  • THIS IS THE ONE

  • this is JD right?

  • @missprettyinpink8 i think it's new order.but i'm not 100% sure.

  • Is this the version with Stephen Morris on vocals (Western Works Demo)?

  • @Eswin17 i don't know..personally i think it's not stephen morris.

  • its definitely new order just played a bit slower than usual - i think its very early new order probably just after ians passing - must have been heartbreaking to play it so soon after.

  • @cedar30 yes,i imagine that would be the case. i feel the same way..

  • this is definitely from a record playing at the wrong RPM. oops.

  • @atonaldenim Nah....it's just a slower version of the song.

  • Another edition to you Dark music collection. Name on Youtube is WISPRWORLD. Big fan of Joy Division and very influenced by the style of music they did. Subscribe to my channel and you will receive my new material as soon as is done. Thanks.

  • Damn what a magical song. I get goosebumps when i hear it. i love this version too. I need to make a video simply based on how stoked i am when i hear this tune.

  • excellent version !!

  • HAHA, it's New Order's first single at the wrong speed :-) Good 'version' :-)

  • @erwinfan It's just a slower version...

  • @nobbilc shame on you

  • This is the song for the memory of Ian Curtis, from himself by the way... Somehow wonderful.

  • I must say that New Order did an excellent finish to Ceremony. PERFECT!

  • Just saw this on a vodka commercial and almost barfed. It's not like alcohol led to Ian Curtis' death or anything.

  • This sounds like the original recording by New Order. It has more of a "Joy Division sound". The "original" New Order version is also longer. Oh, there are so many recordings of this song... what is a Joy Division fan going to do??? Either way, it is a beautiful song.

  • bah, new order's with low pitch

  • 18.05.2010

  • 18.05.2010

  • the joy divison versions are only live, this is actually new order covering it, but is still ian curtis' song because he wrote it, but this is new orders version, it is still very good, especially since it is clear...i love this song

  • RIP ian curtis

  • oh and its on youtube :)

  • dont know this version possibly another band member singing but definitely not Ian Curtis. only one recorded version of joy division doing this song and its a LIVE one. ian's voice is quite muffled in it and not the best recording by any means but still it exists, and its one of, if not THE last recording of Ian Curtis and Joy Division.

  • Ai,Grande Joy Division, ficará em nossas mentes enternamente... saudade...

  • just after the suicide of ian curtis is hanging after to see the movie the balllade of bruno see in a another world ian

  • fuck, this is an amaaazing song!

  • This is Joy division.

The New order version is 1/2 step higher.

The recording is also a lot cleaner sounding on the New order version.

This is also OBVIOUSLY Ian singing.

    Cool vid though

  • It's New Order, but they have slowed down the tape. That's why Sumners voice sounds like Ians voice. But it's definetely New Order. Joy Division have never made a version of Ceremony that is as clean as this one.

  • This version sounds strange, i have recordings from the Joy Divisions sessions and New Order sessions. I recall looking in the 80s for other versions in vinyl format, the only ones i came across are the same versions now found on CD format today. I recall buying imported vinyls , and i always ended up with the same versions of Ceremony.

  • From wikipedia:

"Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook rewrote the lyrics for the first verse and chorus when Ian's original lyrics could not be found. Bernard tried unsuccessfully to boost Ian's vocals in a badly recorded home demo. The attempt to uncover the lyrics at this point was used to record the original demo of Ceremony, featuring Stephen Morris on vocals, as part of the band's Western Works Demo, 7 September 1980."

Could this be the version with Stephen Morris on vocals?

  • the half step lower is perfect. feels like they took their time with this beautiful song.

  • i heart joy division :)

  • amazing song, love this version

  • Slowed down somewhat....it actually works really well, giving its a more melancholic edge

  • what version is this song?? this is one of my favorite songs and this is my favorite version yet I can't put it on my ipod because I don't know whose version this is, New Order or Joy Division? It sounds like Ian singing but I can't find this under joy divison only the grumbled ones

  • im not really sure.but most of the comments here say its from new order

  • Joy Division- this is on the original LP

  • dont listen to these uneducated idiots, this is the new order seven inch version, it is NOT joy division. the original is a lot faster though

  • I believe I have this version on minidisc

  • did you record this off a turntable? I have this as a single and a manual turntable, and this is what it sounds like when you have the wrong speed playing.

  • its just one of those random songs i had in my pc

  • @yournotwelcum Amen

  • This is definitely slowed down, it's a semitone below the pitch they usually play it. Still nice to hear though and it's a cracking slideshow

  • without knowing the reason for it,i think the slowed down vocals actually ADD to it.call me crazy, this is my favorite version of the song.

  • This sounds like the March 1981 version by New Order, only slower. Did you adjust the tempo down???

  • nope, that's just the way it is.

  • @anemicsilence

    don't say "nope"

just say thats the way it is

    learn2Blogical from yournotwelcum

  • @Vokja

    what's wrong with that?

  • Beautifiu song, I hate that they had to use it in a stupid vodka ad...what a shame.

  • What version is this? I know it's by New Order but it sounds different.

  • It's Joy Division's version, this band originated the New Order after Ian Curtis' suicide.

  • epic song

  • hi there spambot..eat shit. :-)

  • love it. so dreamlike from the start.

  • the original isbetter... much much better...

  • do you mean the live recordings with ian on vocals OR the second (faster) version of this with gillian on guitar???

  • Cool!

  • a song New Order did to pay tribute to a good friend, who left this life too soon.Would have been great to hear an actual studio recording of this with Ian on vocals...

  • It does exist, live and on booteg and on STILL.

  • Live =/= not studio recording

  • teah i heard it recently, could believe it, a high quality version of ceremony w ian on vocals, try limewire, a friend i heard it from got it off there somewhere

  • @fezzic024 It's originally a JD song and you can hear a live version of Curtis singing it on 'Still'

But ya probably knew that already !! ;)

  • There is a version with Ian on vocals. Haven't heard it in years, but I know that Ian's vocals are muffled throughout, and the overall track quality is not nearly as good as the New Order single version.

  • cheers jonafone i left my comment it's neworder downspeeded on reel.

  • this is just new order 7" slowed .

  • the rpm is out of time & this is the 7" single by neworder slowed down

  • it makes it sound more joy divisiony that way i think, lol i like this version i have this on my mp3 from ages ago, cant rememebr where i got it from its a rare version of it, one of the first new order efforts

  • Comment removed

  • One of the greatest song in history of music!

  • This sounds like the version thats the first song on the New Order greatest hits. Its song #1. This song was recorded live by Joy Division at their last show though. I believe its available on CD and vinyl, but i forget the name.

  • i seriously cannot find this version. its really irritating. what cd was it released on?? anything??

  • i don't know..jus downloadd it some years ago from somewhere.i forgot the website.anyways, you can try google and search for it.

  • they never got the chance to record it,this version is new order with sumners voice slowed down, there is a couple of live recordings knockin about, one of them is on still

  • it was released on the Substance album for both the Joy Division and New Order.

  • downlaod ares its on there

  • This is the 7 inche release version isn't it? whoever got it from vinyl probably didn't have the right rpms set.

  • honestly, i don't know..i jus downloadd this frm somwhere..but personally, i think the slow version is better than the original.

  • no its similaiur though, the soudns clearer this is the like, prototype of the 7 inch id say lol, just ahve to download it i dont think its on any cd.

  • What's with the slow motion? Bernard sounds heavily stoned.

  • it just the way it is..and i find this version much better than the original.

  • Thanx for clarifying that. They sound very Joy Division, which is good. Raw sound.

  • no problemo karziflora ..

  • ian never sang this song it was one of the last songs he wrote, it was new orders first official release, bernand just sung his out out and tried to sound like ian.

  • Ian sang it live on more than 1 occasion.

  • No, only ONE occasion, their last show on May 2nd, 1980. They did a soundcheck which was also recorded and subsequently bootlegged, but there's only one live performance by Joy Division.

  • This version is, without a doubt, the closest to the spirit of the lyrics, great post!

  • listen to New Order Ceremony By cuteex

  • Yes, and then you'll realise that this is just a slowed down rendering of that version.

  • wasnt the track slowed down a bit to sound more baritone, because the original release doesn't sound like this. (whoever edited it because it wasn't New Order who did it.

  • i actually don't know how this version came to be,jus got it from limewire and i got stuck listening to it most of the time.

  • Great Video! Anyone know if this version is available to buy (CD, MP3, heck, even vinyl!) I really like it - almost better than the other versions - it really brings out the music. I've done the usual searches, but only turn up the "standard" versions by New Order and Joy Division. Any help much appreciated!

  • thanks..and i agree, this version is much better than the others..try using limewire..

  • Demais *___*

Ian curtis para sempre (forever), joy division para sempre (forever)...

  • Yes, this is the New Order version. They released it as a single after Ian's suicide, although it was performed by Joy Division live. Still superb though.

  • Hang on - isn't this the New Order version?

  • actually, i'm not sure if this version of ceremony is from joy division or new order.i just liked the tempo of this version.

  • This is New Order. Bernard sumner is singing not Ian Curtis

  • that sounds like ian though

  • In Movement New Order's first album. Bernard Sumner attempted to mimic Ian Curtis singing, but failed. Thats why it sounds like Ian Curtis.

Bernard Sumner actually attempted to deepen his voice like Ian Curtis, but fans didnt seem for it to sound right. I hope that clears it up for you MrZZiZZler

  • Why thank you Noggtroll, lol i dont think its sounds bad though

  • This is a slow down version though, that's why it confuses people. The correct pitch version sounds more like Bernard Sumner.

  • hmm,that explains why..

  • It confused me too. But is it the version with Gillian Gilbert on guitar or is it the original version slowed down?

    Anyone knows?

  • This is the version WITHOUT Gillian Gilbert, but what you hear here is not played at normal speed making the voice much deeper than it really is.

  • I really like the video with all the black and white pictures. Very classic! I absolutely love this song and I think you did a great job, especially the close up on the guitars and drums in the beginning go well with the song. The only thing I slightly dislike are the pictures that are smaller, so you get to see black edges, but that's not your fault and I'm a horrible perfectionist. Nonetheless, you did very well, because I hate watching slideshows, but I honestly enjoyed this! Thank you! <3

  • you're welcome! i feel the same way about the small pics, its just unfortunate that my source of joy division pics is a bit limited.anyways, thanks for posting your comment here..your feedback is highly appreciated :)
