@karz12 You can't differentiate a Battle from a War can you. The persians won this battle but LOST THE WAR. They never returned again. They lost every subsequent battle in Greece until they were driven out of Greece and the remaining invaders were killed or enslaved. That same year they lost Asia minor Mycale. to the Greeks also. In 150 years Alexander the Great finished them. You can find that in Wiki also and every other History Book ever Written on the Greco-persian Wars.

Ok Ive been reading these comments and all I gots to say is although not completely historically correct still a really good movie I liked it and thought it was so much better than if they had made it completely historically correct
We are still fighting this battle.A war between men who control people with fear and mysticism, and real men of logic. At this very moment the USA is being surpassed in the areas of technology and medical science all because certain religious groups are afraid of they're God's wrath.
I keep mishearing Xerxes as Sexies. Goddammit. What would Freud say? Also Leonidas and Xerxes are having some kind of eyesex from around 6:50 onwards, WTF. Going to watch this movie, btw, even though as a laconophile I know better.
What a joke....this movie depicts Xerxes as some sort of Darth Vader clone, which he definitely wasn't.
Ok all you kids out there and Wannabe Warriors: If you want to know the REAL history, go and read a book by REAL historians! The real history is far more interesting, far more truthful. And you'll be spared the realization that you just got ripped-off ten bucks at the movie theater by some Hollywood studio.
I sincerely loved the movie however we must be mindful that although a very good movie it was still a movie. The truth is the Spartans indulged in homosexual behavior a Spartan would also allowed a larger Spartan man to have sex with his wife with hopes of producing a superior warrior child.
@spyfromsparta shut the fuck up asshole if leonidas is loser what you are??the gayest person ever..you will never even can imagine how big is the heart of greeks now just SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH UP !
god damned niggers! why does the white boy liberals want everyone to kneel to the slave of the earth, damn you stupid bitches! damn your family!!!!! and you!!!!!
@satualm Ia m a straight Indian male but if it was a choice of hsnging out with an army of all men wearing nothing but leather pants or chilling with a 10ft metosexual surrounded by half women half beast bitches french kissing nI would go for the second choice.
This film is definitely manipulating the history once in Iranian culture and history Kings never wear such a stupid costumes as seen on the film, and we know west is very good at the manipulation of history and to show as as devil on such a case! watch this: watch?v=_TD76nIqfsE&feature=player_embedded
Best line in the movie: The world will know that free men stood against a tyrant. That few stood against many, and before this battle is over that even a godking can bleed! Oh how I wish there were more people like Leonidas in this world!
Deuteronomy 3:11 “For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of the giants.[a] Indeed his bedstead was an iron bedstead. (Is it not in Rabbah of the people of Ammon?) Nine cubits is its length and four cubits its width, according to the standard cubit.
@pepinozinanasshole Are you fucking stupid? After Athens crushed the Persians on sea, 1 year later the Spartans defeated the rest of the Persians and the war ended... learn history dumb ass
@TheGuilleSuit But they didn't fight the indians otherwise they would have been defeated badly. WE had elephants leonadas would have been crushed by an elephant. Alexander "the great" saw our army and fleed from the battle retreating to safety. Alexander came to conquer India not the other way round. Is Alexander the tyrant
@K14841 Wrong Alexander Defeated Porus. A great battle was fought the Greeks met elephants in war.But Alexander's soldiers were far better drilled and far stronger than the Indians. His horsemen charged the elephants in flank, and they, stung to madness by the Greek darts, turned to fleed. The Indian war-chariots stuck fast in the mud. At length he yielded to the conqueror. But now that Porus was defeated Alexander was gracious to him, and treated him as one great king
@Boukephalos1 No it is you who is wrong. Porus was a small king of a small kingdom. Who Alexander had great difficultly in defeating. Many people are unsure whether he did defeat Porus. But for arguements sake after defeating King Porus a king of a very small kingdom on the outskirts of India. He set into India and was confronted by a large army the Maghad army and seeing the size and power of the army he turned and fled from India.
@Boukephalos1 This is fact you can research into it. Now for a man that was set to conquer India and for a man that defeated a vast empire such as Persia when he saw the size and power of the Maghad army he fled. After all he was impressed that a king of a small empire had knocked him of his horse and fought braverly despite being outnumbered. He knew if he was to fight the Maghad army he would have lost and being wise that he was he decided to flee from India. The guy knew he had to quit .
@Boukephalos1 Now for an King to go to battle and get scared and turn back is disgraceful. Especially since had initiated the attack with the goal to capture India in the first place.
@K14841 I know you wish that were true but unfortunately for you that's not TRUE. As Alexander marched through India he fought battles, built altars, and founded cities. One city he called Boukephala in honor of his favorite horse Bucephalus, which died and was buried there. Other cities he called Alexandreia in honor of his own name. He lift because his men got wary not him or because of the Indians.
@Boukephalos1 Thats the most made up crap I have ever heard. There is no city in India called alexandria. There is no settlement of any greeks in India. What i said was the truth. There are thousands of sources that state that he left because he was confronted by a giagantic army . The Maghad Army.
@2009ELGRECO I know my history and my history is in every book. Mauryan empire was an Indian Empire. There is no Greek influence on Indian culture at all because Maurayan empire ruled India at that specific time. The first civilisation that conquered India was the Mughals and the influence of this can be seen in India today in the language and buildings and music.
@Boukephalos1 Quote As for the Macedonians, however, their struggle with Porus blunted their courage and stayed their further advance into India. For having had all they could do to repulse an enemy who mustered only twenty thousand infantry and two thousand horse, they violently opposed Alexander when he insisted on crossing the river Ganges also, the width of which, as they learned, was •thirty-two furlongs, its depth •a hundred fathoms, while its banks on the further side were
@K14841 He faced 500-1 million persians 3 times an Indian army of any size would not have bothered him, with 40,000 Greeks. Porus was now his alliy but his men mutinied and he put it down. His decision was based on his remaining mens desire to go home, noithing else. Indians never defeated him. And that's what you were implying. His ally Porus ruled his area for another 25 yrs with Greek help. So you see my Truth is better then your bravado. Keep trying you my find someone to believe you.
@Boukephalos1 His men mutinied because they saw the force of the Indian Army. You are forgetting that despite defeating 500-1 million Persians the hardest battle he face was against Porus. After this battle his army protested that they would not go on to fight a enormous Maghad army. They knew they would be crushed.
@K14841 porus ruled all of Punjabi that is not a lesser King. That is all of what is now Pakistan, when it was Hindu. It the maghadi army was so great they would have attacked him. They didn't. Your efforts are falling and failing on deaf ears.Look your whole debate from is a red-herring Alexander the Great was Never Defeated by anyone let alone Indians. But If I were you, be grateful he place your country on the map of his conquests.
@Boukephalos1 He came to India because he heard of the gold and riches we had. Same reason why he went through Persia. In fact everyone wanted to come to India Mughals, Columbus etc etc. However u have to accept that he didnt conquer India he failed. He was scred and went back. That is not the true quaility of a brave king.
@Shadowcry1000 Come out from under the shadows it's clouding your vision, because he was never defeated. He never had a logistics problem. His decision to cross the desert was to accomplish and emulate a previous conqueror..It seems I get the last laugh out loud.
And your whiny-butt opinion is? Come make me laugh. I.'m waiting.
Great comeback fagtard. Does your mom write comebacks for you?
If anything his generals butchered his only son and wife preventing an Alexandrian dynasty from uniting both east and west thus failure. He had a logistics problem crossing the desert - or do all the deaths from attrition discount that.
If he lived longer he would not have accomplished anything beyond the current borders.
@Shadowcry1000 It took you two weeks to comeback with that Crying boy's whiny-butt rebuttal, Unfortunately you seem to have lost your comedic attraction. Don't feel bad. A lot of people have no talent! His men didn't die, only the camp followers died and cried, much like you just did after reading my response. However you do cast a shadow of stupidity.
I didn't notice your retarded comment until two weeks later because obviously you are an unimportant tool.
Yeah, you wonder why he didn't continue any farther- because he would have been defeated logistically. The steppes proved to costly to invade. Afghanistan was token conquered and india revolted as soon as he left.
Let me guess you must be the @Shadowcrier,your ancestors must number in the millions; it's hard to believe that many people are to blame for producing you. Keep talking, someday you'll say something intelligent! Nah! you're just a shadow of your crying self.
@Boukephalos1 What you don't understand is Porus was infact a no one. But that no one gave him the hardest battle of his life. His men understood that fighting the Maghad army was suicide and wanted to return
@K14841 He NEVER LOST TO INDIANS AND CONQUERED THE WEST HINDU PROVINCE NOW CALLED PAKISTAN. HE WAS NEVER FRIGHTENED OF ANYTHING. THAT'S A FACT! YOU HAVE, NO PROOF WHATSOEVER.
@Boukephalos1 He brought war to peaceful land of Buddha and Shankara. That is a great accomplishment. Whatever the word great means, he was nothing but a selfish tiny minded mindless warlord.
@aajoshi222 I assume you were posting to me the second time, nevertheless you are mistaken to whom you posted (to yourself) and history. By the way Nothing was peaceful at that time in that part of the world and still isn't today,. Alexander the Great never lost and he Conquered the Greatist Empire of it's time with only 40,000 Greek Macedonians.... Quit while your behind.
@Boukephalos1 There is no doubt that Alexander was a great general and his strategies were brilliant but his soldiers murdered and raped people. He burnt the Persepolis to ashes when he was drunk and killed his best friend. His men raped all of the women in any city that didn`t surrender. When we judge someone we must consider everything. He is honoured coz of his empire and battles and scolded coz of his violence .
@MrAmin111gh Now you do know it was in drunken retaliation for the burning and slaughter of the remaining Greeks in Athens by Xerxes so please don't pretend this act was not done by all conquerors from the beginning of time even to this day by the Taliban, muslims in Africa, and prisoners in iranian jails. However, Xerxes did far worse to Babylon and then Egypt in reprisal for their rebellions after his defeat by the United Greeks.
@Boukephalos1 I think you forgot to mention Vietnam war, guantanamo and abu ghraib prison. I don`t think even Talibans and muslims in Africa have done such terrible things to their prisoners, at least they don`t claim to have Human rights but US shouts for human rights whenever there is a benefit for it.
@MrAmin111gh Putting underwear garments on muslim murders isn't torture, Weatherboarding 3 terrorists that beheaded Americans isn;t torture. But your prisons are ripe with present daily tortured victims that will never be heard from again. You see my truth is better then yours. Viet nam was War. And the north murdered more of then own then the Americans killed in battle. As for America, U would be a nazi or communist Slave if it weren't for the USA. Oh wait you are to the mullahs. Have nice day
@MrAmin111gh Finally, if you haven't read what the Taliban have done to thosands women and children of political towns folk who dislike them or the muslims in Dafur Africa or Somalia or Kenya or Sudan or Egypt done to Christians then you really do live in iran.
@Boukephalos1 Well you`re just a redneck . I don`t live in Iran but I like my country and hate mullahs. If you are so proud of what US has done in Abu Gharib or Guantanamo, you know nothing of Human rights.Any human has some rights even a murderer or a terrorist. (Human being). You`re defending of raping Vietnamese women by Americans and pulling out Viet soldiers` intestines. I got it. Human rights are just for white people. oh wait you`re just a Ku Klux Klan who still believes in racism.
@Boukephalos1 covered with multitudes of men-at‑arms and horsemen and elephants. For they were told that the kings of the Ganderites and Praesii were awaiting them with eighty thousand horsemen, two hundred thousand footmen, eight thousand chariots, and six thousand fighting elephants. And there was no boasting in these reports. For Androcottus, who reigned there not long afterwards, made a present to Seleucus of five hundred elephants
This is fact you can research into it.
@MATTHEWTHEINGRAM: Thanks for stating the obvious. However if I wanted accuracy I would have gone to a history class or watch a documentary. This movie is based on a graphic novel, which itself, is loosely based on the real Leonitus and his 300. The movie and novel romanticize these battles to a great degree, but they did an awesome job. Plus Xerxes is such a great antagonist to.
@Baldoxxx4000 Actually you dumb inbred fuck face nerd , Xerxes was made by the director to look like a symbol for Persia , To be a all powerful kingdom , & excuse me for having a life and not reading comic books and actually listen in history class
@MATTHEWTHEINGRAM even history is certainly inaccurate and mostly made up to make it sound like it actually happened and dramatic, now that makes you twice the retard .... ಠ_ಠ
Good move. Bad history =(. Feel sorry for the people who watch this and think they either know Persia or Sparta. Both civilizations are far more complex than people generally believe. Persia did not deserve to be damned as they were, as both Alexander and the Romans continued their administrative and religious policies afterwards without being damned. Well thats history for you, mostly wrong and prejudiced with agenda.
Actually the Persians were MUCH MUCH darker, if you look at the stones found containing King Darius he was VERY DARK, and so were the four soldiers they showed lined up. The people in Persia today is the result of rape, and just a bunch of mongrels.
@FlawlessJ90 Have you even read Herodotus? If so you would realize the Persians were a pragmatic and henotheistic culture that promoted acculteration and adaptation from other cultures. They didn't define people by race, but by loyalty and ability. The Bahistun inscription as you would say shows a Dark side of Darius I shows him that way as he was putting down revolts in the mainland of Persia. Learn the context of their time and their culture before you dare to damn their civilization.
@Avaaritia Yea they adopted from other cultures maybe way of life, but they never adopted other people. What the hell you think they were adopt the children? Of course I know race was started by insecure white people who felt bad about the way they looked so started race and put their color high. Back then it was purely about respect, thats how was back then. Come on now Darius was dark get over it, so many depictions of him being so, even his soldiers were dark.
I'm curious to know. do women find him attractive?

K14841 4 months ago
@K14841 :P
TheGuilleSuit 4 months ago
@K14841 Wrong Alexander Defeated Porus. A great battle was fought the Greeks met elephants in war.But Alexander's soldiers were far better drilled and far stronger than the Indians. His horsemen charged the elephants in flank, and they, stung to madness by the Greek darts, turned to fleed. The Indian war-chariots stuck fast in the mud. At length he yielded to the conqueror. But now that Porus was defeated Alexander was gracious to him, and treated him as one great king
Boukephalos1 3 months ago 4

K14841 3 months ago
@Boukephalos1 Now for an King to go to battle and get scared and turn back is disgraceful. Especially since had initiated the attack with the goal to capture India in the first place.
K14841 3 months ago
@K14841 I know you wish that were true but unfortunately for you that's not TRUE. As Alexander marched through India he fought battles, built altars, and founded cities. One city he called Boukephala in honor of his favorite horse Bucephalus, which died and was buried there. Other cities he called Alexandreia in honor of his own name. He lift because his men got wary not him or because of the Indians.
Boukephalos1 3 months ago 4

K14841 3 months ago
@Boukephalos1 Quote As for the Macedonians, however, their struggle with Porus blunted their courage and stayed their further advance into India. For having had all they could do to repulse an enemy who mustered only twenty thousand infantry and two thousand horse, they violently opposed Alexander when he insisted on crossing the river Ganges also, the width of which, as they learned, was •thirty-two furlongs, its depth •a hundred fathoms, while its banks on the further side were
K14841 3 months ago
@K14841 He faced 500-1 million persians 3 times an Indian army of any size would not have bothered him, with 40,000 Greeks. Porus was now his alliy but his men mutinied and he put it down. His decision was based on his remaining mens desire to go home, noithing else. Indians never defeated him. And that's what you were implying. His ally Porus ruled his area for another 25 yrs with Greek help. So you see my Truth is better then your bravado. Keep trying you my find someone to believe you.
Boukephalos1 3 months ago 4

Boukephalos1 3 months ago 8
@Boukephalos1 He came to India because he heard of the gold and riches we had. Same reason why he went through Persia. In fact everyone wanted to come to India Mughals, Columbus etc etc. However u have to accept that he didnt conquer India he failed. He was scred and went back. That is not the true quaility of a brave king.

@Boukephalos1

Yeah, you wonder why he didn't continue any farther- because he would have been defeated logistically. The steppes proved to costly to invade. Afghanistan was token conquered and india revolted as soon as he left.
He was logistically at his limits.

Boukephalos1 2 months ago 9
@Boukephalos1 There is no doubt that Alexander was a great general and his strategies were brilliant but his soldiers murdered and raped people. He burnt the Persepolis to ashes when he was drunk and killed his best friend. His men raped all of the women in any city that didn`t surrender. When we judge someone we must consider everything. He is honoured coz of his empire and battles and scolded coz of his violence .
MrAmin111gh 2 weeks ago
@MrAmin111gh Now you do know it was in drunken retaliation for the burning and slaughter of the remaining Greeks in Athens by Xerxes so please don't pretend this act was not done by all conquerors from the beginning of time even to this day by the Taliban, muslims in Africa, and prisoners in iranian jails. However, Xerxes did far worse to Babylon and then Egypt in reprisal for their rebellions after his defeat by the United Greeks.
Boukephalos1 2 weeks ago 3
@Boukephalos1 I think you forgot to mention Vietnam war, guantanamo and abu ghraib prison. I don`t think even Talibans and muslims in Africa have done such terrible things to their prisoners, at least they don`t claim to have Human rights but US shouts for human rights whenever there is a benefit for it.
MrAmin111gh 2 weeks ago
@MrAmin111gh Putting underwear garments on muslim murders isn't torture, Weatherboarding 3 terrorists that beheaded Americans isn;t torture. But your prisons are ripe with present daily tortured victims that will never be heard from again. You see my truth is better then yours. Viet nam was War. And the north murdered more of then own then the Americans killed in battle. As for America, U would be a nazi or communist Slave if it weren't for the USA. Oh wait you are to the mullahs. Have nice day
Boukephalos1 2 weeks ago 3
@MrAmin111gh Finally, if you haven't read what the Taliban have done to thosands women and children of political towns folk who dislike them or the muslims in Dafur Africa or Somalia or Kenya or Sudan or Egypt done to Christians then you really do live in iran.
Boukephalos1 2 weeks ago 3
@Boukephalos1 Well you`re just a redneck . I don`t live in Iran but I like my country and hate mullahs. If you are so proud of what US has done in Abu Gharib or Guantanamo, you know nothing of Human rights.Any human has some rights even a murderer or a terrorist. (Human being). You`re defending of raping Vietnamese women by Americans and pulling out Viet soldiers` intestines. I got it. Human rights are just for white people. oh wait you`re just a Ku Klux Klan who still believes in racism.
MrAmin111gh 2 weeks ago
@Boukephalos1 covered with multitudes of men-at‑arms and horsemen and elephants. For they were told that the kings of the Ganderites and Praesii were awaiting them with eighty thousand horsemen, two hundred thousand footmen, eight thousand chariots, and six thousand fighting elephants. And there was no boasting in these reports. For Androcottus, who reigned there not long afterwards, made a present to Seleucus of five hundred elephants

FlawlessJ90 5 months ago
@FlawlessJ90 lol what? His stones were dark?
MasamuneAzure 5 months ago
@FlawlessJ90 Have you even read Herodotus? If so you would realize the Persians were a pragmatic and henotheistic culture that promoted acculteration and adaptation from other cultures. They didn't define people by race, but by loyalty and ability. The Bahistun inscription as you would say shows a Dark side of Darius I shows him that way as he was putting down revolts in the mainland of Persia. Learn the context of their time and their culture before you dare to damn their civilization.
Avaaritia 5 months ago
@Avaaritia Yea they adopted from other cultures maybe way of life, but they never adopted other people. What the hell you think they were adopt the children? Of course I know race was started by insecure white people who felt bad about the way they looked so started race and put their color high. Back then it was purely about respect, thats how was back then. Come on now Darius was dark get over it, so many depictions of him being so, even his soldiers were dark.
FlawlessJ90 5 months ago
@Avaaritia Xeres color was a good depiction but could have been a little darker, most likely the Persians back then did not get no lighter than him.
