  • nice trap workout

  • MINECRAFT!

  • yates row...? aka bent over row where you dont bend over?

  • Your facial expressions make it look like you are watching a slideshow that alternates between lolcat pictures and holocaust images.

  • Why The Yates Barbell Row Sucks

    rookiejournal . com / why-the-yates-row-sucks

  • oh lawd im so jealous

  • Good work, the pause at full contraction is very tough, but shows youre controlling the weight. Well played.

  • There is no fucking exercise called the yates row... It's just what DY did when the weights were insanely heavy achieving lesser shoulder extension because his back wasn't parallel....

The legitimate exercise is known as the Bent over barbell row where the back is very close to parallel to the floor...

  • @ahumikesac It's the Bent-Over Row (BOR) the way Dorian Yates does it. There's also a Pendlay Row, named after Glenn Pendlay. There's also an Arnold Press, named after.. you guessed it.. Arnold.

  • pretty sure Yates goes lower that this on his rows

  • Yates liked the underhand grip.

  • Is this better than bent-over row? What's the difference?

  • @MetaIhead89 its more upright than a bent over. not better or worse, just works the back differently

  • He rows more than I can squat.

  • @m43str0s yeah I need to add the hold at the top to my form.

  • I can't never feel this exercise in my back, never.

  • @happokylpy because you're just lifting with your biceps and triceps, you need to keep your back muscles squeezed the whole time and keep your elbows in tight, ALWAYS squeeze your back muscles as hard as you can doing back exercises or you're wasting your time, that goes for any exercise really

  • There is no frigid Yates row the exercise is called the BARBELL row .... And Yates. Stood too upright ...

  • @solemarc yates row with heavier weight and a more upright posture than regular barbell row.

  • By the way, what's the difference between the yates row and the bend over row.

I can see that your lower back doesn't get so mutch tension as the bend over but is that the only thing.

  • wooow your fucking strong!!

  • Do these work?

  • Comment removed

  • Bra WTF there called BENT OVER rows for a reason.

  • @superrubiksman

read the title of the video again

  • @superrubiksman Bent over row can seriously damage your spinal erector muscles. UNLESS done in perfect form, which not many people do. This safer alternative is favoured as you can rack on the weight and still get the same - if not better benefits :).

  • why are there so may haters!? good work bro

  • nice shrugs

  • @gmanthebeast1 haha i was gonna say the same thing

  • @dman519 dman????hmmmm

  • @gmanthebeast1 I must have missed something.

  • @dman519 dman gman...united together for one cause

  • why dont you man up and slap on that 3rd full plate and bend over further to do it properly?

  • @argarzah First you tell him to add more weight, then you tell him he has poor form. Usually if someones form is poor, it means they need to reduce the weight. Nice work, dipshit.

  • @adammichaelbreen hence the phrase " man up"!! In other words, you're saying that the weight is pussy light and you still have bad form. hahahaha!!!! I'm the dipshit??? ;))

  • @argarzah yates row not bent pendley 2 di shit one for upper and middle one for lower and middle

  • good vid bro, i like your form. poundages are great

  • Yates rows are crap, you can do other, better exercises to hit the muscles it targets.

At least you aren't doing them underhand though.

  • @Brokenscopes Like what bro?

  • @Brokenscopes

have you ever see yates back , i mean when he was bodybuilding..those rows didnt do him anyharm..anyway tell me the better execises..id love to know..

  • I hate it when the only thing these trolls have to say is "you got chicken legs bro" while he doesn't , you see this comment on every vid where a guy is doing some heavy weights... jealousy is a nasty thing eh?

  • Yo are not bent over enough IMO. Sacrafice some weight for proper form

  • @dan13718 fat fuck like you should shut the fuck up!

  • Not hatin, but you are engaging your forearms too much by bending the wrists. In a way it is limiting the stress you can put on the lats.

  • bitch legs

  • Shitty ass rowing.

  • his legs are not skinny it just looks like it from the angle

  • Love how everyone is always so worried about peoples legs in these videos... Has it occurred to anyone that not EVERYBODY considers themselves a "bodybuilder" and some people couldn't give two shits about how their calves look? - Yes, I said it.. some people just want the biceps or chest or abs.. whats wrong with that?

  • @JayLaMarr7 You build a better body if you train your foundation too. The more OVERALL mass you gain the bigger you become. Your legs are almost 50% of your body

  • nice form

  • lol @chicken legs

  • Nice legs man, what do you squat

  • Fact : look at the shoulder when he's pulling the bar up, kinda weird? why the front delts are bigger?

  • yates row is the other grip u fucking idiot.

  • This is more like a fuking shrugs than a row..

  • @HeavilyArmoR3D

Your retarded. Yates rows are supposed to look like this. They are more for your upper back/traps and a lower lat stretch. Its supposed to look like a bent over shrug.

  • is it because of the angle of the video taken making his legs small?

  • if there was a pingpong table in my gym like that id be skinny as hell lol

  • toothpick legs.

    :)

  • fck shit music

  • @kamilek550 Fuck your shit keyboard warrior, no one here gives a fuck about your shitty music taste, just watch the damn video and STFU.

  • @kamilek550 Fucking horrible band they are

  • pss asi o mas erecto, pesima tecnica!!

  • im not trying to criticize or anything but when i do barbell rows i usaully have my back more forward, not so forward that i am parallel to the ground but like a 45 degress arc. Now the way you do it, does it work out your back just the same????or does it workout different muscle groups????? because with your form i believe i can lift much more weight

  • @Body4Life21 YATES row. It's a modified row. It anatomically hits more traps than lats, as well as little details I don't know about.

  • @XizelSF yeah thats what i was thinking, it targets the upper and middle traps mainly

  • Rows w/ Ur back parallel to ground r not good for lowback. 'Yates Rows' r much better. This dude should be a little more forward leaned and a little deeper w/ the bar just past the knees.

  • @cuttzizzle You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

  • what are the benefits to doing rows like this instead of doing rows where your back is parrallel to the ground

  • @deepsquat4ever back parallel to the ground is not even working the lats, it's working lower traps and it puts too much strain on the lower back.

yates style is much better for lats.

  • @p1t3n6

Tell that to Glenn Pendlay. In fact, look him up on Facebook to do it.

  • @deepsquat4ever focus on upper back muscles, between back deltoids, instead of lats

  • now i want to see him dunk that

  • THOSE ARE NOT BENT OVER ROWS!!! AHAHHA wow yer just picking the weight up 6 inches, what an idioth

  • @skeeptar GTUVEW!

  • @skeeptar they're called Yates rows fool. It's a whole different exercise. Check the video on youtube of Dorian Yates working back with Kai Greene and he explains the difference.

  • @bskola or anyone.. can you please give me a bulleted point list of things to be CAUTIOUS off when doing the yates over row? because I hurt my back really badly from an exercise and ever since I've been afraid.. please tell me the common pitfalls and what not to do when doing this particular exercise.. thanks!

  • @cyanidesan 1) Be properly warmed up and stretched. Wear a weightlifting belt if it makes you more sturdy. Make every muscle tight but especially your abs and lower back. Have your feet at shoulder width apart or whatever you feels right, feet slightly pointed out. You don't want to bend over too much because you are pulling to your lower stomach, about 30 degrees. VERY IMPORTANT: keep the bar as close to your body as possible during the pull, almost dragging across your clothes.

  • @cyanidesan 2) Pull to stomach a contract at the top for about a second, focusing the contraction in the middle of your back and lower lats. Slowly lower the bar back into starting position, don't let gravity drop it. You don't have to be completely stationary during this exercise, use a little body english to make the movement feel natural.

  • @BJGally great.. thanks man.. i'll keep these in mind.. also found a video by an awesome guy named scooby who has a lot of points to keep in mind about this particular exercise.. I'm doing my homework.. better be safe than sorry :) your tips are much appreciated. thanks again!

  • There is nothing impressive about lifting a lot of weight on barbell row with poor form. Leaning forward is how the actual lift is supposed to be performed. When learn forward it activates the muscles of your back. When you stand almost straight up like he is, it is pretty much every muscle naturally responding to protecting yourself from an injury. Form in lifting does matter for all you un-athletic and/or uneducated folk. Lifting heavy with shit form does nothing for you, just for youtube.

  • better form then a lot of other "heavy barbell rows" on youtube.

  • A lot of haters. The guy looked like he was in good shape. Who really cares what he can lift or how he does it if he's getting the body he wants from it.

I thought traditionally a yates row was a more upright row as showed above but with an underhand type grip to hit the lower lats a little better.

  • A couple of suggestions: First of all, nice poundage! But you have to watch your form man! A real row is considered when your back is at least parallel or slightly above parallel to the floor! What you're doing is a shrugging row. Think about how a seated row is done, and then mimic the same movement with the barbell row!

  • nice upright rows

  • zero quads

  • @loveschicken zero quads...look at his squatting videos and realize how stupid you sound

  • @toothspic2 I guess hes strong but un-proportional making it look like he has no legs

  • u guys do know he is doing those perfectly thats gonna blast his lats and bring out extreme thickness to em

  • try rows next time

  • Wow, this guy can row more than I can deadlift.

  • legs and back is all u really need

  • beastmode...nice

  • has anyone seen yates lately he has a average looking body now. Guess thats what happens when you get off steroids

  • @blewismtz More so that's what happens when you stop training and eating calories needed to support that much muscle mass. Muscle catabolism :)

  • holy shit! awesome control.. when you hold up the weight in beginning strong!

  • holy shit this is creepy as shit, i listening to my itunes and i couldnt hear the video and didnt pay attention, so i turned of my music and replayed it and guess wat it was the same song. Creeeepy, btw awesome vid

  • This is a majorly strong guy...to hold the static like that with that weight is something we should all strive to achieve...

  • how long have you been training for bud?

  • i love how everyone is saying how this is not "hitting the lats, it hits the traps, its bad form..."

    - where does he says hes doing a good lat isolation movement

    - look at how he makes a big chest at the top, thats scapular retraction (the function of the traps), and it looks pretty intentional

-since he called this video a yates row, its PERFECT FORM

  • THIS IS NOT ROW, IT'S MORE EXERCISE FOR TRAPS!

  • @mrki69tua A 45 degree angle with a slight arch in the back is actually far better at targetting the lats. Dorian Yates? Monster back? He preaches that 45 degree angle and his back is crazy...

  • I'm above the influence and I can shrug 700

  • @13andincrediblycut I bet you're a 300 pound pile of peadophile shit...stop living a false existence and do something about the fact that you truly look like shiite mofo!

  • nice kid get some. GET SOOOOOOOOOOOME AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

  • I'm 13 and above the influence and I can do 400 like that as well.

  • @13andincrediblycut here we go again. 13andincrediblycut lies about himself once again.

  • @bench595 Unfortunately for the last time he 'disabled' his account, then made another which got taken off by youtube! Finally the troll as stopped fucking with youtube.

  • Nothing too impressive.

  • Shitty music.

  • Nice ping pong table, how many sets? :P

  • more like an upper back, trap excersize

  • Awesome form bro. Controlled and powerful !!

  • perfect form man!! awesome

  • i hate when people use wraps and gloves, but I respect that hes controlling the weight and getting good reps

  • Nice dude thats clean i never do it over hand b/c i just keep cheating but you had full Control damn dude gratz keep it up

  • I was just wondering, what does your diet consist of?

  • why are your legs so skinny bro?

  • @keirs12 Not sure, but he can squat 455+.. size does not = strength.

  • @keirs12 Does it even matter why they're skinny? The size of your legs have nothing to do with how much you can leg press/squat........or even row

  • @keirs12 there not lol, he wears really baggy shorts

  • @keirs12 check hs 24 plate leg press for 6

  • @keirs12 check his 24 plate leg press for 6

  • @keirs12

    did anyone ask arny that?

  • @sk8erssg7 arnie lehs wasnt skinny. they actually are compared to nowadays pros, but back in his days his prpoportions where just perfect. your legs are skinny compared to a person that never lifted wheights man.

  • @keirs12 this vid is from 2006 check his some more recent ones he has big legs now

  • @keirs12 You can see through his shorts? Amazing...

  • @keirs12 holy shit indeed, damn ..

  • @keirs12 It's called chicken leg syndrome. It's where a weightlifter focuses on the upper body and completely ignores the lower body.

  • I think those are Pendlay, not Yates rows. Yates rows have an underhand grip and hit your biceps more than Pendlay rows. Pendlay rows are overhand.

  • @TheoMurpse Yates changed his barbell rows to overhand after he tore his bicep in 1994.

  • @DefensiveTackle94 In that case, what's the difference between a Pendlay and a Yates row? Pendlays are traditionally overhand and Yates underhand.

  • @TheoMurpse pendlay rows are pulled from the floor at a 90 degree angle, placing the weight on the floor between reps. yates rows are upright like in this video. grip has nothing to do with it

  • Well done buddy

  • dude his upper body is huge but I just couldn't help but notice that his legs were super small in comparison.

  • he's obviously gotten results from what he's doing

  • Wow Very nicely done .. handsome u are as well...

  • I can... sorta do that... not really. wow dude.

  • wow watching this video makes me feel like a panzy using 35lb weights on both side of the bar.. my back is the slowest progress on me

  • stop sledging him form, as far as a YATES ROW (title of the fucking video) it is perfect form, so google the yates row before you started being a know it all little shit about lifting, and we all know that it's just jealously anyway.

  • I don't know, I'd bend over a bit more though...really hit the lats, this seems to be working more of the upper back:traps, etc. I row underhand and overhand and to the belly button. wide gripped and close gripped. it works. but if this style here on the video works for others, then so be it and just keep on lifting, working out.

  • if you watch blood and guts, which i hav on vhs, youll see yates is very upright and the bar travels in a vertical path, not pulled to the back, its more like a shrug, which works more trap and upper middle lat

  • Those who are saying that he is not doing a row are showing their ignorance. He is doing a Yates style row and he is doing it correctly.

  • @computermagicjack the grip should be supinated for a proper Yates row.

  • @computermagicjack No he's not. The grip should be supinated.

  • What the fuck does that do.

  • holy shit

  • Good job man. I've barely started deadlifting those amounts yet.

  • @anglicantian these are Yates bent rows, not deads

  • @danielcugliari

Yes, I know, I was simply stating that the amounts he uses to do rows with, I have barely begun deadlifting yet.

  • whoever said it looks like shrugs...get a clue. nice job man ur hella strong

  • Nice strength man.. You and I are at about the same strength

  • very strong nice job

  • I do 405x5 :)

  • @ItalianWarrior777 You did no such thing you stupid fucking wop dago greaseball.

  • @ChristPuncher420 fuck you! You are just jealous you weak motherfucker!

  • @ItalianWarrior777 I do 405x6 I beat u mothafucka

  • Yates didn't create this exercise, I can't stand that it's called that.

They're fucking barbell rows with a more upright stance.

....after reading that, I take that back, Yates rows sound better..

  • look like shrugs

  • thats not dorian yates...

  • @yousirareGay he means he is dong the Dorian Ytes Row. i think.

  • Excellent Form bro

  • prolly cant squat 400 with those bird legs
