We didn't declare war to anyone, but US and therefor NATO just had to be involved, that resulted in bombing of Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo too (if u look it as independent). And Russians did helped us out dude, their peacekeepers were first in Kosovo, they gave us tech on radars and missiles back in '99. Through history had helped us more than u have... so if I like Russians more than Georgians, that is my opinion- what is that to you? And Kosovo isn't only our problem, it is anybodies!

Cont: Georgia deploys 12,000 troops to SO, this violates the 3,000 troop limit as per the Sochi agreement. Starting August 6-7 the 2 sides begin artillery barrages, and the war begins in earnest.
Georgia wished to re-assert it's control over the mostly independent region. Russia used this pretext to invade and reassert their influence in the region.

Here's exactly what happened, no bias or bullshit. In 1991-1992 Georgia and S. Ossetia, have an armed conflict. Ends up with a joint peacekeeping force consisting of Russia, Georgia, N. Ossetia, and S. Ossetia. In 2006 there are minor engagements with Georgia attacking S. Ossestia, in violation of the Sochi Agreement. S. Ossetia declares independence from Georgia the same year. On April 20th a Russian jet shoots down a Georgian UAV, shown in this video.
