Awww, your daughter cried... I think it's mostly a mental hurdle for us; fermented foods aren't really a big part of northern European food culture but in a tropical climate, you need to control decomposition to preserve food! Yours look less processed than the Chinese ones, which are solid to the center. But they're not usually eaten out of hand, they're more of a side or ingredient. Scrambled with eggs, or in congee etc. I have to admit balut would be a major hurdle for me...
preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months... personally we eat it with porridge :)
Perhaps you have a well, but if you are on municipal water, it is illegal. When the pressure drops you steal water from your neighbors, but I would never turn you in. If you like boats see my longtail site or my channel, cheers, Sean ...
@walkertongdee do you mean "illegal?" No idea what you're talking about, but, if you think it's illegal for some reason you should file a complaint against the owner of the house - he's a Thai judge. lol. Good luck to you... hahahha.
Wow man I watched all of your videos. Props to you for eating all of those bugs. Too bad a stinky egg was your limit. I swear I thought you could do it. But I bet it's just nasty. Good videos. I hope you post more.
@lovemyreborn15 she never saw me hack like I was going to die! She didn't know what was up man. One minute dad's eating lunch, the next minute hacking, crying, spitting, coughing... poor girl, I traumatized her!
@NaturalGroundation hahha! yeah, that's what it was... I realized I had lost as soon as I hit the texture of it man - I wasn't expecting that... or the smell.
I'm all for barfing after attempting to eat that (but fried bugs and lizards and stuff are good!) but worried it isn't cooked? People eat raw eggs all the time and this is salt cured, ever had salt cured ham (no heat involved)? It's AWESOME!
@DanielAvilaAGT I was sure I would. For the record - I hacked. I spit up in the back of my throat - and spit it out. I guess that's what a vomit is. lol
I'm totally with you my friend. I'm almost certain I could eat any kind of bug.. but an egg like this... nooo. I gotta say that I find regular eggs pretty disgusting already. xD
By the way.. I'd really like to see some crazy fishes, I know there are quite many species in Thailand that no-natives would find pretty weird looking. Is there like a fish market from time to time? Would love to see it!! (:
@thaipulsedotcom: Hm that's odd. I guess the Thais won't eat the ugly ones then, too. There are some catfish and other species that look pretty weird.. I'm a hobby angler so I should know which ones.. but I don't have further information at hand right now. Nevermind. ;)) Gross grubs are better anyway..
@Soilwar yeah, ok, we have these eeely looking fish and a bunch of other junk fish I wouldn't eat. I don't think anyone else would find the video that bad. I wouldn't barf - but wouldn't enjoy it at all either.
I cant believe you ate that preserved egg (thousand year egg) raw, next time try it stir fried with chilli and thai basil, and you might actually like it :P
I watched all the way to 5:32, where you were putting it in your mouth before stopping the video. I'll start dry heaving if I continue watching. I'll take your word you finished consuming the rest. That is just sick!
@madamoisele1 ha! Yeah, that's another one - I'm not looking forward to - but, if I find it - I WILL eat it. I have a serious skeevishness about spiders. I'll hold all sorts of snakes, and even that big centipede... but a spider just freaks me right out. You hold yours?
@thaipulsedotcom Don't be afraid to eat a tarantula (properly cooked) - all reports I've heard say that they taste like soft shell crab. Just don't eat the abdomen, whatever you do! All the internal organs are contained there and even the amazon people who eat it regularly pinch that part off and discard it. I hold SOME of my tarantulas - but you're in the "old world" tarantula area - they're very aggressive in your area and WILL bite you. Some multiple times. Don't hold the native spiders!
@thaipulsedotcom The old world species (those found in the americas) are usually safe to handle. You can check out my videos if you want to learn more about tarantulas, I've got several videos showing my collection and some of them I'm handling. i talk a lot about spider body language, which you MUST learn if you're to minimize the risk when handling. Also different species have different intensity of venom. Most are like a bee sting. Tarantulas in your area have potent venom but not lethal.
@thaipulsedotcom Also, google "Arachnoboards bite reports" for information on people who report on different inverts (spiders, scorpions, pedes, etc) and what happens in varying species when you get bitten. The Thailand tarantulas belong to the "Haplopelma" species, so look for those to see what you're facing. Frankly, Haplo's scare the crap out of me, I owned one briefly (cobalt blue) and gave it away because I was way too scared of it. SUPER FAST and bites multiple times, not just once.
@madamoisele1 I HAVE looked at those spiders and also saw a video about a guy that was bitten like 3 times as it ran up his arm - a Haplo. No thanks. I can't read spider's minds. They're like zombies. No THANKS! You didn't tell me - you hold yours or no?
@thaipulsedotcom I hold some of my species (was in my first reply post, but I posted three times, you might have missed it :) ). If it isn't native to North or South America, I don't hold it, period. But those native to the Americas are usually docile, and I do hold them. I would never hold a tarantula native to Thailand. In fact, I'm more afraid of Thailand tarantulas than any other type.
your daughter is adorable and your wife is awesome. I am stuck at the moment in the states but am trying to get to the philippines where my wonderful g/f awaits and hopefully make a go of at at living there. To some degree you have inspired me to make the change for a better life. Much thanks for you and your videos. When I go to Thailand would be so cool to meet you.
@wgpdesign I love to hear that someone is leaving the states to move to asia - and if I inspired you at all - that's great news. Thanks for the compliments about wife and baby. Cheers!
@1787dude I just watched it for the first time through - yep. The smell and the fact that I turned the soft part over in my mouth with my tongue when I first took a bite - was the start of my downfall. The smell was just sickening for some reason too. I'd be curious to see if any foreigners eat these eggs on a regular basis.
@thaipulsedotcom since shes a baby.. uh.. i think so... LOL, just dont do it..I don't think your babies stomach could handle such a thing.. so funny she was crying ah man.. you gotta love that.
@Kimbup hahha - she really is great. She is 2 now and just as cute, or more, hard to say when they're just FREAKING ADORABLE as you said. She's unbelievably cute.
