  • @betteberry...I stand corrected on the date of release, thank you for the correction. I just think to say Quincy carried over the sound from Off the Wall the Masterjam is a stretch given songs like "Ben" "Got To Be There" "Rockin Robin" and Dancin Machine have NOTHING to do with the funk and soul of "Any Love" "Masterjam" "Do You Love What You Feel" and "Live In Me" . Off the Wall is pure R&B Pop, Rufus was straight up RB&B FUNK !!!!! But your right we can all draw our own conclusions.......

  • I absolutely love Chaka Khan, too bad she couldn't dance though!

  • @garyda1 well, no she doesn't dance, SHE JAMS & GROOVES, let's the music take her to wherever. Those who tend to dance and be choreography completely lack in vocal power, especially LIVE!

  • @MarqueeTee I totally agree, she is a real Diva!

  • This dat jam right here!

  • Of course...I DO think that this particular song does feature one of Chaka's best INDIVIDUAL performances ever captured on record. It's a bit "disco-ey", but Quincy Jones aural sheen is all over this one. This one of those songs where if you listen through a good pair of headphones with surround sound option turned on you can actually hear the music sparkling.

  • I've gotta weigh in on this. Rufus didn't do any BAD records, but this one was a'ight at best. As others have mentioned, the Q/Tempterton were getting on a roll, but given all of the great albums they did during that period ('79-'81: "Off the Wall", "Light Up The Night", "Give Me the Night", "The Dude" & Patti Austin's album ), this was the weakest one. For MY money, the GRAY ALBUM ("Ask Rufus") is their masterpiece. Every song on that albums STILL stands up well.

  • This song takes me back. This was 1 of my Moms favorites. She used to play this while getting dressed to go clubbing when I was a kid. & I still follow tradition I play it b4 I go clubbing now!! Great dance tune by Rufus & Chaka!!!

  • Personally, Masterjam one of my all time favorite records. Quincy, the sound, studio players, writers (Rod Temperton, ect.) all totally carried over to "Off The Wall". Magical. Even Bobby Watson bass sliding on Rock With You. Believe it or not (1) I saw Rufus touring this record, 3 nights SF Bay area, night #2 Chaka came into the crowd and sat on my lap, (2) I was living in Shanghai 2007, ran into Quincy at the Portman Hotel, all I could talk about was Masterjam. Thanks BLAQUEMUSCLE for posting

  • @gtancer Masterjam, not their best commercially, but it's a very clean production and typical of Q. I like it, a sort of different sound for Rufus, but moving into another era (unfortunately inner band personality issues). Off The Wall and Masterjam are very identical in Q's production, very clean and tight. But for radio, etc at the time, maybe singers were on top vs bands/groups.

  • @gtancer Music was changing as it does every 5 years. The albums are so close, both should have toured together in promo spots support each other. But, MJ launching a huge solo career, and internal problems with Rufus and record labels, etc....My first all time Rufus album is ask Rufus, 2nd is Masterjam :-)

  • off the hook vocal performance - I could not help but create a long version remix - i needed more - i could hear chaka sing all night

  • ...Any time yi yi yi, you use her, you lose her...

  • Mr.Bertiep.....Quicey didn't carry over The Off The Wall Sound to the Masterjam album for Rufus, as Masterjam (With Any Love) was released in Aug 1978 and Off The Wall was released in Nov. 1979. Just and FYI from an true old schooler who was there thru all the 70's going to these concerts.

  • @Seashelldiver MASTERJAM was released November 30, 1978 . OFF THE WALL was released August 10, 1979 . However it was recorded December 1978–June 1979.

  • @Seashelldiver Masterjam actually released Nov of 1979. So that is the true date of release of the album. We can all draw our own conclusions as to who influenced what.

  • it better have 0 dislikes

  • I always thought this was one of Chaka with Rufus BEST if not the Best upbeat song of that era..Masterjam was a masterpiece and really showcase Chaka as a force in the band. it went from Rufus to Rufus featuring Chaka.Khan. to Rufus and Chaka..they made a final Lp..their Last big hit together was Aint Nobody..but theres a song on you tube calle One Million Kisses..which reminds you a lot of this song Any Love. I believe its the same writers..check out One Million Kisses. Rufus and Chaka.

  • I've never heard this jam before, but, it's AWESOME!!

    Thanks for posting.:)

  • cant do no wrong!!

  • Quincy was responsible for producing some great music but his efforts with Rufus just didn't do the group justice. After the band had contributed so much to MJ's "Off the Wall" record, Quincy carried over that sound to this record. Rufus was always better when they had that edge to there sound. There's no BAD Rufus I just don't think this record was true to their sound.

  • @MrBertiep MASTERJAM is one of RUFUS/CHAKA KHAN's BEST EFFORTS as a group ! The only down side if there is one are the 2 songs TONY MAIDEN sings WALK THE ROCKWAY & I'M DANCING FOR YOUR LOVE ! Their sound was allways about HER VOICE !

  • The original version if FIYAHHH! All other imitators don't even come close to Chaka's incredible vocals and the musical arrangement is on point as well. DJ Dimitri From Paris did a really good re-edit of the original version that brings new life to this dancefloor classic

  • divine track

  • Rufus is a super cool dude as well. Very cool.

  • There is no one name Rufus in the group...it is the name of the group.

  • Chaka is super sexy talented Dynamite. I love everything about her. Thank you. Great music.

  • ssoooooo fierce oh my word

  • A CLASSIC MASTERPIECE THAT HOUSE MUSIC BEGAN AND ENDS

  • the singing is awesome, but the hair and grace outshines her singing to me. she was and still is bad. it makes me proud to be natural. tooo bad i was born 10 yrs later. oh well i love rufus and chaka khan

  • Any Looovvvvveeeeeee, that you feel, Is real. :D

  • masterpiece!

  • i remmember a cool song with this letter and beat ! but i think is more house music ! the part more used of music is like 0.35 to 0.55 and 2.00 to 2.14

anyone knows some remix like this??

and thanks for the original, i find it on the gta iv k109 radio ! lol

  • @calistofox Soul Avangerz - Love You Feel / it is really a wonderful cover... but so underrated

  • This is one of my favorite "Wall of Chakas" tracks. Her background vocals on this are a thing of wonder. Who else comes up with those harmonies? Ain' t nobody but Chaka

  • Anytime that you use her you loose her Chaka Khan was so spiritual

  • Back in the day, they had wigs like Chaka's hair. Damn, I wish I had of kept mine

  • i don't care if she's lipsynching, the song is still the bomb.

  • @Group51 I don't think so ! The cover has no FIRE or CHAKA KHAN !

  • @BLAQUEMUSCLE I agree with ya. It's one thing watching a video but listening to the original vinyl version, which I haven't heard for years, just used to blow my mind.

  • @Group51 YOU MUST BE OUT OF YOUR DAM MIND!!!!!!! THE REMIX SOUNDS STIFF WITH NO FLAVOR! REMIX HAS NO SOUL!!

  • @Group51 I checked out DJ Meme's version after seeing your comment here. The vocalist on it (Rachel Claudio) is surprisingly poor, you don't even have to listen very closely to hear the autotune.

  • Classic Chaka Khan. Love this cut. I have the extended club version from one of the Dimitri From Paris CD's that I got on Amazon. I may have gotten Master Jam from Amazon or Ebay. Ebay got a lot of hard to find shyt.

  • sorry, I have to correct that. Just checked my collection. This cut is actually on Franqois K, Choice: A Collection of Classics. I did get this on from Amazon and has some other club cuts on it from Colonel Abrams and Donald Byrd, as well as this one, to name a few.

  • I Have The Camouflage I bought as an Japaneese import and it was not cheap, but it's worth it!

  • Based on the lyrics I'm wondering if "HAWK" wrote this one. I don't have my album in front of me. He always was so deep and intense. "Paradise into bitter tears, price you pay for all these years" WOW!!!!! Now that is heartfelt songwriting. Quincy Jones, David "Hawk" Wolinski and Chaka Khan. That's what I call a combo.

  • @iluvmyboba Yes, Hawk Wolinski wrote this one.

  • yep, hawk is responsible for wrting this one.....i had the "masterjam" lp for many years, and it's one of the best songs from it!

  • Very good song indeed. I'm looking for the Masterjam record on CD. Never came out on cd. Mayby in the future? Would be awesome.

  • MASTERJAM is on CD , check AMAZON, EBAY & CDUNIVERSE !

  • The only Rufus CD I haven't seen on CD is "Camouflage."

  • Actually as was mentioned below, Masterjam is available on CD and was first released in 1990 or perhaps it was 1993(would have to check my disc). As far as I know it is still in print and readily available via most music outlets and ebay for sure.

  • @iljin Masterjam's been out on CD for years now, i know cuz' i've got . I pretty much have all Rufus and Chaka (solo included) on CD and vinyl. All but "Camouflage" (mca-5270) which is a hard one to track down. thankfully i do have the original vinyl pressing (lol)

  • @iljin its on amazon but expensive

  • @iljin Umm it is on CD. I own it!! Check on Amazon for it! Expect to pay a pretty penny though!

  • This is outstanding!!! Now all I need is a live performance of Heaven Bound. My uncle bought me this album when I was 14. I'm 36 and still have it ...in my house! LOL

  • fave Chaka song.

  • Absolute awesome classic _o/ thanks from Paris !

  • that's a classic!!

  • Sometimes artists would sing live on Soul Train. Isley Brothers singing 'Don't Change' on Soul Train.

  • sa c un putin de son ki dechire vraiment magnifique

  • THIS IS F@#CIN MUSIC!!!!!!

  • Love love LOVE this song; I have it on every playlist on my ipod!

  • This song prompted Q as in Quincey Jones to comment that this & Ain't Nobody By R& C were the two most perfect songs to date @ that time.

  • In the 70's LIP-SYNCHING was common practice, unless is was THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL or DON KIRCHNER'S ROCK CONCERT !

  • this was the song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • This was the most disco song Rufus and Chaka ever did. It doesnt get played as much as their other material.

  • too bad she is lip-syncing...I bet she would have killed it even MORE if it were live.

  • Clips like this have rekindled my infatuation with Chaka. she was one hottie back then.

  • She's funky, smooth, and full of life. Soul music for the soul. She set the standard. I love u chaka!

  • Number one voice , rythm, and style of all songs. I've been dreaming of hitting those notes. Love you Chaka

  • Perfect!!

  • LOOK AT THE CHAKA MANE!!!!

  • I love those sultry low notes in the begining. This is 1 of my alltime favs.

  • mine too~~not on any of the greatest hits collections!!BUT IT IS AWESOME!!

  • This song is one of my favorite RUFUS joints, ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • has a sorta disco feel, am i rite

  • LUV this jam! Chaka rocks!! 10*s =)
