I think the reason they made it a new game is because it looks like it is using a different graphics engine. I honestly prefer L4D 1 to L4D 2 just on preference, but they both are great games. I have about 400 hours on L4D1 and like 60 hours in L4D 2... I really don't like how strong the new infected are. :( In L4D 1 I can do almost an entire level by myself (on a good day), but in L4D 2, I die in 3-5 minutes.

I love L4D2 it's an amazing game and I completely agree with you. I like that they made it a lot harder then the first one it gives you more of a challenge and the new infected are fun to play on verses mode. I all around love L4D and L4D2 there both great and I master at both of them. ^_^
l4d and l4d2 are great. When I went back to l4d1 I had this habituation problem.. where's the spitter ? oh yeah, l4d1. Once that was over I started playing l4d1 as much as I play l4d2. For a total amount of 50/60 hours a week and they just seem to compliment each other regarding the difference in campaigns, zombies and survivors. I don't think ld42 is so much cooler because of the melee weapons, it's cool because of the extra special infected and extra game modes like scavenge and the mutations.

5+ new levels, new characters, new melee system, new dismemberment system (360, PC had it in the first) Scavange mode, realism, 3 new Special infected, New smarter Director. It has more content then the first one so its way past just and expansion.
5 levels that are not that really good. new melee system? it's just hitting the zombies with a fryin pan and a bat.( the dismemberment was sweet, gotta admit that) scavenge it's boring, realism it's boring and everything else you say it's just not that good. Sure, they added some different things but the game itself it's not fun.

I actually enjoyed the sequel a lot more than I did the first, not to say it wasn't amazing. The AI doesn't abandon you as easy, the weapons variety has finally left the 3 small guns and 3 big guns, and went for added on more secondary weapons like the axe and magnum. Personally, I love the new characters. Their personality's are far more believable, and added you do day missions as well. It's, simply put, everything left 4 dead was but a thousand times better. Who would boycott this?

Yeah the melee weapons do give them some abilites to melee spam BUT that is no longer an efficient way play. When people melee spam they also tended to stick in corners and do it which made them untouchable.
Valve has taken countless steps on ending this camping problem, they made gauntlet events, and also brought the charger and spitter in which are built to destroy campers and melee spammers. Not to mention if the whole group has melee weapons and a boomer comes by, what are they going to do?
Well, conclusive with my research here I can now sum up the boycotters in one sentance: A group of people who would have been totally cool with Left 4 Dead 2 if Valve waited seven more years to release it.

Basically Valve are telling you to spend $50 on what they told you was going to be free. They likely accrued sales based on those words.
My opinion is that it's way too late anyway. I haven't interest in playing it now, I've exhausted it. It was good but 4 maps doesn't really give you much sustainable gameplay.
They put out a broken game, like all the developers do these days, wait for the community to find all of the bugs for them at $50 a pop, instead of paying to have employees test it for another 6 weeks and then using this information, they plumb up L4D2. This is unnacceptable. L4D still has many random crash issues and the SDK is woefully lacking in static models. I can appreciate they looked at it and said "this is an entirely new game" but they shouldn'tve put our advice into a new title
sounds like a smart business strategy to me. It is a game after all and not a necessity. You shouldn't be worked up over something like a game. If you want it and have the money buy it. If not then don't buy it. It is that simple. There is no reason to get so upset over something you dont even need.
the SDK alone was promised a "few weeks after release" but it actually didn't come out in it's full version, which is still extremely buggy, for nearly 7 MONTHS. No game developer worth their salt puts out a sequel to any game, whether it is a hit or not, a year after the first release. L4D was essentially a "beta" for L4D2.
there a two types of consumers of Valve's products; those that play, roughly 95% and those that play AND make maps/campaigns. The reason I am boycotting is because I am one of the people that spends more than your 250 hours, grinding out new maps/campaigns for people like you and myself and everyone else to play. New monsters, extra content, weapons and an SDK (Source Developer Kit - make maps and models etc with this) was all promised to the L4D consumers, but instead has all been put into L4D2

I would agree the LFD was pretty sweet. Sadly you can see all of the game in one afternoon of play. The game play is sweet, but even from day one it lacked in content. The main point of the general arguement is that updated content was touted to be included. No such updates have happened. If this was a new game with a new engine and a far greater expansion of content, they would have my money. For now my copy of LFD2 will sit on BestBuy's shelf.

I have L4D on the 360 and I have probably logged 350 hours on this game. I happily bought the Crash course DLC and have enjoyed it a great deal. I think that the $60 I payed for the game new is great value for the money. I also pre ordered L4D2 as soon as I heard it was coming out. Stop the hate people.
If Valve is registered as an American company the wages would be in AmDollars? (Again, I am not sure about this) We (Europeans) paid full price for half a "game". What's happened now after the last "update" with the Crash Course Map is laughable. Serversearch is corrupt and alot of spawn bugs are back in the game. All for what? Two chapters to link the "story" between NoMercy and DeathToll, new Icons and another reason for tweenies to bind character voice spam in console?
In all honesty, I've had my hands full with a new game for the last little while; I haven't played Crash Course yet, so I wasn't aware of any problems that have arisen from it. It's unfortunate that the server-search is corrupt and there's bugs popping up. I'm excited for L4D2, but am in no way saying that they should just abandon the first game, as I enjoy it a lot!

Sound arguments for rethinking the boycott, but I am still not convinced that valve deserves more money from me and here's why;
1. Buying the game on steam takes you to a description page promising DLC much like TF2. They did not fulfill that promise.
2. Cost of L4D1: What they did in europe as the american dollar exchange rate dropped, they switched to Euros to earn more money. (I'm not 100% sure about this, but i think that's illegal. Sales currency have to be in the same currency as wages.)

L4D2 Boycott is almost completely just screaming "WE WANT PUBLICITY!!" I honestly think it's stupid and they aren't at all believable. They just shout it that they want attention.
1. They cry about what no one cares about: Official DLC. Here's the solution to that, ADDONS!

I fully agree with you on this i have predownloaded l4d2 via steam and i can't wait for it to be unlocked, Really it's changed so much other then base fact it's a zombie shooter almost everything has changed inculding the AI and to be fair if it gets me off WOW for afew nights it's worth it.

All the plus points she mentioned were supposed to be in the original game. It's not that $50 is a lot of money.
Basically Valve are telling you to spend $50 on what they told you was going to be free. They likely accrued sales based on those words.
My opinion is that it's way too late anyway. I haven't interest in playing it now, I've exhausted it. It was good but 4 maps doesn't really give you much sustainable gameplay.

I'm not sure. But it's rather likely they will continue to support this title given the backlash after this one.
I'd be surprised if they didn't start with 5 Campaigns in this one.
I meant that having only 4 in the first one isn't very sustainable for my personal taste.

They put out a broken game, like all the developers do these days, wait for the community to find all of the bugs for them at $50 a pop, instead of paying to have employees test it for another 6 weeks and then using this information, they plumb up L4D2. This is unnacceptable. L4D still has many random crash issues and the SDK is woefully lacking in static models. I can appreciate they looked at it and said "this is an entirely new game" but they shouldn'tve put our advice into a new title

sounds like a smart business strategy to me. It is a game after all and not a necessity. You shouldn't be worked up over something like a game. If you want it and have the money buy it. the SDK alone was promised a "few weeks after release" but it actually didn't come out in it's full version, which is still extremely buggy, for nearly 7 MONTHS. No game developer worth their salt puts out a sequel to any game, whether it is a hit or not, a year after the first release. L4D was essentially a "beta" for L4D2.

there a two types of consumers of Valve's products; those that play, roughly 95% and those that play AND make maps/campaigns. The reason I am boycotting is because I am one of the people that spends more than your 250 hours, grinding out new maps/campaigns for people like you and myself and everyone else to play. New monsters, extra content, weapons and an SDK (Source Developer Kit - make maps and models etc with this) was all promised to the L4D consumers, but instead has all been put into L4D2

But what cranks me up is that L4D2 got the world records for pre-sale and it's not even over! The ''boycott'' only got l4d2 more customers. Why is that? Because people who didn't even knew l4d heard of a boycott and checked what was the game and found it awesome, so they bought it. I'd say it's one of the biggest boycott fail of the history of gaming -_-

It isn't enough for a corporation worth many milions to develop their titles, now they expect us to PRE-PAY for them to develop a broken plate, which we pay top dollar for and the monkeys all fall into line. It is lowest-common-denominator economics. So what if tens of thousands of people are pissed? I would agree the LFD was pretty sweet. Sadly you can see all of the game in one afternoon of play. The game play is sweet, but even from day one it lacked in content. The main point of the general arguement is that updated content was touted to be included. No such updates have happened. If this was a new game with a new engine and a far greater expansion of content, they would have my money. For now my copy of LFD2 will sit on BestBuy's shelf.

Your opinions are all very good, except for a few things, which I'm too tired to type out.
But I will, however, point out that the biggest reason for people boycotting L4D2 is that Valve is making yet another game that is outrageously overpriced in the EU area. It is about 70 dollars in the Europe area, which is a LITTLE more than 3 hours of work, don't you think?
Just thought I'd point that out.

I have L4D on the 360 and I have probably logged 350 hours on this game. I happily bought the Crash course DLC and have enjoyed it a great deal. I think that the $60 I payed for the game new is great value for the money. I also pre ordered L4D2 as soon as I heard it was coming out. Stop the hate people.

If Valve is registered as an American company the wages would be in AmDollars? (Again, I am not sure about this) We (Europeans) paid full price for half a "game". What's happened now after the last "update" with the Crash Course Map is laughable. Serversearch is corrupt and alot of spawn bugs are back in the game. All for what? Two chapters to link the "story" between NoMercy and DeathToll, new Icons and another reason for tweenies to bind character voice spam in console?

In all honesty, I've had my hands full with a new game for the last little while; I haven't played Crash Course yet, so I wasn't aware of any problems that have arisen from it. It's unfortunate that the server-search is corrupt and there's bugs popping up. I'm excited for L4D2, but am in no way saying that they should just abandon the first game, as I enjoy it a lot!

Sound arguments for rethinking the boycott, but I am still not convinced that valve deserves more money from me and here's why;
1. Buying the game on steam takes you to a description page promising DLC much like TF2. They did not fulfill that promise.
2. Cost of L4D1: What they did in europe as the american dollar exchange rate dropped, they switched to Euros to earn more money. (I'm not 100% sure about this, but i think that's illegal. Sales currency have to be in the same currency as wages.)
