Garden City Jetti huh..... One of favorite spots to fish for Reds, flounders, and blues. I have actually caught Spanish Macs there too. Best time to be there is in early fall. The surf will be loaded with finger mullet and the fishing is superb! 7ft Ugly Stick, 5500 Abu Garcia, 17lb test line, 3ft 30lb mono leader, 6' cast net for bait, your all set for a great day.
Use a medium surf rod 7-8 ft, not too large, 15 or 20 pound test line, and very important, a wire leader. this is good because bluefish are really never picky, so they won't notice the leader. Use bunker (menhaden) or mackerel, or even snapper bluefish (baby bluefish), or just any swimming lure.
can u please explain how to bait the hook with the cut mullet ??!!
and what is the hook size u are using ?!!
because usually what happen is the small fish nibble the cut and snatch from the hook before the tailor (blue fish) actually see it
