  • Well I thought he actually did a good job, not bad at all, yes we can never replace people but for once this guy did a very good rendition

  • Sorry, no one can replace Jon Anderson. He is the voice of Yes, just like Ian Anderson is the voice of Tull. They are too unique and cannot ever be replaced.

  • Did Alan White appear in this video? oh yes, almost at the end...for 1 second!!!

  • @joeheadblues I'll try to get more Alan next tour. :)

  • @DeadMikeDOTcom thank you, I certainly like your videos...Jeff, Ted, Ozzy, Judas Priest, Van Halen...you have really been there!!!

  • @joeheadblues I got some good concerts coming up, including Joe Walsh and Roger Daltrey. Be sure to subscribe!

  • I saw them live last year and they still have it!

  • BD can cover many of Jon's songs and do them pretty well. This isn't one of them!

  • I see nothing wrong with this performance. I don't see what people are complaining about :/

  • @stuporduper Yes should "get a female lead singer with a good set of pipes," you say? Well..never mind "a good set of pipes"...they should just get a female with a great pair of TITS, so the audience will actually have something worthwhile to look at on stage!

  • This is good! ...and from what I have heard, their more recent performances were more fantastic. In Houston a year ago, they were terrific. But, to be the expert King of Yes by looking and listening to a youtube copy from a cell phone or small camera, haha...this is apparently the new trend these days! Seriously, go and see them LIVE, with REAL sounds! not cell phone sounds...and if you haven't bought Fly From Here, buy it, THE masterpiece of 2011...best Yes album in years!

  • @derbystardom

Man, you said it! "Fly from Here" is truly brilliant! I'm a little shocked to see so many real hate reactions - to the new album and to the Buggles. Okay, taste is very personal - but I think the 2 Buggles albums were masterpieces. Most people who judge the Buggles only know the song "Video killed the radio star". Fly from Here is more song-oriented and maybe not as complex as Close to the Edge, Awaken, Gates of Delirium, etc. - but the quality of the songs is outstanding (imho).

  • I saw them recently and they sounded even better than this. I was critical of Bennoit from this recording but when I saw them, he sounded just like John Anderson.

  • I am a female and I sing YESSONGS!!! I'll take the gig ;-)

  • I can't hear or see what people are complaining about.

No big mistakes, consistent tempo, band interaction(Howe was having a bit of craic conducting and singing with Benoit) and some nice solos at the end.

Maybe it's Yes's fans who are getting too old and looking for stuff to complain about.

  • @stuporduper I thought Geoff's Yes membership was now permanent?

  • @stuporduper a female lead singer?? that's a horrible idea

  • oh - wait a minute ... sorry ... I thought this was a Yes video. Turns out it's a trailer for the upcoming Spinal Tap II movie.

  • turns out that copious amounts of alcohol was a vital part of the original live keyboard sound and zeitgeist, flame, spark. Circa 71-73 and 77-78 Yes were visceral and vital. Time is not kind to anyone except Dick Clark.

  • What is that cool bass Squire's playing? First time I've ever seen him without his blue Ric.

  • First let me say since 1971, Nobody loves Yes/Howe more then me, but this is a train wreck. I never Liked alans fills in this song combined with Olivers floating tempo it just doesnt swing.. Downes will fix the Keys.for now. Sorry guys Benoit gotta go.The reason the sound mix is always bad (since this lineup) is by design. Its a cover-up. If Rick and Jon could do studio work and small tours DO IT. If not we Gotta get a singer and If not Rick, Igor has Yes Chops. It can be fixed with virtuosos.

  • @stuporduper Thanx for the information and the comment! I had no idea that they temporarily replaced him with Geoff Downes, but as far as I am concerned if they weren't going to go with anyone new- they should have picked him to begin with... after all Steve's been playing with again for quite awhile!

  • @stuporduper I couldn't agree with you more. Oliver Wakeman is very limited, and even though I don't dislike Benoit David... he doesn't have any real power on stage or in his vocals. I have often imagined what they would sound with Annie Haslam, but you seem to have a better idea... get a good female lead singer (period).

Kind of difficult to replace Jon Anderson... so why bother? A new approach. A female singer!

  • @Lewis1key

Annie Haslam, now that's a name I haven't heard in ages! That would be a renaissance!

  • These are 5 guys that don't mind embarrassing themselves!

  • Ponderous, slack,no soul in it......this just sounds tired!!

Benoit is not a bad singer....just not consistent and in my opinion falls short of YES's exacting standards.

I hate to see the band I first saw in 1975 in such sharp decline!

  • I agree with stuporduper 100%

Sad to say but YES will never be the same. I just don't get that thrill "feeling" anymore with the NEW.

  • @stuporduper

    I agree with you...

The feeling of YES is not there anymore

  • saw them last night in ac new jersey god damn steve is fuckin amazing he was the star of the show and chris is still great too i guess the tempo is lower becuase of alan he is no good anymore they should get rid of him

  • @pryt86 I actually like the slower tempos. Since I've listening to prog for quite a while now, those epic tracks fly by like a breeze.

  • Bring back BRUFORD WAKEMAN Sr. AND ANDERSON!! FRAGILE-CLOSE TO THE EDGE LINEUP 4EVER!!

  • You want to hear a great performance of this....Songs from tsongas .....2004 I think.....Jon was around 60 and makes this sound like it was recorded in a bathroom in mono......sad.....I've seen this circus....Benoit can't come close to "The Man". The la, la, la part sounds like edith bunker from all in the family...come on!

A.W.R, Jon, Rick and Trevor....2011, or 2012.......That's Yes.

  • I saw them last night in Durham. Benoit sounded great. I really wish they had played this song.

  • great vid!! this is one of my fave Yes songs. Ive seen them live several times over the years, including this tour, but I have yet to see this song live in person. for some reason, they dropped this from the set, so far on this tour, other than this performance. Im not really sure why. But, i am hoping I can catch it on their next tour. (and I would love to see Howe play Changes and/or Cinema with them! that would be tight!)

  • The band sounds horrible, the people are probably drunk. What a shame. I still have memories of the real Yes and their music.

  • @TheFormby That makes no sense. The face Steve is making is totally normal. He's focusing on what he's playing, pal.

  • @michelforest I think he's one of those singers who will sound great some nights and other nights not so well. We're all human, you know?

  • It's funny how some people hate the band now, but others still LOVE them...no matter what! I'm part of the second group! :D

  • This is just sad.

  • @stuporduper Yeah, Tom was animated, for sure, but they have their reasons we don't know about. And, I too, wonder what a female would be like as the lead, it could be quite interesting and might work if the correct one could be found.

Perfect or not, Yes was still able to put me in a trance during the concert and this was my 25th Yes concert. I'm just so delighted they are still touring and love them so much it's thrilling to still hear them live.

They do it for the fans, you know.

  • @DeadMikeDOTcom They do it for the money, you know.

  • @TheColininla Yeah, I actually think they are doing it for the fans more than anything. I mean, c'mon, Benoit as the singer, making a new CD even tho they aren't selling millions, playing to smaller crowds... Money is a part, but I really think they do it for the fans who have stayed with them to this day. And the younger one's still discover them and want to see them live!

  • The 'point' is these musicians used to be one of the best, even live. It's become embarrassing.

  • @TheColininla That is not the point. It's actually rather judgmental of you. So long as they are producing and touring, I will support them. I'm not fair-weather. I'm not embarrassed for them. They are grown men who know what they are doing and they have reasons for doing what they do.

Do you happen to know their reasons? huh? Yeah, didn't think so. Stop judging dude.

I am capable of going to a concert and enjoying the musicians without worrying if the singer is perfect. We are all imperfect.

  • @DeadMikeDOTcom You tell him mate

Going to see Yes, the God's of Prog 13th November Glasgow 'Happy Days'

  • You're right. What a shame. Take a good female singer if a man can't compete with jon.

  • Here are the bands that I've seen whose ORIGINAL lead singer sounded like crap live (off-key, hoarse, drunk, stoned) but I still enjoyed the show: Bad Company, Rolling Stones, GnR, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Ozzy, to name a few.

So what's your point? You've never seen live performances by original artists that don't sound like they do in the studio, or you just haven't seen enough live performances, or you just like to pick on Yes?

  • Awesome, Awesome show! Set list was perfect! Christopher is very much the character. Yes rocked Chicago! (p.s.....thanks to the Loop for the tickets.)

  • Awesome, Awesome show! Set list was perfect! Christopher is very much the character. Yes rocked Chicago!

  • Benoit David ROCKS (PS I love you Jon....)

  • Thanks for posting. You did a nice job on the video!

  • @stuporduper I think your being a bit unfair on Oliver, i thought he was great when i saw the band in 2009 albeit lacking in a bit of stage prescence.

Benoit is good live and has a jovial stage prescence but he does sound bad when you see videos like this on youtube and unfortunetly will never lose the 'stand in' tag.
