    do they really do that?

    fuck off.......

    bukowski knew the real deal..................

im off now cuz i bet someone is telling me to fuck off!

    saluud charles and you others!!

    you know who you are!

  • @cfhdude Aren't you the though boy with your Jamie Oliver, 2unlimited, graffiti and computer game favourites.

  • oh wise one...bullshit.

  • that's the top comment? it's so overheard and unoriginal the drunk school girl on prom night line? fuck! real deal? what-the-fuck-ever. why must there be comments and comments of the fuckin' comments get me the fuck outa here!

  • I'm saying it now, Bukowski knew.

  • Comment removed

  • @StrawberryJungle you're easier than the whores of the bible.

  • Comment removed

  • @StrawberryJungle ...wasn't being patronising. calling someone easy isn't in the least bit a compliment. when you're easily satisfied by mundane shit, you tend to submit yourself to and give in to lies and more stupid shit--not a good thing. there's nothing genius about what he says in this video--it's complete delusion. too much sleep is just as unhealthy as not enough...and besides, only a narcoleptic or maybe an alcoholic could sleep for days on end.

  • @azurenscens Yes I'm quite aware that it wasn't a compliment. You were being very condescending. You have no idea about what I'm satisfied by. You don't go throwing accusing comments at people you don't know as if you're better than them. If you'd actually noticed before you jumped down my throat, I never said I agreed with Bukowski. I just found what he's saying interesting. No one realistic has the time to sleep for days on end anyway.

  • "Someday they'll say, 'Bukowski knew.'"

  • Charles Bukowski is the Messiah

  • @LingoFlurry his face was like that because he dealt with severe acne his entire life you dumb fuck!

  • @leathermystband It wasn't just the acne scars you cock sucker...he had a face that had seen everything and experienced a life that would take us a thousand lifetimes to live.

  • If I tried this my wife would kill me in my sleep.

  • @awwwyeaboyeeee Your wife is a bitch and you should leave her

  • @JonathanBloggs If we were on Facebook I would "like" your comment.

  • bukowski knew..

  • hmmm. i'll try it. thanks charles. reading week is coming up and i'm going to give it up for a few days. pretty excited actually.

  • I did this in high school. I slept for 16-20 hours per day but I did it for a few months. I dropped out of school because I didn't go to school so I could stay home and sleep. It helped a bit, but wasn't a cure.

  • Yeah we can't get out of the circle because we have to have fucking jobs.

  • he's bipolar

  • I love him.

  • Bukowski knew.

  • Misread this as "Charles Bartowski"

  • HAHAHA it is so funny to watch this and read comments. A video about a cynical know-it-all and debated by a bunch of lesser known cynical know-it-alls.

  • @adelgander

And your point??? Better freshen up your cocktail and pull up a chair. Am I going too fast for you?????

  • that's what I use my vacation days for. cheers, Buk.

  • When you're a kid in grade school and high school the fictional syllabus has books that always have the implied word, "MORAL" and the end followed by a colon and the summing up of the books didactic purpose. Then you discover the novels of authors like William S. Burroughs, Celine and of course Bukowski who just....don't.....give.....a....shit. I think it's important to realize that the epiphany that these authors give us is more due to the time in our lives not their intrinsic value.

  • He finally gets to the truth at the end. I wonder how his boss at the Post Office would feel about him phoning in and saying that he won't be coming in for 3 or 4 days because he's depressed? They're be a lot less drunks and other assorted drug addicts around if we learned how to structure society with more slack. Not Bukowski of course, he was a natural drunkard. He'd drink even if he won a million dollars on the pick 6 at the racetrack.

  • @drmodestoesq

Yeah, he would drink. Because he's the real deal. A true drunkard. A man committed to his craft. Not some pathetic college boy who gets wasted on 2 drinks and acts like a drunk school girl on Prom night...However, my rebuttal to your comment is this: Who gives a fuck if he would or wouldn't drink if he won a million dollars. Irrevelent information. He wrote novels, he was well off, and that's the reason were having this "discussion"...

  • @Supertramp1966 Excellent point. I guess I'm one of those elitists who always implies, "I understand, but what about the people who don't." Meaning those young people who are stupid enough to think of him as a role model. In a lot of interviews and through his novels he seems to be evangelical about being an drunk. The rest of us poor sober slobs need to look to him for life's answers. I just fear that, as you say, some stupid college kid is malleable enough to believe him.

  • @Supertramp1966 Bukowski wasn't well off until way later in his life....that crazy bastard lived in alleys and slept with the rats, just look at his face.

  • @Supertramp1966 ......your just trying to sound cool

  • @LingoFlurry

Wow, you really put a lot of thought into that comment. Good for you. Your little mind should keep workin' les it disapppears.. lol

  • Wow iv watched multiple videos of this guy expressing his opinion on different things and he really has no idea what he's talkin about.... A lot of people with extreme depression do EXACTLY that, sleep for multiple days because they have no will or strength or enthusiasm to do anything else. Maybe if ur girlfriend broke up with you n ur having a bad week this would work... But not real depression SMH... This was more retarted then his "it's better for you to be an alcoholic then a pot head" vid

  • @TheLeeWJohnston This video isn't meant 2b the last word on depression.Still,it conveys positive messages. It's true-as u say-that those with depression can stay in bed for days, but it's also true that those who can be indulgent with themselves(allowing themselves days of relax when needed&not always demanding perfection/full efficiency from themselves)are less prone 2 suffer from severe stress & clinical depression.Bukowski is inviting everyone to be a bit more human/tolerant with him/herself"

  • @TheLeeWJohnston

First of all, lose the word "retarted" from your vocabulary. You sound trailer park...Secondly, learn how to spell "retarded" if your going to use it...Thirdly, BUK really does know what he's talking about. Really. He is expressing what worked for him. He's not giving advice for people who are clinically depressed. You should think about your response in the context of the video before responding. BUK is simply giving an opinion from the stance of a highly successful writer.

  • @Supertramp1966 That means we should offering the the opinion of highly successful readers. I disagree that he's offering a dispassionate opinion of what worked for him. I've seen him dismiss and degrade those sober working stiffs meeting their social and economic obligations. In other words, I'm whipping out that huge ethical shillelagh of "what if everybody did what he did."

  • Well i don't know if sleeping is the best way to deal with depression, but he does sound like he knows what he's talking about.

  • Freeze in awe for Buk.

  • wow who would have thought Garfield the cat had it right all along!

  • We'll take it out of your wages, Charles.

  • Fuck yeah brother, logical thinker, truth teller. I never heard of you until today, but I'm going to check you out lots more.

  • good advice

  • Comment removed

  • "But who the hell can do it? 'Cause you'll need a dollar." Doesn't it feel like this nowadays?

  • Genius & depression go hand-in-hand. I've yet to see a writer, poet, or artist that isn't stalked by depression.

  • @vickiehill1 well said. but, don't you think those people can fight...?

  • Charlies been exactly where he is for millions of years ching chang

  • I'll do that next time I feel down, which hasn't happened in a while, so that means it's probably coming! :D

  • 4 people need to be constantly running around, like chickens with their heads cut off, and on amphetamines all the time...

  • LOL!!!

  • Sleeping for 4 days works!!!! Now all i need is a new job.

  • Yes, yes he most certainly knew.

  • Bukowski knew.

  • Bukowski Knew....

  • I wish that I could have the opportunity to go to sleep for two or three days whenever I am feeling low. The problem is that I am constantly woken up everyday at 6am by the neighbours children.

  • @watersprite44 Earplugs help, I use soft foam, it costs almost nothing, is from recycled material and takes 33 dB away...If you can afford it, you can even get custom-made ones that block out specific ranges.

  • @watersprite44 and their goddamn dogs, too. ;0

  • It's for the depressed person who is stuck in the rat race of modern society. The general principal is to just clear your head of your mind's troubles. While you may physically lay in bed @d4n3train, its likely you still dwell on life's troubles. I have anxiety and depression, with an overactive mind. It's a terrible combination. Organize bits of truth and uncertainty in all life's events.

  • @bahhhmeran i think why it worked for bukowski is because not only did he stay in bed for 4 days, but he also gave himself permission to stay in bed for 4 days.

  • Go to sleep for three days? What about the depressed people that have been in bed for a month. I think Bukowski knows well how to manage himself but as far as his lifestyle working for everyone else... Not a chance.

  • What can you say to that? Pure genious.

  • best advice on depression I've ever heard - I work nights and I do it all the time, the man is spot on.

  • "but who the hell can do it because you need a dollar"... Fucking brilliant man.

  • People are nailed to the processes.

  • A wise dude.

  • Hank, that's why people (have to) take sick leave ... cheers

  • THANK YOUUUUUU >.>

  • @JayGatsbyOdysseus, I've read and own a large majority of his works and Women is not something I would recommend to someone who isn't already well versed is Bukowski. It sat on my shelf half read for a while. Try some of his short stories or Post Office.

  • genius, harbor your power in rest surely a true fact

  • dont get depressed about depression

  • real

  • he looks so much like my dad did

  • Yeah, this is what i've always thought too. When i feel depressed, people always tell me to be positive, but i just relax and take it easy for a while. It feels kind of nice in a way to be depressed...

  • damn, i'm listening to this for the first time, and i'm amazed! i do that all the time!, two-three days in bed, drinking and eating only when necessary, getting up just for a piss.... gets you in shape! maybe i'm wrong, but this guy lived for 74 years and was one of the greatest writers of the time. rings any bells?

  • just listening to this man's voice is almost enough to make me cry.

"there's a bluebird in my heart..."

  • Read Woman this past summer, 2011. I cannot say that Bukowski was a great writer. I can say that he was very good and his writing should be preserved. However, I would not compare Woman to Brothers of Karamazov or Hamlet (a play) or The Great Gatsby or Ulysses. Here is your great literature. Bukowski is a little below Vonnegut and Tom Robbins (who is also overrated.) I will probably not read another one of his books.

  • @JayGatsbyOdysseus

Hey, you alcoholic, read "Ham On Rye"....This wonderful book will help push you in the right direction... trust me. And, as a side note, ULYSSES was the toughest book i've ever read. I don't appreciate the "stream of consciousness" style of writing...No thanks. Was going to read " The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" but now, I'll pass.......

  • @Supertramp1966 I agree, Ulysses is very difficult. It took me 9 months to read. It took me over a year to read the Bible. I would say these are the two most difficult books I have read. I will research "Ham On Rye. I think you are poking fun at me. I will see.

  • @Supertramp1966 I researched "Ham On Rye" a little and I don't want to read another Bukowski book. I know enough about Henry Chinaski. Wikipedia describe "Ham on Rye" as similar to "Catcher in the Rye" Well, let me tell you, Salinger was way overrated. He is more overrated than Bukowski. But don't worry for your hero. Bukowski's reputation is growing even though Salinger's is dwindling some. I read Bukowski's Women because a friend gave it to me and U2's Bono loved it. But, it's marginal

  • @JayGatsbyOdysseus

Fair enough...One man's garbage is another man's treasure, right. And I wasn't "poking fun at you", aside from my reference to your drinking. It wasn't a literary shot....Having said this, I will stand firm with my stance that Ham On Rye is a wonderfully written novel, true and real. It is NON-FICTION at it's best. Buk suffered as a child, and he suffered as an adult. And that's life. Some people die a quick death, some a slow death. BUK the latter....

  • @JayGatsbyOdysseus "shakespeare never did this", that´s why u don´t get Bukowski.

  • Hmmn...I think he's on to something.

  • He sounds like he was bipolar because to sleep for days on end and then feel "enlivened" means he was cycling high to low.

  • Comment removed

  • @MishuTaste : Now that's an intelligent thought. Do you understand that someone who is bipolar is incapacitated with depression and cannot do anything during this time? Obviously you don't suffer from it and should thank God rather than act as if it's a money thing. Because Buke wasn't always famous, you know. He didn't even publish his first book until he was almost 50! He worked at the post office until 1970 when his first novel came out.

  • @lemurianchick I understand. I'm just saying: I wish I could afford to take a few days off from work whenever I want to.

  • @MishuTaste Exactly how much would that be?

  • @Fitzit87 $1,000,000

  • @MishuTaste I hate people like you.

  • @bobdy9988 Then write a poem about it.

  • @MishuTaste That was the most brilliant own, ever.

  • @bobdy9988 really!!!

  • @MishuTaste I apologize

  • Comment removed

  • @MishuTaste I was about to say .. how do you "give it up" for 3-4 days if you have responsibilities to uphold?

  • @Havanachan Yep. That's what I'm saying. No offense to Bukowski. I like the guy. I just wish I had that option of calling my boss and saying, "I need a few days off to sleep."

  • @MishuTaste It's all in how you say it. Fuck, just say you're ill. No-one has to know all you're doing is sleeping

  • aha that's basically what ive been doing all my life

  • this is true actually, there's a book called lights out:sleep, sugar and survival which basically shows that hormone imbalances can be corrected by sleeping more, and thats why people with depression sleep a lot

  • @gonzoman925 what about depressed people that don't sleep at all

  • @blisterpacman the book covers that as well. burnout from no sleep works similar to being completely well rested in terms of cortisol levels. of course its completely unsustainable

  • I stopped the video immediately after he said "I have periods".

  • Charles Bukowski died bi-winning.

  • god who'd wanna be suck an asshole?!

  • sweet lord I love bukowski,. I hate that modest mouse song where they say he's an asshole

  • @0rangekat You apparently don't have...uhm...a good comprehension skill....:o

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUK!!! Keep drinkin' and smokin' and writin' and womanizin' in your afterlife. You are not forgotten! -ST2

  • @Supertramp1966 Where the fuck you been Charlie

  • @spinster4l1fe

mate, that is so well put. Money really is the force that keeps us fearful, and thus compliant, and willing to put up with all the shit that gets thrown at us. Poverty really is the hell of earth.

    well said xxx

  • Yeah i heard it was a pretty good read

but who would want to be such a a**hole

  • Bukowski knew...

  • Comment removed

  • @GordonMorrice thanks for sharing that.

  • Comment removed

  • @GordonMorrice very well put my friend, I was just reading the wikipedia entry on social phobia, i totally have that and it applies here and to bukowski's childhood. i love his documentary.

  • @GordonMorrice "man is an animal who´s essence is to anguish, and the more deeply he feels the anguish, the more deeply human he is" Soreen Kierkegaard, you are not alone, these thoughts of anguish have never left me, they come sometimes at night, very powerful, they torn me apart, sometimes they remain quietly swimming in the depths of my soul, but they never go, but you are not alone my friend, and neither am I
