Is it really issue "insignificant" any more than any genuine newspaper is? The whole point was to draw attention to issues; the faux newspaper simply being the form in which that was done.

The truth is most people have HMO policies . They can't choose their doctors , many necessary procedures are considered "elective " , doctors don't get paid for about 6 months after they provide service , and there are hundreds of loopholes that the insurance doesn't pay . In some cases they pay the surgeon , but not the anesthesiologist etc. The less they pay for the higher their profit . If Obama,s plan went through , 95% of people would give up their private insurance within 2 years .

Yes , the American diet is crap . However with every other industrialised nation having universal health care , you have to ask , why not us ? We rank 37th worlwide in healthcare . We have made sickness a business and the most profitable business in our country no less . Did you know cancer is the number 2 cause of growth for our Gross National Product ? What is number 1 ? Divorce . When you get sick or you get dumped , you buy a lot of products . It's a sick society .

I would be perfectly happy with it, if: A.) If you get on Obama's healthcare plan, and don't like it, you don't have to keep it, and can go back to true private insurance, B.) penalizing people for choosing to be uninsured, and to not participate in the government option is banned, outlawed and not allowed to be included in the bill, and C.) the government is not allowed to virtually run private insurance (p. 72 and 84) and any reference to these things is removed from the bill...

D.) Lawsuits and judicial review against the government for price-fixing are allowed and measures forbidding it are removed from h.r. 3200 (p. 124), E.) The government only sets the wages of healthcare workers who voluntarily choose to participate as government option doctors (p. 127 is altered to refer only to such people), F.) Employers are not punished for providing private insurance to employees, rather than the public "option" (p. 150). Fix those and problems like them, and I would agree.

There is no way around the fact that private healh care insurance will be killed by any universal health care plan . This bothers me not at all . They do a horrible job at an incredibly high price . Nobody is happy with their health care provider . I worked for a year in a physicians office . We chose not to accept any insurance whatsoever . Filing insurance has become such a problem more and more doctors are essentially becoming cash only business .

I would still prefer to keep my freedom of choice, in being able to stay uninsured if I don't want to participate, and/or switch back to a private insurance plan. Of course, it's hard to find a good insurance company seeing as miniature monopolies have been created by unreasonable regulations on both doctors (by tort lawyers) and insurance companies (being unable to buy out-of-state. I have no problem with everyone being provided coverage, if it doesn't restrict freedom or bankrupt this country.

I've gone without insurance my whole life, with the exception of a two-year period. The bill was a pain, but they didn't refuse to treat me, and they were the most flexible and reasonable creditor I've ever had to deal with. I understand uninsured getting cancer and needing coverage that doesn't preclude preexisting conditions, but can we not fix that by OFFERING care, and not forcing it on the uninsured? I will be penalized for not having any- as I would for driving without car insurance.

I completely agree that coverage should be voluntary . I never go to the doctor unless I get injured . I haven't gone to the doctor for 15 years due to illness . I eat well , no fast food and no processed food as well as gluten free . I simply do not get sick because my diet is good . However the government never gives any incentive for healthy lifestyles . Business owners who provide gym memberships to their workers should get some tax breaks for example .

Most Western European countries have longer life expectancies, though it's not much longer. From half a year (Finland) to 2.5 years (Sweden). Denmark and Ireland are about a month lower than the US.
