mclaren failed to much at that time, david and mika were awesome. Every race when the onboard camera shows us some grey screens you know there were technical difficulties, followed by blue smoke.
Dc had many failures in 1998 & 1999 while in race winning positions. Too bad he couldve challenged for the championship if Mclaren didn't have the DC self district button everytime he was going to beak Mika.

@industab Finally someone that speaks the truth, but what got me the most was his talk of every year he was gonna win the championship. Now I know every top driver must think that otherwise why compete but his talk was of him winning it not of him trying to win it. It was almost as if he was to be given the championship.
Such unlucky behavior, indeed, to take out Michael Schumacher in Belgium in the heavy rain when being 1 lap behind the CHAMP... indeed, an unfortunate scot mr. Coulthard, but unfortunate FOR THE REST OF US.
Yeah, because a loser wins 13 races in Formula 1 (Top 20 of all winners).
He drove for top teams in his entire career, unlike so many others who ended their days in bad teams. Frentzen, Villeneuve, Alesi, Ralf Schumacher, Giancarlo Fisichella...
When I think of DC, I remember a crash in the pit entry at Adelaide. Or he span two times in the warm up lap, when he was at Pole! Or lifting the gas in the rain of Spa-Franchorchamps which was just crazy
A lot of technical failures... Remeber Monza 1998 where he was over 9 seconds in front of Hakkinen but his engine blew up... UNlucky things like that... However, Raikkonen destroyed him at McClaren after 2002... David helped Red Bull , in development, to the position where they may win the 2010 drivers and constructors' title.....
where is DC unlucky? he has a car next to him and simply drives into that car. he was unlucky sometimes, but moreoften he messed it up himself, as you see in the spot that i just mentioned.
DC also messed up at RBR a lot of times, doing stupid things. he was never fast, that is cause he aint got the talent. 40secs on hakkinnen in the same car is an evidence. and when do you get unlucky? when you drive above your own pace.
hah..eipä toi laarenil sen parempi tuuri häkkiselkää yleesä ollu..kone rikkoi sattu ja muutekaa lelut kestäny..paljo useemmi coulthard sössi ite oman kisansa ja kerra häkkisenki kisan jol mikä olo johossa

Hamilton is one of the greatest driver of all time all ready. His drives at Silverstone last year and Monaco were way ahead of the drives of other drivers in 2008. He deserved the title, especially because of being dealt with badly by the FIA at Spa.
That coming from a narrow minded Hamilton fan? Coulthard at the pinnicle of his career I predict will have been better than Lewis at the prime of his. Coulthard had the ability to put the greatest driver of all time to shame, his drive at Magny Cours in 2000 was one of the best I've ever seen
Thats why i dislike hamilton he was arse licked by Ron Dennis and he gets spoilt about it and I have no hesitation to say that if Kovalainen ever was in contention for the world championship in 2008 Ron would have told kovi to move over to let lewis by. Anyway he did the same with Mika only Mika ain't a brat or cocky or a southern english person (i'm english too) but Mika deserved every win he got he was one of the last of the proper racers
Well he was pretty much unloved by McLaren since Ron always picked sides within the team. "Our drivers have equal standing," anybody should know that that's bollocks when it comes to Ron Dennis. They don't.
He's the best driver without a title... the figures say it all... and remember he was the one that had to step into Senna's car after he died - that must have been hard!!!
actually with this year's stats they are kinda in a tie. Coulthard has more wins and fastest laps but Barichelo has 3 podiums and 30 points more... so I guess I did not expect Rubens to have such a good car this year (he is another favourite of mine)
nah mate, DC is. rubens is just a whiner who is a race winner but head to head with DC (happened a few times when McLaren was on par with Ferrari) DC buried him everytme. this is a fact.
Not only that but he had to fend off the attention of Mansell to claim a driver for 1995. U fortunately he was a driver in the same era as Schumi. I mean, when McLaren was the strongest, Hakinnen was at the prime of his career. When Coulthard has the beating of the Finn, Ferraris car is too strong.
David Coulthard always got a bum wrap. He wasn't the fastest but he didn't need to be. He was very consistent, his machinery was not. He got alot more mechanical failures then this teammates. Yes he did bugger up a few times, what driver has not. But he was always a gentleman, And rare in Formula 1 drivers, he took responsibility when he DID bugger up. I miss him dearly in Formula 1, one less of the old guard. The only driver I can remember that was as unlucky as him was Jean Alesi.
@AduneStormwind He also does not get enough credit for supporting Mika's title charges, especially in '98. We must not forget that he had a very good chance at the title in 2000, but as we know, it didn't happen. I will always be a fan of Mika and DC. Reading DC's book is a must for those who are interested in sports psychology and the Mclaren years. I truly believe he had the physical and mental capabilities to be world champion, but his psychological state (thanks ron) made him unable to win.
true but if you think about it jenson button was alway pretty damn unlucky untill he went to brawn and seems to be having simila bad luck with mclaren
Always expected Coulthard to win one championship but Mclarens team strategy and poor reliabillty cost him dearly during his 8 yrs with them. He was a good driver, won plenty of races, lots of awesome overtaking but Mclaren favoured Hakkinen to be honest.
That said .. Coulthard and Hakkinen were both awesome and its down to them that I got hooked on F1.
the teams always saw him as second by williams always team orders and mclaren when they had a bad car he wasranked higher then hakinen and when they have a good carhe needs to let hakinen pass on it was just unfair for him
DC and Kimi Raikkonen are the most unluckiest drivers I have seen in the past 10 years. In Kimi's Mclaren days, he had constant mechanical and engine failures. @bkent95 i was a dear kimi fan in 2005 and i was there seeing his pace at both nürburgring and hockenheim.
every decent mclaren fan back than had swollen arterias when we saw the FLAT SPOT OF THE CENTURY ... he was leading comfortably and braked his rubber off his tire: that vibration made the suspension crack in last lap. that is one example of throwing his championship away by himself. after YEARS of experience. kimi is lively, lovely, but not mature to win the championship till 2007
when u brake a flot spot so that you have to change tires, then one is absolutely unable. that didnt happen in years at 22 drivers. they changed it away with the next pit stop.
whatever u were trying to say: it is still 100% kimis fault. if u cant race, u must pay for it
DC is the man. a pure racer 100% inside and outside. always a gentleman, he will be very much missed in F1. Was the last of the great racers to survive in F1, now F1 has all these young plastic robots posing as racers.
Don't be so down yet, rumour has it he'll race in 09 if one of the RBR drivers are unfit to race and could even rac in Asutralia if Webber isn't 100% up to it
Have any of u fucked seen thats he is Very unlucky. and in most of the teams he was in he was always ordered to let the other guy past. u guys really know f**k all about DC.
i remember DC had reliability problems in 98 and 99 SO MANY times, in the lead of many races or in race winning position.
webber could wipe the floor with kovalainen, probably massa, heidfeld, fisichella, piquet, kubica and they all have competitive cars, but webber gets cars that break down every 5 laps.
yeah button aswell is very unluky. like vettle is the superstar now and he will defeat hamilton vettel is a much better driver. webber could out do hamilton aswell just look at this season for webber and vettle. webber should of had a podium in singapor and should of got points in germany then he would of finished top 10 but rely apart from that he had great season considering his car still is not the best it can be there still in development
no he didnt. What year did he deserve a championship? He was beaten by almost every team mate he had. He had numerous championship capable winning cars 95, 98, 99, 00, 01, 2003 and he never even came close to winning it. How did he deserve a title?
seriously what is up with the language? f1 attracts all viewers from young to old! at least use symbols or something (s**t), my children watch this, please i would like for them to enjoy it too.
0:26 was soll Schumi da bitte schön tun?
He had the car in 95, 98, 99, 2000, 2003. That is more than enough opportunity. Button does not have the ability to win a WC. He was destroyed by a 37year old Rubens this year.
Lets also remember Dc came into f1 after the back of Senna's death, he was also nearly killed in a plane crash in 2000 and on the track in Monza in the same Year was nearly killed by Pedro De La Rosa's flying Arrows. He has never been a lucky driver and I'm just so hapy he's still driving, one more race of DC COME ON Bring home the podium!!
I hate all the people here posting who have only followed f1 since Hamilton "the great" was discovered. DC never had the best car at the best time, Williams he was unlucky (and Damon Hill) with different failures liek when he was leading at Australia. At McLaren either the Team favoured Hakinnen or Ferrari were too strong. All in all 13 race victories over, 30-40 Podiums and 12 Poles just show he's a great talented driver. That and the fact he's remained in f1 for 14 Years..
The only reason schumachers bennetton was faster in 95 was because of Schumacher. Herbert was nowhere in it and he regularly qualified outside the top 6 while Coulthard/Hill never qualified outside the top 4.
In 1998 whether Mika was favoured in strategy or not DC never had the pace in qualifying. Mika got 25 poles between 98-2000. DC got 5. That says it all about their relative pace.
The 2000 Ferrari was not faster. It was at best equal fastest but it was more reliable.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dc keep on being a LOOOSER!!! what a SHITTY driver. In the end he is retiring, YEEEEESSSSS!!! Now, more talented drivers get the chance to show how to drive.
i and also david get a feeling of emptiness when i think of what could have been. he is so talented. so very brilliant. rothman's williams in 95 was his best chance, he should have got it then, the bastard schumacher was always playing dirty and DC's car was always unreliable. we love you david coulthard, you will be sorely missed next season, and for many seasons to come.
he may well have pipped schumi in 95" i=with better reliability and won in 96 and 97 if they kept him, he may well have also won in 99 and 2000 with better reliability, that makes him a 5 times world champion - i still admire him for what he could of been but the fact that he didnt through no fault of his own
that is the most delusional thing i have ever read. He was nowhere near Damon Hill in 1995, in 98 and 99 and 00 Mika was simply much faster than him. in 2001 Schumacher was the class of the field and no one would have beaten him.
Saying DC could have been a 5 time world champion is madness. You should see a doctor if you believe that was ever possible.
I have noticed that when Scots do get behind the wheel, they often do a good job. Take for example the likes of either Sir Jackie Stewart or even John Cleland..
With the right car, i think the Scots can prove worthy.
It is a shame. He is really unlucky. But his car is getting better.
Everyone says he's a bad driver, but recently he went to another teams car (cant remember which team) and went round the test track in Jerez and set one of the fastest times on record.
i think DC was/is a brilliant driver. he will always be one of my favourite drivers coz of what he did at mclaren and how he was such a gentleman to Mika and Kimi. wish him all the best this season, looks like his car is getting better so i wouldnt bank on him retiring after this season, maybe he'll leave after 2009 season
Anyone's unlcuky when your team mate has been at the team since 1992 and is a double world champion and not only that but your up against a 7 time world champion. Maybe if Mclaren favoured DC over Hakkinnen in 2000, 2001 and 1996 they'd have got more points and maybe two more world championships but no, they had to favour Mika! DC deserves respect for the job he's done and I hope this year is trophy time for Red Bull!
DC is the fourth all time points scorer only beaten by Schumi, Senna and Prost. That means something. Anyway don't worry his good times are over, 2008 is much likely going to be his last year in F1.
You've seen this video and you think he's not unlucky? I think being driver in a winning team is not about your luck, but if you DNF because of technical failure several times per season, THAT is unlucky.
But no offence dude, thanks for your comment and your opinion.
1994 Williams - Only there half a season, 1995 - Benneton too strong, 1996 - Mclaren were about 5th in championship, (not good car), 1997 - Williams too strong, 1998 - Hakkinnen favoured, 1999 - Same as 1998, 2000 - was at top of standings but still not favoured, 2001 - Ferrari too strong, 2002 - Dull year for Mclaren, 2003 - good partnership with Kimi but after being top with the first few races Mclaren still couldn't do anything, 2004 - torrid year!
Who remembers Coulthard at Suzuka 1999? he went off all by himself on a STRAIGHT!!, AND CRASHING IN THE pitlane ADELAIDE 1995, CRASHING ON THE PARAGDE LAP MONZA 1995? and who can forget silverstone 2003?. And he has got a square hed too!
mclaren failed to much at that time, david and mika were awesome. Every race when the onboard camera shows us some grey screens you know there were technical difficulties, followed by blue smoke.

thechickenmaster299 3 years ago 3
i remember DC had reliability problems in 98 and 99 SO MANY times, in the lead of many races or in race winning position.
webber could wipe the floor with kovalainen, probably massa, heidfeld, fisichella, piquet, kubica and they all have competitive cars, but webber gets cars that break down every 5 laps.

yeah button aswell is very unluky. like vettle is the superstar now and he will defeat hamilton vettel is a much better driver. webber could out do hamilton aswell just look at this season for webber and vettle. webber should of had a podium in singapor and should of got points in germany then he would of finished top 10 but rely apart from that he had great season considering his car still is not the best it can be there still in development

Coulthard deserved a championship
martinz101 3 years ago 3
no he didnt. What year did he deserve a championship? He was beaten by almost every team mate he had. He had numerous championship capable winning cars 95, 98, 99, 00, 01, 2003 and he never even came close to winning it. How did he deserve a title?

seriously what is up with the language? f1 attracts all viewers from young to old! at least use symbols or something (s**t), my children watch this, please i would like for them to enjoy it too.

all i remember is his decline in race victories? which led him down the ranks and eventually pushed him out of formula1 all together.

0:26 was soll Schumi da bitte schön tun?
It's true ;))

coulthard and webber are the unlucky drivers thought they could of had it alot worse
nachospole1 3 years ago 3
I agree, they and Button have had the talent to win the World Title, but never the car.
Lukeno52 3 years ago
He had the car in 95, 98, 99, 2000, 2003. That is more than enough opportunity. Button does not have the ability to win a WC. He was destroyed by a 37year old Rubens this year.

dc was an gr8 driver, let down by a poor car and playing second fiddle to mika.
dc will be badly missed
philomac 3 years ago 2
Lets also remember Dc came into f1 after the back of Senna's death, he was also nearly killed in a plane crash in 2000 and on the track in Monza in the same Year was nearly killed by Pedro De La Rosa's flying Arrows. He has never been a lucky driver and I'm just so hapy he's still driving, one more race of DC COME ON Bring home the podium!!
Fabregasanddagunners 3 years ago
I hate all the people here posting who have only followed f1 since Hamilton "the great" was discovered. DC never had the best car at the best time, Williams he was unlucky (and Damon Hill) with different failures liek when he was leading at Australia. At McLaren either the Team favoured Hakinnen or Ferrari were too strong. All in all 13 race victories over, 30-40 Podiums and 12 Poles just show he's a great talented driver. That and the fact he's remained in f1 for 14 Years..
Fabregasanddagunners 3 years ago
DC never had the best car at the best time??!?!?! What?!
Williams 95 was the best car
McLaren 98 was BY FAR the best car
McLaren 99 was the best car and Schumacher didnt even race most of the season so he never had a better chance
McLaren 00 was equal best car.
That is 4 occassions when he had the best car at the best time and he did nothing with it. In 2008 he was a laughing stock and crashed into everyone.
samsemtex 3 years ago
Schumacher's Benneton was miles quicker than that Williams in 95.
McLaren 98 okay was fastest but he wasn't favoured
Neither was he in 99.
00 the Ferrari was faster and you can't deny that.
Fabregasanddagunners 3 years ago
The only reason schumachers bennetton was faster in 95 was because of Schumacher. Herbert was nowhere in it and he regularly qualified outside the top 6 while Coulthard/Hill never qualified outside the top 4.
In 1998 whether Mika was favoured in strategy or not DC never had the pace in qualifying. Mika got 25 poles between 98-2000. DC got 5. That says it all about their relative pace.
The 2000 Ferrari was not faster. It was at best equal fastest but it was more reliable.

i and also david get a feeling of emptiness when i think of what could have been. he is so talented. so very brilliant. rothman's williams in 95 was his best chance, he should have got it then, the bastard schumacher was always playing dirty and DC's car was always unreliable. we love you david coulthard, you will be sorely missed next season, and for many seasons to come.

he may well have pipped schumi in 95" i=with better reliability and won in 96 and 97 if they kept him, he may well have also won in 99 and 2000 with better reliability, that makes him a 5 times world champion - i still admire him for what he could of been but the fact that he didnt through no fault of his own
JMDDE 3 years ago
that is the most delusional thing i have ever read. He was nowhere near Damon Hill in 1995, in 98 and 99 and 00 Mika was simply much faster than him. in 2001 Schumacher was the class of the field and no one would have beaten him.
Saying DC could have been a 5 time world champion is madness. You should see a doctor if you believe that was ever possible.
samsemtex 3 years ago
I have noticed that when Scots do get behind the wheel, they often do a good job. Take for example the likes of either Sir Jackie Stewart or even John Cleland..
With the right car, i think the Scots can prove worthy.

Coulthard's not a bad driver at all.
He partnered Hakkinen for 6 years, and actually outscored Hakkinen for 3 of them!

well maybe he isnt but while you screw up few times and never win championship all they can remember was how you screwd up...
luputtaja 3 years ago
It is a shame. He is really unlucky. But his car is getting better.
Everyone says he's a bad driver, but recently he went to another teams car (cant remember which team) and went round the test track in Jerez and set one of the fastest times on record.
So he is a good driver.

i think DC was/is a brilliant driver. he will always be one of my favourite drivers coz of what he did at mclaren and how he was such a gentleman to Mika and Kimi. wish him all the best this season, looks like his car is getting better so i wouldnt bank on him retiring after this season, maybe he'll leave after 2009 season

Fabregasanddagunners 4 years ago 3
DC is the fourth all time points scorer only beaten by Schumi, Senna and Prost. That means something. Anyway don't worry his good times are over, 2008 is much likely going to be his last year in F1.
nixxxon18 4 years ago
You think that but then we say the same every year, but he always stays!
Fabregasanddagunners 4 years ago
He is a very hard worker, thats for sure, but I think Liuzzi (young, fast and hungry for success) will beat him and he will retire.

Fabregasanddagunners 4 years ago
he is not that bad he did win 13 races
bexters2105 4 years ago 2
He's not that unlucky if we think about it objectively. Has been with title winning teams all his career until he left for Red Bull.
I do think he is an underrated driver though, people don't like him just because he is Scottish-what do those people know.
AlonsoLegend 4 years ago 3

Fabregasanddagunners 4 years ago

Who remembers Coulthard at Suzuka 1999? he went off all by himself on a STRAIGHT!!, AND CRASHING IN THE pitlane ADELAIDE 1995, CRASHING ON THE PARAGDE LAP MONZA 1995? and who can forget silverstone 2003?. And he has got a square hed too!

Adelaide 1995 happened because the electronics wrongly sensed a stall and raised the revs.
