I've read many things on "Tanx" and this song is hardly mentioned. One of my favourite songs (it's beautiful) on one of my favourite T.Rex albums. Very underrated, probably because it was the beginning of the end of T.Rex mania then...Who cares now? Just listen to the music...
@dummytree I agree with you. although Tanx is not th best T. Rex album (something subjective, anyway) it has some very fine tunes, like this one or Highway Knees, that provide a new dimesion to classic T. Rex sound. But Tanks also has T. Rex by numbers tunes such Country Honey or gems like Left Hand Luke.
I can't help thinking Marc would have absolutely loved internet and the fact that everyone are abel to watch him now on videos! he would have been thrilled with joy! keep posting and keep his legacy alive. He is so precious to us!
My favorite lines are "at dead of night, like a fiery kite, you've been on my mind." While initially it makes no sense, it says "at dead of night you've been on my mind" suggesting dreams in which she appears "like a fiery kite at dead of night," a light, a passion, a hope amidst the darkness. These three lines define love in it's three levels: intellectual (soul mates), emotional (physical attainment of connection), and idealistic (bestowing a reason to live, a reason to hope). I love TREX! <3!
@FlyingJunk Pure genius.Fucking brilliant Bolan at his best.My favorite song of all time, period.I think this was the last song of his "golden age" everything changed after Tanx..
Such a powerful song this is! I'm 17, and argue that Marc Bolan is the greatist musical artist that ever made a song! This is one of, if not my favorite, song ever!
This is one of Marc's forgotten gems really, fantastic song. If a modern artist came out with this now the'd be universally applauded and probably pick up a grammy and Ivor Novello.
wow i found someone who thinks the same as me ... those lyrics have been runnin' around in my head for over 30 years .. one of the greatest unknown songs of all time
of course I prefer to see Marc in the flesh with the band but this is a great wee film....This song is just another brilliant ,lyrical ,musical sound. I dig it!
Great song, I love T. Rex. Now I'm trying to remember...hasn't this song been played in a movie or on a tv show or something? Because when I first listened to Tanx I knew I had heard it somewhere else, and I never did figure out where (and I don't listen to the radio). Does anybody know if it's been in a movie soundtrack or something?
I love this song - always have. Started at 16 years old and am still a massive Bolan fan. How can some of his songs still give me goosebumps 35 years later ? Oh yeah - my 17 year old son is called .... Marc (What else ?) You are diamond RIP
Great video of probably his most underated song. The Tanx album was was criticised at the time, but the fans knew better. A lot of the songs flow cooler and as such are less dated than the previous years Slider.
This song just grooves! I love the visual graphics along with the slide show. Wonderful! I also dig the bass riffs. Thank you for letting all of us see this wonderful tribute!
Ah the memories, I still have all Bolan's records (on vinyl). Loved the pics. Thanks honeysprite , i have been reliving my teenage years lol. if only Marc were still with us eh.
Thank You So Much ~ I miss Marc and I missed hearing this song ~ I was fortunate to meet Mickey when they came to tour in October 1974? I think it was with Blue Oyster Cult which Marc cancelled due to laryngitis ~ ThanX to You They are Alive Forever ~ LOVE U
I loved Marc before I ever saw him. I just loved the music. It provide one of the main soundtracks to my life and still does. I love knowing so many other people love the music too. While it is not an exclusive club, it is not mass appeal, esp in the US. However, I know in England in his peak, he filled Wembly, 100,000 plus. So, yes he had massive following. Had he lived, OMG, what would he be doing now...that is my only sadness.
His lyrics were so artful and his voice so heartful. The Marc, Mickey, Steve, Bill and Tony lineup combined to put out a series of special albums and this was one excellent tune, magic.
