@rangerman96 i've got the strings set to "inverted" in the options menu so that the layout is the same as traditional guitar tab. you can choose to have them set either way.
When this games available in the UK hoping to use this to get into playing guitar, I did try years ago but I can't engage unless I have something nerdy in front of me like this! :)
@THEBUZZARDMAN1 are you playing the single note arrangement or the combo arrangement? this is the combo arrangement... if that's not it, then maybe you haven't levelled it up high enough yet? hmmm
Very nice! Solo was damn good man :D I just got this game for Christmas, can't wait to get this far in the game. Btw what are the boxes around the notes? just curious
@tbreez712 thanks Tbreez, I started playing 15 years ago'ish. not that actually applied myself to learning for all those years...it certainly doesn't take 15 years to play this song :)
DUDE AWesome!! shit i cant wait till i get that go with Rocksmith/ guitar. How long did it take u to do that, and how much guitar did u know before the game? Thanks!
@venomchris Thanks Chris! Hmm. Well it didn't take long to learn the rhythm track of the song- it's actually pretty easy. The lead track; i learned the basic outline of the lead section fairly quickly and then just did some familiar pentatonic licks in place of the actual notes. You could play something very similar, or even the real lead, with i'd say 2 to 3 years of practice. Very possibly a lot less if you're very dedicated. I've been playing casually for about 15 years.thanks!
@Jasaxos naw, the battery for my EMG's lasts a LOOOONG time. i haven't changed it in a couple years :P just don't leave the cable plugged into the guitar or it will draw the battery constantly. always unplug when you're done playing.
1. no, i didn't know the song before playing the game. I learned all the rhtyhm guitar parts from the game, which was pretty straightforward. But, I have yet to learn the solo note for note..in this video i'm playing licks and runs based on the real solo, but not note for note. i'll put some time into that soon..hopefully i can learn it 100%. however, I won't be learning the solo in the game as the "riff repeater" is currently too limiting.
@jaycito2000 ..continued..hopefully they patch riff repeater and let us see 100% notes and slow the pace down to learn complicated passages. as it is right now, guitar pro or just regular tab is way more efficient for learning solos.
2. yes, i can play it from memory/without the game- it's a very easy rhythm track once you memorize the riffs, and the solo is basically pentatonic stuff, so pretty easy to make up something that sounds good!
One of the things I love about Rocksmith (especially vs RB/GH) it allows you to embellish on the song without docking you points. Glad you did it in this video, awesome job man. :)
After looking at your covers, I've decided to not buy Rocksmith since it's just a $70 version of learning songs by tabs >.>, Btw nice guitar and playing, What kind of EMG is that?
@Dkvill23 EMG 85 in the neck and 81 in the bridge. pretty standard emg setup there. as for buying or not buying rocksmith- yeah, it's just learning songs by tab. For straight-up learning songs, Guitar pro would be a better investment. For learning songs and providing entertainment and a convenient way to rock out in your living room- Rocksmith is a pretty good investment. I also like the motivation of playing a song as close to 100% perfect as I can. I can be pretty lazy without that. lol :)
@acuity67 you can see the horizontal graphical representation of the guitar neck across the bottom of the screen. fret one is to the left, fret 20+ is off to the right. You'll see ghostly blue numbers and lines floating down towards you indicating frets 3 / 5 / 7 / 9 / 12 / 15 / 17 / 19 that correspond to the dots or inlays on your guitar. The numbers help you determine at what fret the notes are supposed to be played. for instance: if you see a red note coming down the "3" track (continued..)
if you see a red note coming down the #3 "tracK', that means play the "red" string (which is hte 6th string, or the bass string) at the 3rd fret. if you see a yellow note on the #5 "track", you play the 5th string (yellow string) at the fifth fret. If you see both a red note on the 3rd track and a yellow note on the 5th track coming at you in a shaded box, it means play both notes together as a chord, which would be a G power chord. does that help? it takes time to get used to the colours.
@cikenbrand i've been working on 'are you gonna go my way', which in some ways has a trickier solo than free bird. i'm hoping i can get 'go my way' nailed this week for a video, time permitting. then yeah, probably on to free bird, which i've got at 96k after a couple runs through. i need to 100% unlock the last little bit of the solo..then it's a matter of tidying it up a bit and trying to play through it all without cramping up. :P
@plateofshrimp i find it's pretty particular when it comes to chords; you really need to play exactly the strings it specifies in the chord box, no more and no less. for example, if you play the D in slither with all the strings instead of the specified bottom three (D5), it won't register. thats been my experience anyways. its pretty damn good at knowing what you're playing (imo)!
wait...I've only been playing guitar for about a month and I don't have this game yet but I'm pretty sure that those strings are in left hand configuration, yet it appears you are playing right handed. Please enlighten me someone?
@Mentallycool good eye. the game allows you to view strings two different ways. it calls the default layout "standard", and puts the bass/6th string/Red string at the top. Most people who are used to playing tablatures prefer the "inverted" setting which puts the red string/bass/6th string at the bottom. that's how i have it set.
@Mentallycool He's playing right-handed... But has selected the option to flip the Low E to the bottom (like in TAB). Essentially inverting the guitar. Still right-handed, but for those familiar with TAB it may be easier. You can select this from the Options Menu when you start the game.
@Mentallycool followup: the idea with tablature and 'inverted' view is that when you look down at your guitar (or if you tilt it up towards you) you see the bass string at the bottom. :)
@SAYHITOPETER definitely get it if you're interested in playing guitar and having a system (xbox/ps3, pc soon) that supports it. well worth the $80. this song is fairly advanced as far as the solo goes. the verse/chorus you could teach yourself with a bit of dedication. it's not as hard as it looks. that said, the game starts you off on way easier stuff than this! there are a lot of total beginners playing and loving this game. go for it!
It's just that, seeing the points going up rather slowly during the solo part, I thought that the game wasn't even expecting you to play it, that you just did it anyway.
The game looks pretty good. What's your setup/rig? Doesn't look you're experiencing any lag, which seems to be a problem with a few people.
@Qirexian yeah, the points would go up more if i had more notes unlocked. that's part of the "dynamic difficulty" of rocksmith..you have to successfully play the specified notes in order to unlock more notes, which will give you more points. does that make sense? Lag is pretty easy to fix:
video: PS3 > HDMI > TV
audio: PS3 > Composite (RCA cables) > Onkyo receiver set on "direct" mode, which disables signal processing. using dolby prologic or something would introduce processing and lag.
@JinjaBeard I'm wondering how one could actually do this on an xbox (which I own), since once you plug the HDMI cable you can't plug composite video and RCA audio.
Seems the only way would be a clever, yet not so gentle mod on the composite cable...
@Qirexian hmm... unfortunately I don't have any experience with the xbox, but i'd head on over to the ubisoft rocksmith forums...lots of xbox users there with no lag. i'm sure others have overcome this!
@decimadimencion thanks man! i've been, lets say "lazily" playing for 15 years. only a fraction of that time was actually spent learning new things. the rhythm i probably could have played at year 2 and a similar solo around year 3 or 4. it's just minor pentatonic, which is easy and fun to learn. thanks again for the comment~~

Hey JinjaBeard,
First of all great job with the guitar playing man, and thanks for posting the video. I have a couple of questions for you:
1. Did you know the song before you started playing it on Rocksmith, or did you learn it 100% on the game.
2. If you learned it using the game, can you play it without the game? I mean were you able to memorize it?
Thanks man,
Jay
