@SIMMER514 You need a webcam in which you can remove the IR filter, and you need some type of IR or LED light system so the webcam can track the lights. I recommend getting the TrackIR Pro Clip, it's cheap, and you clip it onto your headphones. That and a Microsoft webcam VX1000, cheap, and it has a removable IR filter, and works well will Free-Track.
@davidjjdj No most cameras have an IR filter and it needs to be removed or the camera will not be able to "see" the light, it isn't at a visible wavelength. The filter that you put over it is to remove any ambient light. And I found a floppy disk works perfectly for this. If you aren't using an IR light, then you don't have to worry about removing any filter.. But if you're using, say, the TrackIR Pro clip, then you will have to remove the IR filter from your webcam.
please can you tell me what setting you got here because my freetrack keeps shaking and i cant fly with it so can you tell me please the curves and the sensitivity settings please :)
@EAGLEEYE2431 It's not that simple. My rig was custom built, so I had to take my own measurements... I left curves all default and I just played with the sensitivity until it was right. My settings won't do you any good.
It can be tough to adjust speed, altitude and heading in virtual cockpit, unless you have a very large screen.
That's why I use voice control software called "Multi Crew Experience". I give voice commands to my slave (a.k.a. co-pilot) and he turns the dials for me.
Can also talk to native ATC or Radar Contact ATC. Since a demo is available, all you'd need is a headset with mike to try it out :-))
@ellonysman No, I don't. I followed someone else's video but they have taken it down since I watched it. I don't use this setup now, now I use the TrackIR Pro Clip. It cost like 25-30 bucks I forget but it works good and it is small and you can just clip it to your headphones when you want to use it.
flying with freetrack is the best feeling on the world... my friends have gone on the trip 'round the world (from Dubrovnik, Croatia) and now we are in Washington DC (KIAD)...
Have you had any experience with Track IR? Because i want one of these systems, but i don't know wether to go cheap get Free track setup, then possibley want to upgrade to Track IR because its not 'as good' -OR- Wait, save up and buy Track IR for the $200 + !!
Is Track IR a waste of money or not? thanks for your help if you can
I have never used the TrackIR program itself, but what I did (after ditching this setup) was buy a TrackIR Pro Clip (or something like that) from the TrackIR company, and use Freetrack and a webcam (cheap Microsoft VX-1000). The clip is only $30 I think, and it works fine. I definitely recommend it. Just make sure you find the right measurements for the Model options. If you can't find them send me a PM here and I will give you them if you decide to buy the clip. IMO, TrackIR is a huge waste.
Oh ok. Yeh i'm not too good with electronics so i was going to buy a Pro Clip anyway. So theres different measurments? ill find out which one ill need from the Free track website. If i run into any trouble ill send you a PM. Thanks
Oh, already got a Microsoft lifecam set up that i dont use :D Peeerrrfect.
sweet. you have to modify it though to pick up IR light waves. you just remove the pinkish colored IR filter. You just carefully unscrew the webcam, take off the lens, and then the pink film should be right there on the eye part. Carefully pry it off, the pink stuff might shatter all over when you peel it off but it doesnt matter, just throw it out. theres a video somewhere on youtube showing you how to do it on a VX-1000 step by step
Yep, ive seen the video by ViperTwo. And i think i have some floppy disk around here somewhere :D Thanks. Can't wait to get it working. So whats the response like? Is it clean and precise or a bit dogey here and there?
I'm having trouble with Z axis.....lots of jittering when the slide is moved even a touch. Plus mine isn't a smooth as yours....I've got a newer computer. What are your settings if you don't mind sharing. Also, I used a ruler to measure for the Pro Clip.....how critical are the measurements??
Hi. My 6DOF keep twitching. It's getting better with lower sensitivity, but then I can't look around much. Higher sensitivity means twitching again. What can I do?
Yes. 4 Point Cap. I am Using 4 leds on a cap in a way it's shown. Typed in the mm between the leds, and every single way I move my head - it works perfectly in a simulator (fsx)! Just without up/down :(
Oh, and for some reason, the FS2004 doesn't react to FreeTrack anyhow. I did set it on FS2004/FS2002(FSUISP) mode. Used the default and the special FS2004 profile. NO REACTION.
i dont use 4 LED's it is no longer supported the max supported is now 3 LED's. my device got thrown away but i just ordered the Track Clip Pro the thing that goes with TrackIR and a webcam so my prfile wouldn't work with your setup
in FreeTrack, go to Model then go to 4 Point Cap and it should work. But you need the measurements to be correct. you did follow the steps in the official handbook right? if you didnt you're going to have to redo it because there are specific measurements that need to be used.
Sweet man.... Is it possible for you to show what stuff you use in another video? I really wanna have this but not spend out £120 for a webcam and some lights! :P
Okay this may sound retarded but I just have a super cheap webcam @ 30fps, and a ball cap hat with a christmas lights on it with all but 3 blacked out with heat resistant paint.... ehem.
lol.
my mom threw away my hat >:( so i cant' show ya. lol
my freetrack is not working in fsx:(

@bushpilot223 for the webcam could i use any one and put a filter over it? such as negatives, or floppy disk material?

Try using smoothing and the smoothing multiplier.
If that dont work try playing with the Curves to create deadzones
bushpilot223 2 years ago
Where are those Curves to create deadzones located? I'm having difficulties finding them.
ParaglidingManiac 2 years ago
at the top of freetrack there is a button that says Curves

God damn it.. I'm such an idiot! Thank you, that helped. So smooth... and my neck is already killing me :)
