  • Very enjoyable thank you

  • The costumes in this film are really beautiful and look sort of contempary, especially the black gown.Sofia coppola and the crew did a brilliant job and if people are going to criticize this film, they should look up somthing called artistic licence

  • really informative and interesting

  • What a load of crap. I can't stand her.

  • not bad!

  • this is beautiful, I really like Annie's works

  • Gorgeous!

  • the woman can control a shoot.

  • MUY BUENO. :-)

  • Canon 5D Mark II, 24-105mm lens

  • Last scene has some masonry elements.

  • shocks!! one of the best photo shoot I've seen..nice!!

  • A lot of work. Kirsten Dunst seems so sweet.

  • lol

  • She is a hag.

  • she has the most surreal lightings for her photos...WOOOW! 2:38

  • Beautiful

  • i went to her exhibition in sydney today. was awesome

  • Annie kept referring to Kirsten Dunst as Kristen!! Geez,as amazing as you are, you should make an effort to remember the name of the people you're working with! No excuse!!

  • @DramaticallyAbbie Actually she was saying kirsten.....get over yourself

  • Great work, Annie, I like you !

  • Beautiful.

  • I liked it only coz I couldn't LOVE IT!

  • I love her work. One of my favs.

    Annie fans...add me on FB

    facebook(dot)com/phil.alamo

  • That was therapy for the eyes... among MANY other POSITIVELY BEAUTIFUL things. Thank you for sharing.

  • I loved the costumes in this movie and how they proved to the world JUST HOW AMAZING the 18th century was. HOWEVER, the speech and the music was just too modern for me. It was creatively lazy. They COULD have used something close enough to the way they used to speak to at least give a SENSE of history, and used slightly more classy music. But they didnt.....but i still do love the costumes. You cant get those at a halloween store!

  • @snakedemon11 Is that a joke? Lazy? How is her creativity and subtle emotion lazy? And shoegaze and new wave music is real music, unlike 99% of what is played on the radio.

  • I like the way she directs and cheer up herself, she transmit that emotion to the characters

  • Well, she has good talent in scene and postpro, but everybody crush when you go ahead and your current account go down, and finally she had to sell his rights. Popular digital business don't believe in photographers or another kind of artist that can show in one static paper, more than 1:30h of a film. They think that your work it isn't valued. From outside everything is amazing and you can think "great Annie", but the reality is other.

A the end, everything finish with: "Collaborative?" Bah!!

  • The role of the photographer is to construct that vision that no one else sees. Her retouchers (Box Studios presumably) merely realize her vision, a vision that is often not possible in reality.

Masterful photographers like Annie are praised for their IDEAS in designing that perfect photograph. Not so much in producing that final copy that goes into the magazine. That refinement is the work of retouchers.

  • Annie Leibovitz is the master

  • Comprehension...

    A passion to convey...

    Striking feeling of...

    Luxurious, silky & lavish...

    Her eyes performed countless miracles...

    Grasp strength...

    Power to spin dreams...

  • It is easy to make that pictures when you have an arsenal of assistance , make up artists etc etc ! And yes when you have a professionist who edit your pictures ! I don't say about the best conditions and the best cameras ! Who said she just push the button is right ! Jerry Ghionis is the greatest !

  • LOVE GRACE ON THE BACKGROUND!!!!

  • Wow that photo turned out looking like an actual 18th century painting^^

  • I am currently in college for photography and just want to say wow, she is unreal... and just to say, yes photoshop is a great tool for photographers to use these days, but if your lighting, and your shot isn't impeccable to begin with no amount of photoshop in the world can fix your photo. So props to her and her team !

  • there's lot of photoshop in these pics

  • @llss882

So what!? You don't think people used to edit their pictures when they shot 35mm film?

  • @HaasGrotesk just some minor changes are acceptable..when you give your photos to an external vendor for a radical post production, completing changing your image, i think the real artist is the guy working wtih photosshop and not the photographer..i've seen original shoots of Annie and let me say, they dont say anything..

Leiboviz=undistinguished photos, heavy postproduction (made by others....).

    CartierBresson=masterpiece photo, minimal "handmade" editing.

    that's wat i mean

  • @llss882

Well then you are right! As recent as today I took such a dull photo that really sucked but made it really good with the help of Photoshop. I don't know. I like the look of heavy post produced photos. I like Leibovitz photos but it's a bit disappointing that she doesn't post process herself.

Cartier Bresson is an art of it's own!

  • @llss882 Wait? Are you saying those vivid colours and flawless faces are the work of post production? Not Annie's photography skills?

Like some of these pictures have beautiful lighting.... are you implying that they were aided with photoshop? If they are... I am so disappointed.. =(

  • @NinkaPanda exactly...is impossible to have the same annie's effect without computer editing...have you ever seen annie's film pictures without retouching? much much better and evocative.

  • @llss882 It's a collaborative work, but for many images, such as the Marie Antoinette Vogue shoot, the primary artist is the photographer. What happens when you retouch bad photography? You get decent photography. What happens when you retouch exceptional photography? You get a masterpiece.

There ARE cases where the retoucher becomes the primary artist, but not so much here.

  • Right. This is the American Liberal Elite at it's worst...aren't they all such "artistes"...

  • i love a Grace....

  • she cares, she cares. i think this is over estimated, like when your model is kirsten dunst (was it?:) ) and you've such amazing sets and kick ass stylist. point and shoot. I guess i'm saying i think her portraiture requires a lot more skill and tact.

  • Anna!

  • annie is a genious!!!!!

  • This woman takes some amazing photos!

  • What a cool idea - posing contemporary subjects to imitate familiar works of art. - not new of course- but would be fun to try to do .

  • Responder a este vídeo...

  • oh so thats how they did it, its my desktop bg!

  • she's amazing

  • anna wintour said the same about mario testino... she is all fake.

  • somebody know the soprano name?

  • American Vogue sucks compared to the other Vogue's. Italian, Austrailian, french, German and English are far better magazines. Annie Wottabitch is a cunt!

  • @bladrunner6 wottabitch! LMAO! ahaha,, why would you say that though? not that im against you but im curious to know - i don't know what american vogue is like, i only have read british vogue...

  • @FuturisticXXL I'm refering to Anna Wintour, the editor and chief of America Vouge. Merryl Streep's role in The devil wears prada is based on her. Have you seen The September issue? (It's probably on Youtube) its a documentary about her and American Vogue. She's ruthless. She's actually British. Watch it and all will be revealed...

  • @FuturisticXXL sorry about the spelling mistakes in my last message, i'm just about to go out and rushing lol

  • i love the dress..all of them especially the last one..pink.. amazing..!!!

  • Boardline photography? because of a nude 15 year old? She looked like a child in the shoot? wasn't that the whole point? Miley to me looked like a little girl in a blanket?

  • i love how the lines on the dress and floor contrast in that last shot.

  • what's with the wonder woman link? lol

  • I never thought of any of this when I visited Versailles.

  • You know. I will never be half the photographer she is, but I can't help but be a bit bored by Leibovitz. Her work is becoming stale and quite frankly uninspired.

The poses and compositions are formulaic and the only reason we are so impressed is because she placates to a Renaissance aesthetic which is about 300 years out-dated. But worst of all she doesn't say anything about her subjects individually. They are just "striking images" of famous people. *yawn*

  • Yeah, I think you're right. She has hands on that many professional gear. Everytime the same setup - big octabox, some head- and rimlights... I bow to her for her lifework, but...

For me it's more exciting to get good results with a small middle-proced equipment. There are a lot of photogs who would get the same pictures with this gear, the big team and not to forget the famous people.

    Just my two cents... ;-)

  • I found this a quite meaningless quest.

  • Annie Leibovitz and Miley Cyrus and the famous ho shot..huge mistake for Leibovitz taking a photo like that of a 15 year old girl.,....shame shame shame

  • Its not shameful only to perverted mids..lol

  • @acybersleuth66 I think you have to be pretty dirty to see that image as anything perverse....

  • @nametroubles

Since, we are thinking here,I think you would have to be a pretty crappy parent to allow someone to take a bunch of risqué and/or suggestive photos of a 15 year old girl in the fashion that Leibovitz did.

  • @acybersleuth66 it was innocent and artistic. Give me a break.

  • Annie Leibovitz photgraphed a farce. She is a victim of director Copolla who chose to portray Marie Antonette in a manner which is not based on actual history, they both know nothing about French history or culture. Genius? I think not.

  • She isn't a historian, she is a photographer who is getting paid to do a shoot for a movie. Lighten up!

  • I agree, but I think Sophia was trying to give Marie Antoinette more of a Clueless kinda look...

  • Ya know, she wasn't making a history channel documentary. Don't be such a snob. I bet you didn't criticize the physics in whatever scifi movie you watched last.

  • I wish I could do photoshoots like this for my music and fashion stufff...WOW she's good!!!

  • what does she mean when she says " i'm going to another format"?

    what is a format?

  • You can take photographs in different formats...meaing you can shoot in what they call "raw", you can shoot in Jpeg, ect...but I'm sure that whatever she shoots in is super-duper high tech!

  • Its at all not about jpeg or raw!!.. I guarantee she is not shooting JPEG for high-end work like this...format means camera (neg/sensor)formats...In this clip she is seen using two formats...at 0:19 she is shooting with a medium format mamiya RZ 6x7 with with a polaroid back, then she is shooting with a full frame 35mm DLSR...(in this case a Canon 1DsMkii) then she switches again to the Mamiya 6x7. She is shooting color neg (film) with the RZ after checking exposure etc with the Polaroid back.

  • My mistake...I just misunderstood from the person whom I got the information from

  • No problem...sorry I didnt mean to come across as chastising you...I should have left out the exclamation marks...

  • LOL! Its no problem!

  • Paolo Pizzetti will win.

  • the historic photo shoot is an art form

  • Please, your mocking a genius.

  • Please, ..you must be an idiot, only the truth was told.

And, if you cant handle the truth you shouldnt be here.

    .

  • why wouldn't she be proud of that shot?

it was fucking gorgeous...the problem was that miley's fanbase is too young to understand it & the photo got a bad rep from the mainstream because miley is, mainstream.

  • Gorgeous? .maybe more correctly......borderline pornography...

One should take into account ones age when doing a photo shoot like that...

But then maybe youre okay with someone taking near nude photos of underage girls?

    .

  • It was in no way near nude, or pornography..she was completely covered and her parents were on set the whole time. If you appreciate photography you know that shot was beautiful...as Annie said, miley was ready to take that shot, her fans weren't..

  • Sorry (Fresh-feces) that is incorrect,..her father left her there after only a few minutes discussing the,.. shot

And even though Miley said she was ready...she was a minor.....15 years old....

    Get a clue, dolt

    .

  • is she related to franz lebowitz

  • People really under-estimate how much skill and talent it takes to make an amazing photo.

Not just a lot of technical knowledge, but a very good artistic mind.

You could give your average joe a $5000 camera, and they just wouldn't be able to snap pictures that are as beautiful and stylistic as the pros.

  • thats true (robopencil)...its never about the gear...its all about vision and handling the dynamics of the situation at hand and having the stuff it takes to deliver under pressure. This is very demanding world and and thousands of talented (some even more talented than Annie) dont make it because they cant handle the dynamics of the business and what is demanded of them...

  • i'd love to be a pro photographer.

  • Yes, Ann Wintour..., Annie cares about her work, but she's now $24 M in debt! No budgets? HELLO!

  • a ga ga ga ga ga ga gaH!

  • turns out AL was a big, fat spendthrift just like M-A

  • wow photo shoots take more works that I ever thought.

  • yes they do. and lots of planning and problems too.

  • Definetly have an admiration for photography. It is a beautiful art however it doesnt just happen lol.

  • How many formats does she actually use and why.. She is using 35mm, medium and large format.. ..damn.

  • she actually just started using digital in the last 2-3 years and did everything with film up until then.

  • that is Vivienne Westwood. that is soo amazing isn't it? I would have died to be on that shoot or just working on that movie set.

  • at 0;42, the woman by the window, is that Vivienne Westwood?

  • No, it's Grace Coddington- Vogue's creative director.

  • So amazing! The photo's are stunning! I love the 1700s in france...ware everyware else things were dull they were amazing!

  • Anna, in the end of the video, has to tell herself THREE TIMES that Leibovitz is worth the money! She's not very convincing...

  • this photo shoot must cost a fortune i mean anna admitted herself. just the talent that was involved in the shoot. amazing. wheres the rest of the interview with anna?

  • She did a fantastic job.

  • annie leibovitz? I like her.

  • it's MarIE Antoinette ;)

  • Oh my God, those strobes sounds like bombs
