can someone who has been to afghanistan, iraq or served anywhere with the british infantry, or is in the infantry pelase answer a question for me. i am starting basic training on march 26th as a combat medical technician and i was wondering if i would do a infantrymans job and then my trade if it is needed on the ground or would i be stuck in a camp hospital for the whole tour?

@BeTheBe5t depends where your needed but as a 'COMBAT' medical technician you'd probs end up with the infantry somewhere. How about you just join the infantry and do the CMT course, that way you get the best of both worlds. Anyway, get afghan out of your head because it isn't guaranteed you'll go there.

I'm Canadian but have family in the UK .

My Granddad was a WW1 vet was in the trenches in France at 17 years old, when the war ended he came to Canada and joined the Army here.

He retired 8 days before Canada joined the UK in WW2 and was recalled but was to old for combat and due to wounds in WW1.

He was the regimental Sgt. Major in the Royal Canadian Regiment .
