John has so many equips and I can see all are high-end ones. However he becomes a slave of his equipments not the master of them. Rick's full-auto .45 has some serious problem. I doubt it is the magazine. Short-stroke usually has something to do with the gas system. There must be some leaking somewhere. Check the gas port and block first. Chopper on the hand uses simple but reliable weapons (SKS, Ruger ... ), they never jam, and with his handling, I believe they are highly lethal in real combat.

80lbs of gear on a 20 mile hump is not unheard of. My basic load out was well over 50lbs. If we knew we were going out more then a day it was more around 90. Not out plinking and running around for fun but 180 rounds? I have to agree with Rick on the cartridge choice but I would stop at 6.8 SPC for a carbine. The weight is not so bad versus the improved stopping power. The weight of 5.56 is about 4.5lbs/150 rounds and for 6.8SPC is around 5.75lbs/150 rounds. The 1.25 lbs is not critical IMHO if if means the bad guy will fall sooner. The 6.8 SPC is found to have an flat trajectory comparable to the .308 Winchester/7.62 NATO as well. It's just too darn expensive right now because the military is not on board.
