I live in the valley in Oregon, and I've only seen them once. The ones I saw were striped non-albino ghost morphs, and I've seen some black racers, which I think are actually a lot meaner than the gopher snakes. I wish I knew where to go to find some wild ones.
The best way to catch wild non venomous snakes is to use gloves. Really the way to do it is to be calm and pick them up slowly with your hands. They will try to escape, but remain gentle and slow and get them in both your hands and support them on your arms. Don't let them bite at your face. If a snake knows your not going to hurt it, then it will not bite. Use a slow gentle approach, without the poking of sticks. The sooner it is in your hands, the faster it will calm down.
Even a full grown gopher snake can live in a 20gal tank. I house mine in a 30gal and keep western skinks and alligator lizards in there as well. I personally think gopher snakes make great pets. I have 4, 3 of which are captive. I live in Pendleton and find them all the time, along with western yellow bellied racers.
@novaboi72 I keep it in a 20 gallon tall tank, but I want to get a bigger one so the snake can grow more and have more room to roam. I live in Washington.

Nice vid. I caught a 2 1/2 footer myself and brought it home for a pet. Its pretty tame and growing quick. Up to 3 feet now.
