no, not really..:) Hans Zimmer makes real dark music..more for action movies. Alexandre Desplat is more light and thoughtful..But Hans Zimmer is not bad, I really like his music too..:-)

But Alexandre is doing Part 1 and 2 of the Deathly Hallows films, and those are the darkest of the movies. Try listening to 'Death Eaters' and 'The Locket' and 'Bathilda Bagshot' and at least half of the scores for part 2. Those are going to be dark. Some of the Golden Compass soundtrack was dark, too.

alexandre is incredible... i love his work but sometimes i feel like he carries the same sort of tone in a lot of his music... regardless it is still great and that makes his music what is is but i feel like i know what to expect when i go to listen. he should surprise us with something different

@AmayaSohma Alexandre Desplat is a phenomenal composer. Just because the movie in general is not what you would term ~good~ does not mean every person who worked on it were personally terrible. Instead of listening to just ONE of his scores (which in all fairness was actually quite emotive in some points) perhaps you should go and listen to some of his other works such as "The Golden Compass" which is an enthralling composition. Harry will be just fine.

desplat has taken the themes by burwell and developed them in this film to create some kind of continuity, as well as each song of burwells identifies a mood or relationship, and to create new themes for themes which have already been established from the first film, would be a foolish move for a composer. word
