  • Lmfaoooo "Yeah yeah! Dats the shit!" God we love you Mike haha

  • Writing seems to easy to these guys, yet when we try to learn the songs we just break into tears!!!!!

  • Portnoy is so creative at making drum parts :)

  • Is that myung on keyboards at 2:48 ?

  • @Equipe3v Yes, usually playing the keyboards, but not as good as playing the bass

  • @Equipe3v No, those aren't keyboards....

  • What does Labrie do while the others write?

  • @MrMusicman456 Recording this Video.

  • @MrMusicman456 he plays basketball... lol :P

  • I really never liked their mind set on this album. It really seems they didnt put the same creative effort they did for past albums, and even mike says once they had enough material they called it quits..

Just seems like they weren't into it too much on this one, and honestly i think the music shows. Its not a bad CD, but by DT standards in my opinion is very subpar and not very interesting.

  • @dtrox84 You know what. Mike's got this opinion already covered - in 7:36.

    Go figure ;)

  • @dtrox84 wtf? this is my favorite DT record, i think its their best too

  • 6:20 petrucci with a les paul? :)

  • @tabotabojayar PRS I believe, Mzrk Tremonti signature

  • as i am ftw!

  • Holy shit! They wrote Train of Thought in 3 weeks?!

  • Why I never see James LaBrie, when they are composing???

  • @vaxkors95 LaBrie didn't take part in the writting process at all until the last recording session...

  • @vaxkors95 cause he's not really part of the musical writing process, once songs are done he works on the vocals

  • 3 weeks to write an album.... let's call that GENIUS!!!!!!!!!

  • well mike this proves that even if you write an album in your fucking sleep, its still gonna be a fucking masterpiece, this was by far the best DT album for me...

  • lol

    S.O.C.

    Stream Of Consciousness

    Suck Our Cocks

    Thx Mike

  • can't believe that mike is no longer part of dream theater.. i guess we will miss him in the next album.. specially watching this video.. when i see mike being part of the creative process in such a way.

  • Love Mike's impression of what Jordan does at 4:13

  • Favorite Album.

  • @XDrUmErBoY512X same

  • you can tell mike is really pleased at 4:18

  • 7:00 i can't stop laughing

  • ''goooooood stuuufffff'' =D

  • 1:05 I hope they weren't cheating :| It goes faster on the album.

  • @marcusfedgus they play it live -_-

  • @CrimsonDrift16 It's weird, because live music always goes a bit faster... Well, DT can break the rules :) They've earned the right to.

  • @marcusfedgus They are writing the song and thats a rather complex part, so slowing it down is just making it easier to assimilate for everyone XD

  • Isn't majestyc this, a great album in 3 weeks? Only DT does it! 7:22

  • 6:58

  • Comment removed

  • 6:37....holly shit...this is a LES PAUL....damn....les pauls and stream of consciousness just makes my day...

  • @karabinobi Dude I thinks it's a PRS though... Check out the way the headstock tapers.

  • What's the song their playing at around 1:18?

  • @ironz18 It's a middle part of "In The Name Of God"

  • I wish I could get paid to do this.

  • Man, I had really forgotten how much I love Train of Thought. Gonna have to listen to it more often.

  • "yeah yeah that's da shit!!!" hahaha

  • they finished writing the album on my 11th birthday. I feel very privileged.

  • Even them were surprised it took only three weeks... they could have done a double album lol

  • Can anybody see (in the video) of tell me what was JP's rack for train of thought? His tone on this one is by far my favourite of all the albums.

  • 3 weeks is long enuf. God made the earth in one.

  • LOL s.o.c which stands for suk our cawks

  • No way did they write that in 3 weeks. That's a whole song every 3 days!

  • Oh shit JP with a PRS. :P

  • 3:34 to 4:45 is epic.. you can see mike slowly getting more excited

  • the only cd by dream theater that i own, anyone can recomend any other albums, or the one that they are best known for , like u know, break through one ?

  • @ozzylaza Metropolis Part II: Scenes From a Memory is generally regarded as their best album. It's more prog and less metal than Train of Thought, but it still has a heavy element.

  • @michaelmarion16 i thought images and words was regarded as their best...nonetheless both are equally great

  • @ozzylaza i recomend buying either images and words or scenes from a memory. Along with train of thought, you can get a good view of what this band is about

  • @ozzylaza I'd highly recommend Awake. It has a brilliant blend of heavy, melodic, and proggy elements, and just this fantastic atmosphere to it.

  • Mike portnoy's funny joke moment 6:45... and then Jordan making some funny notes on the key's at 7:00. The best band and the most finnuiest band. I believe they're the best of friends.

  • Yawn

  • It's funny how at 2:30 Petrucci is trying to figure something out on guitar and it sounds kind of sloppy and then he just rips into that mad semi-quaver shit!! Awesome!!

  • i`m glad they took their time discussing about honor thy father, that song is so perfect for me

  • Is this the exclusive content you get when you buy the CD? I have the original CD but an error comes in when I try to play the CD on the computer (and see the 'exclusive' content).

  • 4:16 Petrucci are using Les Paul?

  • @tuliofidel i guess,,,, PRS singlecut

  • @fuckinpleasure Ernie Ball/Music Man

  • @sgklaeb oh, man.. check 6:22 out. hes obviously using not Musicman giutar.

  • @fuckinpleasure haha you're right :) Seems like a Les Paul

  • haha... petrucci @ 7:31

  • where did you get this film?

  • Read the song titles. You'd think it's a religious album - which ain't bad - but it turned out 2 b a classic. I feel blessed 2 have found a band like DT - since 1992 - that in many ways mirrors - my fave song - my life in many ways. Thanx dream theater. You're videos suck, 4 the most part, due 2 editing and 'cut off versions' But you get the musical 'oscars.' Note oscars in small letters. Movies suck!

  • odd to think all of that talent is in that one room right next to a street. Im surprised the building didnt explode with their sheer skill. I always imagined dream theater in a huge (not shattered) fortress practising - bad joke i know ;) its a shame those innocent civilians didnt know the epicness just a few floors up from them was there

  • Lol @ 6:58 SOC which stands for suck our cocks!

  • I have yet to hear this whole album.. but I feel I'd stray from the consensus and would love it quite a lot.

  • I think the best song is either Stream of Consciousness or in the name of God every song is wicked tho ; )

  • Yah, probably my favs too....some crazy keyboard/guitar shreds in both

  • 3 weeks? damn they must have been doing nothing but writing hahaha

  • The Drums of Thought may be the best set constructed.

  • 4:13 hahahaha mike:pululululululuulululu :DDDD

  • I love seeing them during the creative process.

  • Petrucci is using a PRS at 6:20?

  • i think so

  • @LRKProductionz looks like a PRS les paul rip off lol

  • Lmao at 4:19 "yeah yeah, that's the shit!"

  • 3:45 damn the hell that sounds good. XD

  • Hear that loser camera man: 'March 10th we started.' As if that loser had anything to do with it.

  • man, thats James LaBrie on Camera :P

  • Yeah that loser camerman. (the Singer). lol

  • Wow are you sure that's LaBrie? God, guess I'm the loser... Should have known no-one would have had the cheek to make a statement like that! Long live LaBrie and DT!!!

(Point is I was just making sure no fool was trying to undeservingly take credit for DT work. Really doesn't sound like JLB, though...)

  • hahaa

    dã

  • pisot mo tanan

  • why the sunglasses? :D

  • this album rocks, my personal favorite of dream theater. that C tuned opening riff of as i am is chilling and brutal. it truly has balls as many oher metal bands nowadays sound like pussies, these guys have genuine tasteful stuff.

  • @galacticguitarist yeah man... its my favorite album too... very groovy... its an ass kickin album right?

  • @galacticguitarist And that is why they put dream theater in ultimate guitar dot com for top 10 bands of all time.

  • @SpartanLaserCanon Sorry i Meant Dream Theater was featured on Ultimate Guitar dot com in The Top Ten Bands Of The Decade: Metal Continues To Rule Supreme. Go to Ultimate Guitar dot com and look up The Top Ten Bands Of The Decade: Metal Continues To Rule Supreme, search for in Columns

  • @galacticguitarist thank fuck, finally, sum1 who shares my view! its a sick album, evry song kicks ass! tbh, i rely didnt like octavarium at all, dnt mind systematic chaos but dnt rely like it, but i luv black clouds an silver linings, its awsum :D

  • its a good time to poop in the urinal

  • wow.. three weeks!!! that album is fucking great and it only took them three weeks!

    these guys are fucking beasts

  • john petrucci is the mature cheddar

  • epic expression :D

  • love this band, fucking immense in every imaginable way

  • 7:01 Jordan Rudess is my hero haha

  • seing them in 9 DAYS!!!!!!! in manchester!!!!!

  • LOL at 6:58

  • lol@ mike's ''thats the shit!'' at 4;19

  • Your upbeats are my downbeats! LOL!

  • my favourite album...hehehe

  • I love the album, but it sounds so much better live in my opinion.

  • This album was a letdown after SDOIT - but then most things would be - but its far from a bad album - songs are mostly terrific save parts of SOC and Endless Sacrifice which drag. But its a collection of awesome live songs - not a good studio album imo. Not enough overall album concept or variety.

  • But then again SDOIT was a letdown compared to Scenes From A Memory. But again both statements are just opinions :) anyway DT makes the best music i know of.

  • What? you have no taste for music.

  • not liking something wouldnt nessisarily mean i dont have taste. Likeing shit on the other hand....

  • Good insight you fucking 6 year old.

  • well imo its their best album. so who wins? prob me as i have the bigger cock :)

  • That's mature :D

Don't get me wrong I love this album - I just don't think its nearly the best they've done. But it was what was needed after SDOIT, a break from the crazy epic hugeness and just some good solid songs. Just doesn't make the best album I think.

  • Love the negative ratings for a comment loving this album but not as much as another one. Oh my god there are so many uninformed stupid divs in the world - you all keep me so amused with your sensless non-arguments and unformed opinions - especially dvsdez - what a way to win a debate about albums - cock size - really - youtube is such a funny place if you're amused by idiots showing thier idiocy in the most stupid and uninformed way possible. You people are so useless as humans it makes me lol

  • I also know where I stand.. Definitely not under your command, but until we meet again old friend.... Don't let me catch you in my part of the woods

  • If they were going that fast they really should have put more than 7 songs on it!

  • they didnt because the format of the disc coudlnt fit more dont doubt they didnt do more

    like in falling into infinity

raise the knife, cover my eyes, speak to me,dont look past me,where are you now

  • A standard disk holds 80 minutes of music. As Portnoy said, they were done as soon as they hit 68 minutes. They could have put one more song on it. And they did NOT write anymore music for the album. They did this in a matter of three weeks and once they had 7 songs they stopped.

  • Was JP playing a Les Paul at 6:20!?!

  • it's a PRS

  • yeah i think he is.

  • Lol no worries, the album sounds pretty done to me

  • I love this album!

  • and i love U for lovin' this album...hahahha no but this album is fucking magic :D.... Dream Theater is the best band in the world....and its just them who can make this kinds of videos....they are so "human" if u know what i mean....they have humour and stufff.....hehe Long Live Dream Theater !!!!!!! :D:D:D:D

  • damn straight, I met them once on the 08 tour and they were all extremely nice. The meet and great was after the show and you could tell they were tired as hell but they didn't show it. VERY cool dudes

  • its only four weeks left omg i will meet them very soon :D im so exalted (Extremly Happy)

    :D:D:D:D::D !!!

  • wow player *cof cof* xD

  • I like a stream of conciousness of this album, and think it's all together a great album. The album I don't really like is Falling into Infinity, but I've got all their albums and I still love their music, different or not from their first work.

  • ToT is amzing, all songs rock!!!!

  • I use to prefer DT 90s albuns.... my favorite is Falling into infinity..... but nowdays i lovo their new albuns.... and ToT is my favorite after falling into infinity

  • 6:38

    oh i lol'd at Myung.

  • why

  • S.O.C = suck our cocks!

    lol, mike..

  • It also means Stream of Consciousness... o.O

  • Metallica = 10 tons of Shit pile..with a capital S.

    (space)(just to make it obvious)

Dream Theater = 10 tons of Pure GOLD.. with capitals G-O-L-D..

(you can notice that there's a space between Metallica And Dream Theater above..)

  • This is why ToT is my fav DT album. They wrote it in 3 weeks. It's concise, to the point, has its own sound but it's just as progressive as any other DT album. The songs are 10+min long, they are very progressive, but at the same time they feel like songs, and never drags. It's the most fun DT album to listen to, I just love it.

And I'm not a heavy metal guy. I don't like any other "metal" band, so not, I don't like it because it's heavy. To me, this is as PROG metal as it can get.

  • ROFL! S.O.C.(Suck Our Cocks)

  • I honestly think Petrucci looks his best during Train of Thought year.

  • Funny how half of this video shows them writing Honor Thy Father yet they never play it. Easily my favorite DT song....

  • just cause it is not a soft album like they made in the 90s? you old DT fans taht cant adapt to the band changing their own preferences and turning heavier.

ToT is a beautiful album and probably my favourite.Systematic Chaos is great for me. BCSL although definitely not their best, it is really enjoyable.

On the other hand,I find much of the odler stuff plain BORING(except for a few specific tracks; but that is just taste, and that is what you old DT fans cant understand,DT is as good as ever

  • no not because it's not a soft album. it's because for me there's nothing special about it. this side doesn't fit to the band. and please don't call me old dt fan lol. i've been listening to them for about 3 years (everyday since). and i can objectively tell: this is one of their worst albums.

systematic chaos has a quite amazing concept. BC&SL is a strange album though.

  • let me guess, images and works is your favorite album right? old school dt fan?

  • one of my favorites yes.. along with awake, 6degrees and systematic chaos. so i don't consider myself as old school dt listener. (:

  • probably my favourite album of all time!

  • JP is using prs guitar in this video??

  • I think it's a musicman

  • At around 6.40 on i see hes using the prs singlecut.

For some of it i think hes using his musicman signiture.

  • yap.

and he can match every kind of guitar with his body cuz he has muscle body. i envy him.

    i need some protein

  • How do they write an album like that in 3 weeks???

  • That's just how much of geniuses they are :P.

  • These Guys gonna be kidding...damn...^^ Thought they sat a hole year writing that shit...

  • Comment removed

  • is true

  • james is filming

  • Listening to John play "Honor Thy Father" cleanly at 3:45 shows how incredibly awesome he is- it's so clean and effortless.

  • Where is James Labrie??????

  • This is funny, I've been in many bands and it would take years to write 5% of what they do in 3 months. They are so lucky they have bandmates that will take the time to do this. Awesome!!!!

  • yeah man. i wish i had a band like this. the band i'm in i'm the only one who can actually write like this. everyone else is just like. Lets play covers and i'm like <_<

  • Honor Thy Father sounded kind of cool with less distortion. It's good as is, but without, it has a cool different vibe to it.

  • They are so good and so fast creating, wow i'm jelous

  • geniuses at work!

  • I think that Frank Zappa would have loved these guys!

  • I hate portnoy's sun glasses. TOo skinny

  • Lol, it took about three weeks to make this album. (To make all the songs, and make the album look and lyrics.) That's very scary.. just listen to Stream of Consciousness - That song would have been taken like a year to create. So wonderful songs in Train Of Thought. Cool album. (Btw, Honor Thy Father has been changed around five times before he was sure about how he would be playing [in the drum intro]!)

  • actually it only took 3 weeks to write.

not including recording, mixing, producing everything else, etc

  • Lol.. it was?

Whatever.. that's very short time for making songs in this difficult style of music.

  • Oh yeah definitely theyre amazing

  • grosooo!!

  • 3 WEEKS!! YOU DIDNT SPEND ENOUGHT TIME!!!!

lol one of my favorites DT album. =)

  • You can never say a dream theater album sucks. Progressive music is just that, progressive. You are never going to hear the same thing twice. The only album you could say was meh from DT is Falling Into Infinity. And that album is pretty kick ass.

  • yah man, lines in the sand and hells kitchen are epic as hell:D
