can't believe someone actually had the nerve to dislike this video. She is clearly amazing...and you dislikers....you are just jealous. I mean, I am jealous....but I wouldn't never have the gall to dislike this video. Seriously people.

@classicalgalNYC Hi, Thanks for watching!!! I'm a girl who really loves to play the flute and people can call that whatever they want. But I really really love the flute!!!
I found out cause of your comments, that you started at 3 years. How did you hold your flute? ;)
And... I saw that you can give tips so I want to ask you: I have some problems with the low tones like c1 above all when I have to play them fast, how do you do that with the air?
@jingleyellow Hi, C1 is a hard note. I kind of do the opposite of what most people do so it might only work for me but I use alot of air on low notes but keep my lips really flat. I know everyone says slow air on low notes but that never works for me. Let me know how it goes. --Emma
@GeoRockMin Well whoever tells you to put slow air through low notes is stupid, cause slow air makes the notes go flat. Fast, cold air keeps the intonation up, so good instinct kiddo.
Wow. ummm.. wow. Excellent. I am sure the critiques from flute players mean more. I am just a YT wanderer but I am very impressed by the talent I see hear. Keep bringing your gift to the world young lady.
I'm playing this song for my solo and ensemble this year... I'm a senior in high school, and I've been playing oboe since 5th grade and flute only since 7th, I practice everyday, and I still am nowhere near as good as you! beautiful tone and vibrato, I absolutely loved your expression as well. keep it up!
Your vibrato is amazing! I have been playing the flute for 9 years and I don't think that my vibrato is as god as yours. Would you give me any tips to improve my vibrato?
Emma, I suppose you are in some sense a servant to your gift, but you must never be a servant to those who would exploit your gift. Always be true to yourself.
hi emma your so great i love this piece im learning a bach peice at the moment the advanced excersises pieces there very hard have you tryed them,is your flute open holes?
Absolutely beguiling! ♥ Dear Emma, you are like a wonderful dream. Thank you very, very much for sharing your gift...music to our ears indeed! Hugs to you!
Wow! You are such an amazing player! You played emotionally and beautifully. :D I'm 14 and I just started learning this piece. I find it pretty difficult. How do you practice? Do you have any tips?
@12shiori Hi, Thanks for watching!!! It's great you're learning Syrinx!!! For me the most important thing is to tell a story. Pan and Syrinx is a great story so it can be told alot of different ways, it just has to all make sense together. I spent alot of time thinking about each phrase and what I wanted to say. Let me know how it goes, and have fun!!!
You are a very talented flute player. I really love how you've got such a matured sound so early!
However: When playing this piece, it is free. I have heard several interpretations of it. Take it slower. Soak in the beauty of it. James Galway likes to rush through everything he plays. This is why he is no longer my favorite flute player. You have so much potential. Soak in your music--I can tell you're going to go far. :)
Seriously, you sound like a professional. Freaking 8... now 9, I guess... years old. Crap. I'm ten years older than you and you're so much better than me. :( This was a major blow to my ego. But you still rock and you should keep playing because you're freaking AMAZING!!
So beautiful! As a flute major that played this last semester, I have to say you play it better! Much much better! haha, keep practicing; you're amazing. :)
How beautiful! Your vibrato, tone, and musicianship are all leaps beyond in sophistication from time of the Chaminade performance in 2008 - which was already wonderful for your age. What a treat to hear this! The flute world has come into its own - with mini prodigies to amaze us, just as violin and piano fields have enjoyed for years. Brava, Em!
Hi, The story is about the god Pan (the goat guy) and the nymph Syrinx that he loves and bugs alot. She thinks he's a pest and hides in reed grass to get away from him, and he turns her into a flute!!!
But you can make up your own story too. It just cant sound random. It has to all go together.
You are absolutely committed to this music, which makes me happy. I can tell you hear your own vibrato - you don't just switch it on and let it run. You have good interpretive taste, when means you know how to listen! Keep on making music out of that piece of plumbing.
Hi Emma, thanks for the comment =]. I really love your tone, you have a really rich lower range. Just wondering, do you do your vibrato in triplets or semi-quavers and what sort of speed on a metronome?
When I was really little I heard a flute and loved the sound right away. And it's pretty and shiny which is nice too!!! I just knew it was for me. I hope your daughter plays the flute too!!! --Emma
Wow that was amazing, I cant believe how you can memorize something like that. I could play a song 1000 times literally and I wouldnt be able to memorize it. I can only memorize short easy pieces. I play Pachelbell canon all the time and Ive tried very very hard to memorize it but no progress at all, still need the sheet music
Emma, You are truly a beautiful flute player and a beautiful girl inside and out! The way you uplift your readers, respond so kindly to their comments (even the not so nice ones!), is as amazing as your flute playing!! It just adds to the beauty of your music. I think because nothing ugly comes out of your mouth, nothing ugly can come out of your flute!! Keep playing!! Keep your heart so kind and pure!! What a true blessing you are!! May God continue to bless your music and your life
Thanks! You're really nice!!! I'm really lucky to have my family and friends and I try to remember to be thankful. And I'm lucky I get to play the most beautiful music in the world on my magical flute!!! I'm happy you like flute music too!!!
Emma, we do love the flute...Theresa plays the flute, she is 11. I love to listen to her play!! It is magical...really, really, magical especially when I can't even make a sound come through the flute at all!!! To see the beauty that others can make on such an instrument is amazing!! Mary plays the violin and am just as amazed at that!! Music is wonderful!!! Words can never communicate to the depth that music can!! I am so happy you love the flute...we enjoy listening!!
NIce but it should be slower. I know your young and this is damn good, nearly Rampal quality for someone of your age, but this should be anywhere from largo to Andante no ma troppo.
I love your vibrato though. And Sound is sound big and warm!!!
Hi!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!! I started when I was 3 with a Suzuki teacher, but I have a different teacher now. I've had really great teachers!!!!
Wow what a talented little girl. You put alot of emotion into a very comples piece for so young a person! You have incredible potential! Your vibrato is also very good. Keep it up! I can see you being the next James Galway XD
How do you, like, do VIBRATO . Im prerfect, except for lack of vibrato and I REALLY wanna do it. I am an EXPERT on Violin and can do beautiful vibrato on it.
Can you explain if Im not wasting your time? Thanks a LOT. =]
Hi Emilia, Try a metronome with m=60. Play a long note on your flute and say Ha Ha on the 1/8th note. Then speed up the metronome. I hope this helps!!! Let me know if it works!!! --Emma :) :)
. . . . .i feel dissapointed in myself xD ive been playing for three years now and like . . .shes better then me... BUT YOURR AWAZING KEEP PLAYING ITS BEAUTIFUL~!
Emma, you are an amazing musician for such a young age. This is one of my favorite solos of all time. There are still some things that you can work on that will come with maturing... but other than that you played this very well. My advice: make the last two lines much slower and more "sad". Especially the scale before the last note... you have the ability to make that so much more.
Wahow, great! very beautiful sound! (I'm sorry, I'm not english so I don't speak it very well!) But just one thing : don't move so much when you're playing! ;) But it's very beautiful, I try to play Syrinx as good as ou but I have to work! ;)

What's the story about?
Anyway, your mood and everthing was so beautiful!!!
dottiedal281 2 years ago
Hi, The story is about the god Pan (the goat guy) and the nymph Syrinx that he loves and bugs alot. She thinks he's a pest and hides in reed grass to get away from him, and he turns her into a flute!!!
But you can make up your own story too. It just cant sound random. It has to all go together.
Have fun!!!

I personally think this piece is complicated because there are lots of flats... I learned this piece though I am still learning it!!!!!!!!
My only hope is to play like you someday...
Was this wonderful piece complicated to play?
dottiedal281 2 years ago
Hi, I think what makes this complicated is the colors and mood and flow. And it tells a story. But it's really fun to play!!!

You are absolutely committed to this music, which makes me happy. I can tell you hear your own vibrato - you don't just switch it on and let it run. You have good interpretive taste, when means you know how to listen! Keep on making music out of that piece of plumbing.
ssg04c 2 years ago
Hi Emma, thanks for the comment =]. I really love your tone, you have a really rich lower range. Just wondering, do you do your vibrato in triplets or semi-quavers and what sort of speed on a metronome?
sunshinemoose 2 years ago
Hi, Very good question!!! I don't do measured vibrato. I just let it go free and work on how it sounds.

Love your interpretation of this. And your vibrato is just wonderful !

Hello Emma, I have little daughter, whom I would like to introduce to music. how did you know flute was for you?
evarela12 2 years ago
When I was really little I heard a flute and loved the sound right away. And it's pretty and shiny which is nice too!!! I just knew it was for me. I hope your daughter plays the flute too!!! --Emma
GeoRockMin 2 years ago
Wow that was amazing, I cant believe how you can memorize something like that. I could play a song 1000 times literally and I wouldnt be able to memorize it. I can only memorize short easy pieces. I play Pachelbell canon all the time and Ive tried very very hard to memorize it but no progress at all, still need the sheet music
Windplayer93 2 years ago
I spend alot of time whistling and humming my pieces. It works for me. Maybe it will work for you too!

Hi Emilia, Try a metronome with m=60. Play a long note on your flute and say Ha Ha on the 1/8th note. Then speed up the metronome. I hope this helps!!! Let me know if it works!!! --Emma :) :)
