I like to think a Strider as a living alien organism dominated into a cyborg machine-like slave for the Combine. It could very well be an alien species that sided with the Combine and used to continue the Combine domination of other planets, much like ancient civilizations used as soldiers for other countries during our own history.

Either way they are bad guys.

Most of combine warfare is used with biological weaponry. The striders themselves are alive. Just like the drop ships and whatnot.

I dont think so.. the striders are too dumb, and even so, if you look at the brain after dog kills the strider, its waay too big to be a human brain.. but maybe they mix human intelligence and bodies etc. with combine technology?

My guess is that when Dog climbs to the roof is because he registers the presence of the combine jellies and is inmovilised by them and was able to free himself at the last minute
