its definitely new order just played a bit slower than usual - i think its very early new order probably just after ians passing - must have been heartbreaking to play it so soon after.
Another edition to you Dark music collection. Name on Youtube is WISPRWORLD. Big fan of Joy Division and very influenced by the style of music they did. Subscribe to my channel and you will receive my new material as soon as is done. Thanks.
Damn what a magical song. I get goosebumps when i hear it. i love this version too. I need to make a video simply based on how stoked i am when i hear this tune.
This sounds like the original recording by New Order. It has more of a "Joy Division sound". The "original" New Order version is also longer. Oh, there are so many recordings of this song... what is a Joy Division fan going to do??? Either way, it is a beautiful song.
the joy divison versions are only live, this is actually new order covering it, but is still ian curtis' song because he wrote it, but this is new orders version, it is still very good, especially since it is clear...i love this song
dont know this version possibly another band member singing but definitely not Ian Curtis. only one recorded version of joy division doing this song and its a LIVE one. ian's voice is quite muffled in it and not the best recording by any means but still it exists, and its one of, if not THE last recording of Ian Curtis and Joy Division.
It's New Order, but they have slowed down the tape. That's why Sumners voice sounds like Ians voice. But it's definetely New Order. Joy Division have never made a version of Ceremony that is as clean as this one.
This version sounds strange, i have recordings from the Joy Divisions sessions and New Order sessions. I recall looking in the 80s for other versions in vinyl format, the only ones i came across are the same versions now found on CD format today. I recall buying imported vinyls , and i always ended up with the same versions of Ceremony.
"Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook rewrote the lyrics for the first verse and chorus when Ian's original lyrics could not be found. Bernard tried unsuccessfully to boost Ian's vocals in a badly recorded home demo. The attempt to uncover the lyrics at this point was used to record the original demo of Ceremony, featuring Stephen Morris on vocals, as part of the band's Western Works Demo, 7 September 1980."
Could this be the version with Stephen Morris on vocals?
what version is this song?? this is one of my favorite songs and this is my favorite version yet I can't put it on my ipod because I don't know whose version this is, New Order or Joy Division? It sounds like Ian singing but I can't find this under joy divison only the grumbled ones
did you record this off a turntable? I have this as a single and a manual turntable, and this is what it sounds like when you have the wrong speed playing.
a song New Order did to pay tribute to a good friend, who left this life too soon.Would have been great to hear an actual studio recording of this with Ian on vocals...
teah i heard it recently, could believe it, a high quality version of ceremony w ian on vocals, try limewire, a friend i heard it from got it off there somewhere
There is a version with Ian on vocals. Haven't heard it in years, but I know that Ian's vocals are muffled throughout, and the overall track quality is not nearly as good as the New Order single version.
it makes it sound more joy divisiony that way i think, lol i like this version i have this on my mp3 from ages ago, cant rememebr where i got it from its a rare version of it, one of the first new order efforts
This sounds like the version thats the first song on the New Order greatest hits. Its song #1. This song was recorded live by Joy Division at their last show though. I believe its available on CD and vinyl, but i forget the name.
they never got the chance to record it,this version is new order with sumners voice slowed down, there is a couple of live recordings knockin about, one of them is on still
no its similaiur though, the soudns clearer this is the like, prototype of the 7 inch id say lol, just ahve to download it i dont think its on any cd.
ian never sang this song it was one of the last songs he wrote, it was new orders first official release, bernand just sung his out out and tried to sound like ian.
No, only ONE occasion, their last show on May 2nd, 1980. They did a soundcheck which was also recorded and subsequently bootlegged, but there's only one live performance by Joy Division.
wasnt the track slowed down a bit to sound more baritone, because the original release doesn't sound like this. (whoever edited it because it wasn't New Order who did it.
Great Video! Anyone know if this version is available to buy (CD, MP3, heck, even vinyl!) I really like it - almost better than the other versions - it really brings out the music. I've done the usual searches, but only turn up the "standard" versions by New Order and Joy Division. Any help much appreciated!
Yes, this is the New Order version. They released it as a single after Ian's suicide, although it was performed by Joy Division live. Still superb though.
In Movement New Order's first album. Bernard Sumner attempted to mimic Ian Curtis singing, but failed. Thats why it sounds like Ian Curtis.
Bernard Sumner actually attempted to deepen his voice like Ian Curtis, but fans didnt seem for it to sound right. I hope that clears it up for you MrZZiZZler
I really like the video with all the black and white pictures. Very classic! I absolutely love this song and I think you did a great job, especially the close up on the guitars and drums in the beginning go well with the song. The only thing I slightly dislike are the pictures that are smaller, so you get to see black edges, but that's not your fault and I'm a horrible perfectionist. Nonetheless, you did very well, because I hate watching slideshows, but I honestly enjoyed this! Thank you! <3
you're welcome! i feel the same way about the small pics, its just unfortunate that my source of joy division pics is a bit limited.anyways, thanks for posting your comment here..your feedback is highly appreciated :)

The New order version is 1/2 step higher.
The recording is also a lot cleaner sounding on the New order version.
This is also OBVIOUSLY Ian singing.
Cool vid though
