ok so maybe it's not in the spirit of punk and they look old but so do a lot of us. When I saw them perform on tv for the first time in almost 20 years it sent chills of excitement though me, they still sounded great, They were one of the few punk bands I missed the first time round so I was sooo ready to see them at Finsbury Park and I was not disappointed...awesome!
God this is so sad. They are about as relevant as Green Day here. I just hope they got some of the money that they were scammed of the first time around. There really is no other reason for this.
@sfshinz I know what you mean and yet if you crank it up, it still sounds pretty good. But you are right, they are still preying on 35 year old stuff to get a few extra quid.
@sfshinz Ahh, I get you. Well, tbh I think all there stuff, whichever part of there career has been well crafted for each style they've gone through. There early stuff up until Nimrod was offensive but not as obvious as lyrics such as the Sex Pistols. Later stuffs definitley more radio friendly, and definitley innocuous, but if anything has more politically charged meaning.
@sfshinz I'm sorry......let me just make sure I understand what it is you are saying. You are saying that The Pistols are sad? Oh dear, you just don't get it do you? When John Joseph Lydon screams 'and we don't care', he actually, deep down, on a basic and brutally honest level, means it! They are without comparison, I have yet to see ANY band before or since that have really stuck it to the Establishment/Government/Big business. Who's doing it now???
@splitneyboria Nothing remotely sad about the Pistols from 1975-1978, not even their final gig at Winterland, which I have seen footage of, and was surprised at how powerful they were even at their worst (which pretty much everybody agrees that show represented). What's sad is watching them on Letterman. Again, I understand it, and hope they got some of they money they were scammed out of originally; there is something sad about watching them hopping about in a television studio 20 years later.
@FairiesFuckHumans It must suck for you, being such a loser. At least you like the Ramone though. But the Sex Pistols not punk? HAH! The Sex Pistols and the Damned were like the first 2 British punk bands, dumbass.
@DrMichaelHfuhruhurr Yes. You are a brilliant surgeon, Dr, but you know nothing about Sex Pistols history. If you stop spending so much time hanging out with brains, and more time reading up on punk rock history, you will be all set!
@DrMichaelHfuhruhurr Obviously you know shit about the 'Pistols.Sid wasn't the "origenal" (original), stupid. Sid wasn't even on Nevermind the Bullocks. Steve Jones actually played most of the bass parts on that album (look it up!). And Glen Matlock played on 3 tracks. And Sid's bass playing only appeared on Bodies, on the original album. Sid was one of the worst bass players ever. And his addiction ruined the Sex Pistols. The only cool thing Sid did was sing "My Way."
@ogrebattle22763 Well you obviously don't know anything about Joe Strummer & the Clash. They DID get offers throughout the years since their breakup to reform the band & they always turned it down. It's pretty well-documented, actually. Not only is THAT well-documented, but it's also well-known how anti-music industry they were and the constant fights with their record label (selling double and triple albums for the price of one, forgoing royalties, being broke all the time, etc). LOOK IT UP.
@iwantcompletecontrol Right & I suppose they became musicians & artists not because of the fame or money or anything like that right... Anti-music industry? Yes aren't they all... but the truth is they were in the music business & they made their money through the music industry..... Anti - music industry my ass.... that's what they want fans like you to believe.... the problem is when your a hardcore fan you take everything they say seriously...
@iwantcompletecontrol Yes they turned it down surely because the money just wasn't to their liking... every artist is always going to have fights & disagreements with their label it's the nature of the business... Queen went through it when they were first coming up... & if The Clash signed off on some bad deals that mean't them forgoing royalties whose fault is that?
@ogrebattle22763 Again, you clearly didnt look it up. The Clash forwent royalties on Sandinista - a triple album - so they could sell it for the price of a single. And yes, they realized that signing with a label was a bad idea (see: Complete Control). Strummer didn't make music again til 99 because he waited for his shitty contract to expire. If he wanted $ he definitely could've had it. I didn't know this was actually a disputable issue. Joe's been called a lot of things, but sell-out? Really?
@iwantcompletecontrol So what.. so they sold Sandinista a triple album for the price of a single from a business point of view to agree to something like that is in itself absolutely ridiculous... so they should be hailed for that?I don't understand what your telling me about them - that they should be looked upon as some cool band or smart band? I'm not sure I understand the message your trying to deliver here...
@ogrebattle22763 Dude, read what the heck you're saying. "from a business point of view to agree to something like that is in itself absolutely ridiculous" -- EXACTLY! That alone should prove they weren't in it for the money. If they wanted money, Sandinista would've been TRIPLE THE PRICE! Good God, has corporate music finally taken over so much that you can't possibly FATHOM that a band could've once been in it only for the sake of making good music and spreading an important message?
@iwantcompletecontrol Oh jesus christ whatever the fuck ever... your obviously one of these hardcore Clash fans who worships the ground they walk on....
@iwantcompletecontrol If your trying to tell me that they weren't in it for the money don't tell me that... any musicians dream is to become famous make money & gather up a fan base & a following which the Clash clearly had so what's the story here? They are icons & true punks because they didn't do things that the average band did? If that's what your saying then I disagree with you that's all... I'm not saying your not allowed to have your own opinion ok I just disagree that's all...
@ogrebattle22763 "They are icons & true punks because they didn't do things that the average band did?" Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Honestly if the Clash wanted to be the next Led Zeppelin or Rolling Stones they could've, but its hard to do that when youre practically giving away your music, letting people into your concerts for free through the back door, writing about political topics (they named an album Sandinista for god's sake), etc. Those are facts. Anyways, think what you want.
@iamdhump Joe was playing with his band The Mescaleros and Mick jumped on stage at the end for a few songs. It was more of an impromptu performance, not an all-out "reunion" like the Pistols.
LOLOL....Bit older, middle age spread, voice not as strong but can still belt out my fave of their songs. I still have this record, 4yrs on I wonder what they're doing.

@JZilla76 Sid was a late comer to the Sex Pistols. He was a heroin addict that destroyed the band. Get your history right if you want to seem like you know what you are talking about.
@tedsund ~ I know my history and I believe Malcom McLauren once stated that had he seen Sid first he would of recruited him as the "frontman" instead of Lydon? Also I dont know how Sid was a "late comer" since the Sex Pistols entire career lasted all of less than four years of wich Sid was along for half. Furthermore, if they were so great without him how did he "destroy the band"? Others came and went so by that statement alone you admit without Sid they were nothing! lol!
@tedsund I wouldn't put all the blame on Sid, though as a song writing outfit I think they only wrote 3 songs after Vicious joined. An equally big problem was Rotten's poor relationship with the rest of the band but especially McLaren who he despised at the end (Jones & Cook also seemed to Rotten to be on McLarens side). @tedsund he didn't destroy the band at first. In the beginning he progressed really quickly and had a genuine desire to learn how to play. it was pretty much after he met nancy that things went downhill
@tedsund seriously i feel it was nancy if the movie sid n nancy was correct bout how everything in both their lives went down then i say it was nancy who cause the break up of the sex pistols and of course sid was blind not just blinded by drugs but blinded by love ie being in love with nancy and listening n doing everything she said
@EinMagillaGorilla You tell it like it is Sid was a fucking junkie period... He sucked... they would unplug his bass because the fucker was a retard who couldn't play.....

How's that for holding my anger douche... now get the fuck outta here... before I make you my bitch...
@danielscissorhands You need to mind your fucking business... before I do a tap dance on your head you'll never forget I'll show you how to hold my anger... Faggot mother fucker...

@EinMagillaGorilla Hey Magilla... did you forget about me? You fucking Turd.. Oh where oh where is my friendly Magilla Gorilla.... Oh where Oh Where can she be!
@ogrebattle22763 **Disclaimer: I am a huge Sex Pistols fan!** They were all junkies, and NONE of them knew how to play. Geez. They didn't become famous because anyone was any good in the band. They became famous as part of a marketing ploy. Doesn't make me like them less but the truth is the truth.
@ryedain Then how did they manage to write all their own songs and create the most influential album of all time?
You really need to do your homework before spouting rubbish. Wikipedia them and look at the masses of groups who took their primary infuence from the Pistols.
Lydon is a great lyricist, Matlock is a great song writer and Jones is a great guitarist who created a sound all of his own using simple barred chords, dubbing, dropping octaves and combining for the wall of sound.
@Maxshard This is the truth. Steve Jones guitar sound is instantly recognisable and has been emulated by bands all over the world. Joe Lydon's lyrics are awesome and his singing style unique. For those that were around at the time, of which I am one, when The Pistols arrived on the music scene it was a wake up call to the youth of the 70's to start asking questions. It was unbelievably exciting.....great days!
@JZilla76 You're right. Johnny, Steve, Glen and Paul make the Sex Pistols. Sid was a footnote who contributed nothing. Enjoy the song you're hearing? Written by Mr. Glen Matlock, original and current bassist. 'Nuff said.
Paul Cook of THE SEX PISTOLS recalls how his birthday celebration during the band's reunion tour went horribly awry. Read more at The Worst Gig (WorstGig.com).
Saw them play in Adelaide, Australia in 1996. Wasn't expecting too much, but they totally effing rocked. And the packed town hall they played to went apeshit from opener to encore. Fantastic night.
@FairiesFuckHumans Why is this moaning cunt still leaving comments? FairiesFuckHumans: we don't care what your opinions are, don't watch th Sex Pistols if you don't like them.
Saw this band at Crystal palace sports ground back in 2002 - absolutely terrible. At the time of the first encore Steve Jones was so disinterested he forgot to go off stage with the rest of the band! Still the venue was almost full so they made a good nights wage peddling their nostalgia.
That record gave me the guts to form a band. I couldnt see myself being in The eagles or the Stones, but I could see myself being a Pistol or a Ramone. This might have been commercialized punk, but it woke a whole bunch of us teenagers up in the 70's and then we listened to other stuff, and saw local punk bands. I love it and I always will.
@FairiesFuckHumans I mean you're talking shit. If you don't like the Pistols, pioneers of punk, then don't visit Sex Pistols footage on youtube and leave whiny comments. There is nothing whatsoever to substantiate your comments on how they are superficial. You cannot get any more of an opposite to superficial than the Sex Pistols. They were taking the piss out of the establishment; they knew it and so did most intelligent people. Are you a failed musician? Were you bullied at school?
@FairiesFuckHumans All that crap was down to Malcolm Mclaren and his business sense which is well documented. It is a case of the establishment fucking itself which is very punk. As far as I'm concerned there are two bands that symbolise punk: the Ramones for starting it off properly (after the New York Dolls, MC5, the Stooges paved the way admirably) and the Sex Pistols who epitomised the attitude. What better way to piss off the Americans than to appear on Letterman.
@joey4245 - Glen Matlock was the original bassist and co-wrote the bulk of those classic SP songs with John Lydon. The Pistols did very little recording with Sid Vicious. He was more of a mascot than a contributor.
Where is your liver, John?!

@ogrebattle22763 **Disclaimer: I am a huge Sex Pistols fan!** They were all junkies, and NONE of them knew how to play. Geez. They didn't become famous because anyone was any good in the band. They became famous as part of a marketing ploy. Doesn't make me like them less but the truth is the truth.
ryedain 2 months ago
@ryedain Then how did they manage to write all their own songs and create the most influential album of all time?
You really need to do your homework before spouting rubbish. Wikipedia them and look at the masses of groups who took their primary infuence from the Pistols.
Lydon is a great lyricist, Matlock is a great song writer and Jones is a great guitarist who created a sound all of his own using simple barred chords, dubbing, dropping octaves and combining for the wall of sound.
Maxshard 1 month ago
@Maxshard Oh, please! The most influential album of all time?
RManFlint 4 weeks ago
@RManFlint Ok! Let's have some of your own opinions, rather than that of music journlalists and countles polls?
Maxshard 4 weeks ago
@Maxshard This is the truth. Steve Jones guitar sound is instantly recognisable and has been emulated by bands all over the world. Joe Lydon's lyrics are awesome and his singing style unique. For those that were around at the time, of which I am one, when The Pistols arrived on the music scene it was a wake up call to the youth of the 70's to start asking questions. It was unbelievably exciting.....great days!

@splitneyboria You're preaching to thr converted.
Maxshard 2 weeks ago
@JZilla76 You're right. Johnny, Steve, Glen and Paul make the Sex Pistols. Sid was a footnote who contributed nothing. Enjoy the song you're hearing? Written by Mr. Glen Matlock, original and current bassist. 'Nuff said.

Saw them play in Adelaide, Australia in 1996. Wasn't expecting too much, but they totally effing rocked. And the packed town hall they played to went apeshit from opener to encore. Fantastic night.

Were you bullied at school?
angryhandjob 6 months ago
@FairiesFuckHumans You sound more spunk than punk.
angryhandjob 6 months ago
@FairiesFuckHumans All that crap was down to Malcolm Mclaren and his business sense which is well documented. It is a case of the establishment fucking itself which is very punk. As far as I'm concerned there are two bands that symbolise punk: the Ramones for starting it off properly (after the New York Dolls, MC5, the Stooges paved the way admirably) and the Sex Pistols who epitomised the attitude. What better way to piss off the Americans than to appear on Letterman.

joey4245 6 months ago
@joey4245 - Glen Matlock was the original bassist and co-wrote the bulk of those classic SP songs with John Lydon. The Pistols did very little recording with Sid Vicious. He was more of a mascot than a contributor.
