If I'm just looking for a small camera that has good quality, and I want something unique and more fun.. is this a good camera to buy? Or is it more of a challenge and should I stick to something more simple?
I purchased this camera and I hate it. Picture quality is not any better than my 2mp camera it replaced. No matter what I do 70% of the images are blurry. Auto mode it pointless. Battery life is horrible and there is no support for standard batteries. The camera is very slow even with preview set to 1 second. Camera appears fragile. Video quality or Totally unacceptable. While I did not buy it for video My $70 HD camera from walmart way better at 720p what does that tell you? Don't recommend.
Hello baby, thank for the video, but you are so beautifull man sorry for this comment I am clinical psicologist, what is the reason for you eat your nails, look at that, what happen with your hand and nails, God bless you, take care
is this also known as IXUS 210? i really love the way this looks and that touch screen is lovely, but like you said....the image quality is decent. Which is okay but if your gonna be spending that much, you want some good pics and zoom feature while your recording vids.
great review :D .. its helped me decide that TX7 is the one i want.
I believe the reason why cameras aren't able to do optical zoom in video mode is because the sound the lens makes when moving in or out. Since the lense and mic are attatched to the camera the vibration would be picked up by the mic and it would be very loud. I could be wrong, but that's my theory with why digital cameras don't allow optical zoom. Can anyone think of a better reason?
>>>> Samsung and Casio colors seems not as vibrant as Canon. Maybe cause I'm used to C for so long? I guess my question is what's your recommendation? Have you seen AF not in a fixed mode when recording? Are new cameras not offering this feature and I'm stuck with it except Panny (I believe). Uuugh frustrating...
I have been buying Powershots since 2004 starting with A70. Now my latest one is SD790IS - it's a tank. However, I want to step up to HD. I've looked at reviews of Panny ZS1thu7, actually have in my hands for testing Casio EX-H10 and Samsung TL320. Going to BestBuy pickup for testing range SD1400 and Sony HX5. I still can't find a worthwhile upgrade! I wand HD with continuous AF, not fixed. Don't care about zooming while recording that much. >>>>>>
This is a tough one, since we haven't reviewed the TX7 yet. The TX7 has an Exmor R sensor, meaning low light should be better than the SD3500's. It's also got 1920x1080 60i (interlaced) AVCHD video, so the video quality edge is probably going to Sony as well. You'll probably like using the Canon better, but the Sony will probably give you a better performance. In this case, we'd get to a store in order to try them both out.
We haven't tested the TL240 yet, but that's coming up very soon. The TL240 has a larger 7x optical zoom, but other than that, the SD3500 IS will most likely have the edge in terms of image quality and overall user interface.
The SX210 IS has a larger 14x optical zoom and more manual controls. The SD3500 IS has the touch screen. So, figure out which features are more important and go from there. Also, keep in mind that you can optically zoom while shooting in video mode with the SX210 IS and you can't do that with the SD3500 IS.
@infosyncvideos thanks! i was about to ask the same question. i find touchscreen kind of annoying so its isn't that big of deal to me i think i will go w/the sx210 i have the powershot sx20 and it seems like the sx210 is more of the same but compact. and i love my sx20 :) but its too big to carry around sometimes. thanks!
hey good review..was thinkinf of buying this camera but then I saw the SX210IS..what do you think of that camera?apparently it has a better zooming capabilities but this SD3500 is touchscreen...so its really appealing..
Hey Amy, as with any touch screen, smudging is inherent, just like an iPhone. I think the centerpiece at this feast is the PowerShot SD3500 IS's touch screen performance, which is the best in the biz at the moment. We've reviewed some daunting touch-screen cameras, but the SD3500 IS gets the official infoSync approval.
What would you recommend Canon PowerShot SX230 HS, Canon PowerShot SD3500 IS or PowerShot SD4500 IS????

Not the best. Sony's TX7 is a much better touch screen camera. Also has a better movie mode 1080i/60fps vs Canon's standard 720p/30fps.

@BoxxyFan
We're hoping to get the TX7 in soon, but the SD3500's touch screen beat out Nikon's and Panasonic's for sure.

does it have autofocus? ex: if i wanted to shoot a flower in HD, can it auto focus? how does it compare to the sony cybershot dsc-w290?
polkadotpink03 1 year ago
@polkadotpink03
Yes, all of the Canon point-and-shoots have Auto Focus in video mode. And between the SD3500 IS and DSC-W290, we'd go for the SD3500 IS.

All Canons have great Auto Focus, yes.

Fully touchscreen cameras are somewhat disconcerting to me. Did you find that fingerprints/oil obstructed the screen's visibility?
