There was a lottery for the Ford dealers. The ones that got one immediately put them on Ebay and they're bringing over 100k. Some of the dealer owners kept them for themselves and won't title the car. They'll keep the MSO and sell the cars 20 years from now. A good investment.

Unless you know someone on the "inside" or are friends with Carroll Shelby (who got one as a gift for his 85th B-day this past Jan 11 from Ford, you could NOT have driven one as they haven't even been released to the dealers yet. I've got a 2008 GT500, and it's a breeze to drive....

Just thought I'd toss this little tidbit out there for all of the Mustang "fans" posting about this...There was NO Cobra in 00 and 02. There was an issue with horsepower in 99, so they fixed the issue for 2001, then they began work on the 03-04 Terminator Cobras, so 2002 didn't have a cobra either.

I agree with you on the fact that the Mustang is so much cheaper. Money wise, you could get a GT and strap a supercharger on it, Cold Air, Heads, Pistons, Rods, Stroker Crank, Gears, and still be less money than a Z06. I am talking about stock times though. An 07 Z06 runs 11's stock. The GT500 runs a 12.9 because of it's weight. If you dropped some lbs out of the GT500, and put some slicks on it you'd be possibly in the 10's. Money wise the GT500 is much better than the Z06.

Dude, the GT 500 has a live rear axle. The Z06 has an independent rear suspension w/ traverse leaf springs. There's no comparison, The Vette wins hands down. Watch the Top Gear videos where they review both cars.

There was a lottery for the Ford dealers. The ones that got one immediately put them on Ebay and they're bringing over 100k. Some of the dealer owners kept them for themselves and won't title the car. They'll keep the MSO and sell the cars 20 years from now. A good investment.

Vettes are faster, but they ride like a truck and the build quality is awful: Interior rattles and squeaks after 25,000 miles. I had a 2006 C6, traded it for a Bullitt, The Mustang is far more solid. My wife has a 2005 6 cylinder Mustang. Her car is still as rattle and noise free as the day we bought it... And it has twice the mileage the Vette did when I traded it in... And I don't feel like I've ridden a jackhammer to work after 60 miles on the freeway.

Unless you know someone on the "inside" or are friends with Carroll Shelby (who got one as a gift for his 85th B-day this past Jan 11 from Ford, you could NOT have driven one as they haven't even been released to the dealers yet. I've got a 2008 GT500, and it's a breeze to drive....

Just thought I'd toss this little tidbit out there for all of the Mustang "fans" posting about this...There was NO Cobra in 00 and 02. There was an issue with horsepower in 99, so they fixed the issue for 2001, then they began work on the 03-04 Terminator Cobras, so 2002 didn't have a cobra either.

I agree with you on the fact that the Mustang is so much cheaper. Money wise, you could get a GT and strap a supercharger on it, Cold Air, Heads, Pistons, Rods, Stroker Crank, Gears, and still be less money than a Z06. I am talking about stock times though. An 07 Z06 runs 11's stock. The GT500 runs a 12.9 because of it's weight. If you dropped some lbs out of the GT500, and put some slicks on it you'd be possibly in the 10's. Money wise the GT500 is much better than the Z06.

im a mustang fan but the z06 has 505 hp its lighter and it has better down force .the gt500kr has 540 horses even toght its supercharged but i agree whit u. new stangs are too heavy but i know for a fact that in the long run the KR can catch up whit the z06 .i wish the new mustnag were as light as the 04 cobra or gt , then the mustang would be the perfect match for the corvette

Dude, the GT 500 has a live rear axle. The Z06 has an independent rear suspension w/ traverse leaf springs. There's no comparison, The Vette wins hands down. Watch the Top Gear videos where they review both cars.

Going fast in a straight line....woohooo. Its got to have great handling, speed, good looks, e.t.c. I personally think all these history raping retro's are boring. It's styling we've seen and has tyhe aerodynamics of a brick. I'd take, if we're going by mustangs, the 00-04 Cobra's over these new ones any day. They're lighter, not 2 tons like the new ones, and look better. If I had to stay american in car choice I'd choose the Z06 or the SRT-10 over the Mustang any day.

So your happy paying as much as a Z06 but with only a 12 second quarter mile time? The Z06 has a better quarter time, can out handle the GT500 AND gets better GAS MILEAGE. The new ZR1, which is similair to the GT500KR, has a better stock quarter mile time AND can handle better.
I'd buy a 1998 Nissan 240SX, swap in an RB26DETT, add a brake kit, increase wheel diameter for better traction and add carbon fiber, all for under $27,000.

It's a shame that not only are the Shelby's overpriced due to the dealers but the Shelby name is being diluted as well, with the introduction of the Shelby GT which ironically enough was produced because the greedy dealers created such a gap between the GT500 and the GT.
