  • i think this looks 10 times better than ubuntu. ubuntu looks grayish but this kubuntu has tons of color. I am downloading it right now!

  • I just installed this DE and it looks cool, this is the first time when kde gives me what i want... We should say thanks to the developers

  • where did u get the wallpapers and the glob n' virus things i just got KDE on my machine, running with my linux mint

  • Great job on the vid. It showed off all of KDE's eye candy, flowed nicely, and had great quality. It even looked great in fullscreen.

  • Actually WIndows 7 look more like KDE :)) They copied it from Linux not the other way.

  • I just got this distro yesterday, and LOVE IT! KDE is the bomb.

  • Marvelous demonstration of KDE's power. I salute you. :)

  • they should start selling linux so they can pay software developers to make as much as windows

    Sell for cheap ** :).

  • Dell actually sells netbooks with Ubuntu installed. They don't do much to promote them, though, and the hardware's on the lower end of the scale.

I DO wish more manufacturers would try selling PCs with K/Ubnutu installed, and with better hardware; yet still at a low price. They could easily chop off $50 to $100+ just by using Linux instead of Windows.

  • kick ass song mate,if it's not that big of a bother,can u send it 2 me?

  • Looking good!

In the future this will probably be my next desktop manager. Because I've tested GNOME 3, and if it will become that impracticable as it looks now then I'm abandoning ship! Or maybe I'll stick with GNOME 2.x for a while, I'm not sure... At least KDE 4.x looks great!

  • KDE rocks!

P.S what's the name of the song?

  • Hey There Delilah, by Plain White T's

  • i am trying kubuntu after a long time with ubuntu and i have to say i love it. But there s one thing that i really have is the kwin composite affects are really slow and not highly configurable

  • Great video about Kubuntu ;)

    Thanks

  • KDE as an environment is very very very nice. Not as fundamentalist as MacOS default and not as clunky and unsophisticated as Windows 7 default.

It's a gorgeous all-round interface system that is simple, natural and has a soul. I say it has soul because it's made by a community of people who care and are interested in this, not a corporation who wants sales to benefit only a few.

  • Looks much cooler than Win7!

  • but better

  • @Lommy1337 and it costs $0.00

  • i'm new to kubuntu and linux all together and was wondering what screen recorder there is that you where using lol?

  • He already said it in some comments below. ;)

    gtk-recordmydesktop!

  • GNU/LINUX » FTW !!! i love kde and LINUX :)

  • hahahaha, this KDE looks great!!! I'll try it, i use gnome but this KDE is awesome, I will try it a while...

  • What did you use to edit your video? O.o meaning to put the song in and stuff.

  • gtk-recordmydesktop for the recording and I used YouTube's internal tools for editing it and adding music (via audioswap)

    :)

  • Cool thanks! :D

  • I see xkcd :D

  • As much as I love kde I just hate the blue. I don't like blue!

Also everytime I use it it tends to just bug alot, is it still buggy in 4.3?

  • Well, im using kubuntu Karmic with kde 4.3.1 and so far the only thing that bugs out on me, is 64bit firefox with the 64bit flash plugin.

I sometimes get a popup telling me that kwin crashed and do i want to send a bug report, which is odd because kwin never crashed, or if it did, it crashed and restarted without me noticing.

I'll put the kwin one down to the alpha/beta status of karmic

  • What's the song? It's very nice

  • hey there delilah

  • que hermoso el video =) aunque prefiero mandriva con kde ^^

un abrazo desde Argentina, Buenos Aires

  • No, it's not better, it's DIFFERENT...

Both are good and both are the efford of many people, efford you can't even imagine my friend, so you don't have the right to do what you did. It depends on the user and their preference to choose either one as their most suitable but because you prefer GNOME you can't shoot away KDE. After all that's the fun part, we have CHOICES! Enjoy

  • ok, maybe I wrote bullshit, but what I wanted to say is: I like Gnome better ;) take it easy!

  • go go kubuntu and LINUX !!

  • Excellent video! can i ask what are you system specs? did you have any problems updating from 4.2? not sure if i will wait till Kubuntu 9.10 or not.

  • 2GB DDR2 Ram, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 3GHz

And as far as the 4.2 upgrade, I didn't experience any problems at all, at least not any ones worth remembering

  • amazin. I used gnome for 2 years but I use KDE 4 days ago, I love it :) , it easier than gnome for me. I wait kubuntu 9.10. i my new laptop with nvidia because ATI sucks. I had 2 laptops with ATI, everything slow when I install its driver.

  • Actually some X11 extensions suck (GLX and DRI), not ATI (that much :) ). nVidia works perfectly because they have written their own, closed implementations of these modules. I think that the whole Linux graphics driver architecture is being re-written by Tungsten graphics. And Intel are re-writing their drivers. It's a bit messy at the moment. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • No, that's correct FinnCoder.

  • Awesome, and good song!

  • Nice effects. But how efficient is this when using X remotely, like with the NX protocol.

  • You *know* that's not our fault. Oh btw, you do know Photoshop uses the same toolkit (qt4) to create their interface as KDE does, don't you?

So porting it should be pretty easy.

  • Hmm....that's surprising. If Photoshop really uses Qt4 then there are no reasons not to port it natively to Linux. I've heard that Wine runs Photoshop just fine, but it's not the same thing. One of the most important things in Qt4 is portability. So why don't they do that? I would immediately buy a Linux Photoshop.

  • In a designer's pcs you're going to find'em. There are a lot of designers that uses gnu/linux

So, for me photoshop is not for productivity...I need other things like networks management, programming, etc.

  • i love linux and kde 4.3 ^_^ linux power and free !!!!

  • Yes but the exception is ATI video cards, the support there is still shaky, Nvidia is much more suited

  • That's not the job of KDE. Look at Mesa, DRM (not thát DRM) and the kernel.

  • it's just becoming more and more mad to think this is open source, free software. If open source doesn't prove to be the way of the future, then we can't say it didn't deserve to!!

  • this is a really cool vid - nice to see a slightly more calming vid of linux hehe

    KDE is amazing :)

  • Looks great, nice song. I'll add you to my subscriptions and watch.

  • Well it's quite smooth to be honest.

Blame recordmydesktop for the vid which although is of good quality and pretty sharp, it records max at 50 FPS while the actual working speed is 60 FPS.

This means 10 Frames are lost per second, no big difference but enough to make it look not as smooth as in reality :)

  • so cool! if it only would run smoother! Then it could definately replace gnome for me...

  • ahh ive been waiting for kde 4.3 to become official. im so excited!
