  • My first line of thought is why is it there?

Second would try to approach it and with think gloves. Pick it up. It if lets you. Take it to a vet, because they shouldn't let you.

  • @WildBuck007 - The bird showed up at a newly-constructed shopping mall atop an old landfill. It stayed for several weeks feeding on voles/mice that it caught in nearby fields. Unfortunately it was found dead by one of our local biologists a bit later (starvation). A sad end to a magnificent creature. Like most birds found well out of their range it didn't have much of a chance from the beginning...

  • beautiful :D this is my favorite breed of owl

  • nah the Malay Eagle Owl is the cutest!

  • These are so beautiful. I used to live in Québec City and sometimes they came in, in french an owl is hibou, but this bird has its own name, the harfang des neiges. It used to be on some of our banknotes

  • im am adictied to birds i nearly died when i saw this irresistably cute vid best wishes to the owl ........... i wonder why theres an owl right there?

  • Seedeater, et. al.,

2007 brought an irruption (invasion) of northern owls to lower portions of Michigan. This bird wandered a bit too far and was found in a shopping mall construction area. It remained for a week or two then disappeared. Sadly it was found dead several weeks later. It had been ill. Those of us who saw it will never forget its beauty and majesty!

  • @jourdaj man that is sad. do they migrate south because of lack of food or cold temps?

  • i wonder if this snow owl and its flock likes joel schumakers rendition of "Phantom of the Opera"?

    lol

    just kidding

beautiful bird, and there is a commonality in guidance

  • He is just beautiful! What a wonderful bird.

  • ive i was him,

i would fly to al franken's house and go right into his den,

pull out the old mid 80's something dvd of him on saturday night live, with the satellite dish attached to his back, the skit where he is broadcasting and gets struck by lightning,

start peckin' at it, until he puts it in the dvd and watches it,

then i would fly-over to his framed minnesota tribune "Al Franken Contested Winner by 312 to 225 votes"

  • and start pecking on that,

    until he notices,

then i would fly over to his computer,

start pecking in my you tube account,

and peck at the screen until he gets the point

    :P

  • What a beautiful owl !

  • Either that owl is tired or has sensitive eyes (but don't they all). XD

  • interesting cover,

i would assume, reflective light source, but a metal deep red?

  • snowy owls are the best bird in the world

  • AAaaa it´s so cute, the owl moves like a robot

  • it looks sick.. otherwise it would be more cautious about where it sits .. like not on the ground for one thing..

  • *sigh* absolutly beautiful.

And what do people mean that it died?

This whole breed of owls or just this one owl?

  • looks high as shit lost so figured he would stand next to a fire hydrant to chill till he came down from his fix..

  • Its a shame this beautiful owl died that season.

  • How would you know???

  • O RLY?

  • YA RLY! haha owls kick ass

  • Seconed that.

  • zzzzzzzzzzz lol

snowy owls are built rl good for the arctis circle(like the feathers on the feet) and have closed eyes so snow wont get in so they always look tired

  • they are soooo cute!!1 I love them! :)

  • (^ω^)♪

  • cute he's probably a baby

  • its a little puff ball of feathers. that owl is cute

  • sad thing is, if you look at the other videos about this owl at the mall, they found him dead, most likely from starvation.

  • well thats utterly depressing. thanks i was in a good mood too

  • so cute i remember the detorit news writing an article on this type of owl he kind of reminds me of my shih tzu tiger

  • Wow, that was in Wayne County? Right smack in the downtown precincts? Impressive. I just wonder where it lives. There aren't a whole of trees there. Thanks for sharing :) 5/5

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing! Its natural for these birds to chill out ground level. They even nest on the ground. And they are also nomadic and visit the northern US pretty regularly. There are even some at Plum Island in Newburyport, MA (about 45 minutes from Boston)

  • cold, eh. buddy?

  • Poor little owl completely out of his normal element, normal habitat, resting on the ground in the open. I'd say U have a creature not feeling well at all, maybe even injured by a passing car. He's so close to the road.

  • Fluffy snoozer.

  • Well Harry Potter would be happy to know, where his owl went. So beautiful.

  • You thought an owl was a fictional animal?

    What the fuck.

  • no, i was saying this type of pure white owls

  • wow been waiting a long time to see one in person. nice

  • wow that is only 25 mins from my house! maybe i'll see 1 sometime this winter!

  • How amazing! The owl is actually sleeping on the ground?! How cute...

  • Lovely...

  • こっちみんなw

  • Cute cute owl, sleeping so contently...

  • He's so cute. :o

  • Oh my gawd xDD so frigin cute *pets it*

  • It'd rip your fingers off or your eye out if you even go near it but yes...it's kinda cute :) :> :} M-Crow and M-Owl

  • Lyke you can touch meh xP Go fck it

  • congrats. great composition.

  • Congratulations, it´s beautiful bird with increible nice plumage

  • It makes you smile knowing some ae adapting to human life - but also upsets you when you realize that so many years ago they didn't have to worry about human hazards, global warming, and all the many things that cause so many animals to have their lives threatened.

  • what a beautiful bird. I love that it's just sitting there on the ground snoozing as traffic goes by.

  • Aaaww cute sleepy owl, so sweet :)

  • aww he's so cute and sleepy! :D

  • so cute =3

  • Snowies are lazy and are about the only species of owl that can roost or nest on the ground. When barn owls for example land their wings don't tuck nicely into their backs in order that they can comfortably sit there (like passerines e.g. :) crows) BUT snowies live in areas where tree cover is sporadic at best and thus have evolved fleshy paws and shorter wings to cope with having to nest on the side of glaciers.

  • beautiful bird,is it unusual for them to roost on the ground?

  • nice plumage

  • that's pretty cool! it's crazy to think that we've got owls around here.

  • hahhahha how cuuuuuuuuuuuuuute XD

  • If it's one thing that I've never seen "live and close up", it's a snowy owl. I would give anything to actually see one....maybe some day.....this one is great!

  • thanks so cute

  • Very beautiful bird. Too bad there's no sound.

  • Thanks! Actually there is sound, but it's me gabbing to a fellow birder about nothing in particular - I only realized it after playing back the videos....

  • I also love the way he turns his head towards you near the end . . . so sleepy.

  • So quiet, so serene, hes meditating. Look at the busy traffic behind him, yet he is calmly doing his Owl thing.

  • Luckily for all of us the traffic is about 100 yds away in the background. The fencing around the construction site also helps to deflect the owl up and over traffic when he flies across the road to roost on the roofs of the mall stores. Thanks for looking!
