  • eso no suena como un 1959 ...

  • Is this that new solid state Randall?

  • It sounds just like metallica's Kill Em All tone!!

  • This sounds amazing...Great tone

  • i've played on a custom rebuild of a marshall plexi, complete with old transistors and all the quality parts, would be hard to capture that tone.

  • that sound has more fuzz on it than the bottom of my bag---- you paid for that? It sounds like one of those original Peavey 5150 pieces of shit that I'm glad to get rid of.

  • I asking myself why voodoo called THIS "Jose Mod". For me, a better name would be "Cletus mod".

  • Not exactly a good captured sound bot bad either. Perhaps in the room sound is better

  • いい音だ(^o^)

  • sounds like a pod or some amp modeler

  • Doesn't sound like my jose head

  • Killer tone. I like it.

  • Great tone. However, if it's the Brown sound you're after it doesn't come close. This sounds more like a heavy metal sound, but the mic'ing and recording equipment could have something to do with it.

  • I will tell you that I have a 100 W plexi modded by Jose - he added tons of gain and a very sort of confusing system - after many hours of playing with it you get a great tone - this clip is close and this amp sounds great.......similar in ways the amp that Jose returned to me. The rrguitar guy is incorrect......

  • if you wanted to play this stuff, why would you even want to go through the trouble of having to mod it. you can get that type of sound with about any master volume amp

  • yikes ,i mean why not a boogie or krank ,, thats cool i guess , but i had a plexi yrs ago it didnt sound like this ,,not slandering this mind you but man thats alot of frigg'n gain ..sounds like a peavey 5050 series im just kinda freaked about all that mass gain ...were getting old boys < (to all old plexi players )

  • @GiannisSta8hs but plexis are the best amps for metal

  • Bad ass amp dude.

  • What kind of mod did you have done? I have the JCM 800 RI and I want to get a mod done to get more of the power saturation sound at lower volumes. Any suggestions?

  • Sound is simply amazing!

  • What is the difference in the new marshall plexi reissues that have the JMP on it and the one that has the MKII on it.

  • What is the difference in the new marshall plexi reissues that have a JMP on it and the one that has a MKII on it.

  • Sounds like my Peavey Valveking!

  • lol

  • really u pay that much for this amp damn a dual roadster from mesa boogie easy defeat this amp

  • wow what a growl!,this amp is just dripping crunch and tube harmonics,it is so thick and juicey.i love this sound.never heard a voodoo mod with this much character.you got a special one.this can not be just straight in guitar to amp,you must be boosting it in?.whats the set up.are you power breaking it,i hear some reverb.exactly whats the setup you are using to get this sound.your mic placement is dead on.this is a great Thrash/Classic/Doom metal sound.i want one!

  • This is terrible tone

  • sounds good but turn down the bass and the gain down. add a little mids, and you've got a brown sound.

  • I hear distotion not gain, all diods.

    Junk.

  • @conjering

the jose mod uses diodes... My favorite is not voodoo by any means, but diode clipping was a huge thing in the jose mod design.

  • The Jose mod sounds very cool, but preamp gain all way's sounds better. I am going to post a clip soon on a mod I did using preamp gain only, it also haves a solo boost and an fx loop. Hopefully I'll remember to post a clip.

  • Pretty much.

  • Its spelled diode genius.

  • Lol

  • By the way James, you look like a zombie on Crack, and get real guitar.

  • You actually spent 1200£ on a Handwired and you MODded it?Olé José! lol!!! Scotty? beam me up, there's no intelligent life form here...

  • sound great!

  • Is this just plugged into the front end of the amp? What guitar?

  • I have a Jose Arredondo head and this sounds nothing like it

  • laney's AOR sounded better than some average modded marshall - they came out of the laney like if they where hot rodded inside the factory !

the best sounding british 30 W combo & the only 1 with a closed box + a decent fane-speaker better than any celestion have been in the AOR 30 incl. 2 CH !!!

only prublum - power trafo was underrated & liked to burn.....

  • Sorry, THIS is NOT a Jose mod, Jose is rolling over in his grave right now, cause of this clip.

  • @speedburnervideo is "jose supposed to be eddies tech Jose Arendondo?

  • There are so many models around this time that there is no need to modify something. Then again is a matter of personal taste , if that what you look for and find it in a plexi or a mode or whatever.

  • mick mars used jcm 800s didnt he?

  • He used SLP's, JCM800's, Soldanos, and Rivieras.

  • why would you use a plexi to play metal?

  • All metal bands did in the 80's.

Ratt, Dokken, Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax etc.

  • they werent plexis they were master volume amps that looked like plexis

  • Warren DeMartini, George Lynch used unmodified Marshall 1959SLP, so they where plexis.. they both switched to Soldano ~1990 though.

Mick Mars, James Hetfield and Scott Ian used modified amps.

Mick Mars just had the master volume installed, while Hetfield and Scott Ian had modifications done to the preamp as well.

  • warren and lynch USED moddified marshalls

  • what about DiMartini using AOR Laneys FIRST before marshalls on the first Ratt LP, those were insane and his clarity LIVE killed Crosby's marshall tone, maybe cause he used too much effects to hide his lack of chops against DiMar ;)

  • The AOR is basically a JCM 800-clone so. ;P

And yeah, any amp, but especially vintage Marshalls sound better the fewer pedals/effects you use.

  • Because plexis are an excellent modding platform

  • sounds horrible compared to mark camerons jose mod

  • To me that kinda sounds like a Peavey with that mod, reminds me of the 3120 I tried at a GC

  • great "mod". made what was once one of the best marshall amps sound like a crate. congrats!

  • crank it. it wont have this kind of distortion but

  • Poopify. Why would you want this sound is my question. It sucks real bad. More than the way it sounds to you, you there is lots of "noise" in the sound displayed in the video, and it will kill your hearing. I can guarantee that. You will lose db's around the frequency range of 4k hertz. I promise you wil. Be care fooling around with "noise". You want guitar crunch, not noise. There is a big difference. Good luck and treasure your hearing like you would your eye site. :)

  • U know, different ppl have different views on sound. If you prefer crunch, you can judge him cause he likes distortion. Personally i like this sound very much, as lot of people that heard it too.

  • Yes, I know, its that mega death sort of sound and thats fine. That's not what you are hearing in this video. My point was to give forth caution. Lots of you guys that lack knowledge of what your really doing when it comes to getting a good sound are putting your hearing, and anybody who listens to it hearing at risk. I been around in the sound business for a long time, Many many have damaged their hearing with "noise" from distorted guitars. This sound is not so bad if I take out the 4k hertz.

  • what type of mod is in this amp is it the standerd ,deluxe ,platnium

  • I would love to hear it through the 5150iii 4x12 with the 20's in it.

  • you mean 200s right?

  • No. 20 watt speakers. They break up nicely.

  • Oh, I thought you were referring to the 200 watt Van Halen speakers. I like the 200 watt Zakk Wylde EV's.

  • EVH's are 20's actually.

  • Oh i'm stupid sorry, i got 2/3s of it right at least!

  • wow thats such an amazing tone i want it!!!!!!

  • YEZZ OMGFGGZZ!!

  • ehh kind of thin sounding yes....probably because that cab seems a little weird...

greenback would make that thing scccrreeaaammmmm

  • well you gotta remember, youtube as well as cheap camera mic can ruin the sound quality.

  • is this the platinum mod? how well does it do at band volumes? i think i want ot get this. i'd also like to know what guitar you were playing

  • It sounds more like distortion than gain. sounds like diods at work on the mixer resistors. It's missing tone.

  • i thnk it could be the way he miced it. maybe put the mic fyurther away from teh speakers and higher the mic so that it doesnt dirct to the speakers. pretty much where your ears would be when standing up.

  • that is BY FAR the SICKEST sound ive heard in my life, lucky you thats all i can say.

  • Badass!

  • That's epic sounding, but one question... does it also do cleans at all?

  • Jimi Hendrix? Never heard of the dude.

  • Had a laugh at this one :)

    sancintin is a fool.

  • @gaggleofbombers LOL. Good response.

  • @gaggleofbombers your kidding right?

  • @gaggleofbombers true man. i never personally like most of jimis games. some of them are nice but most are not. i just dont understand whats with all these ppl making jimi or even yet, angus to be "THE" aiming point when playing with a marshall. ever heard of those ppl that play a part of that ACDC or jimi part that gets tiring?.

  • @gaggleofbombers

are you fucking kidding me? never heard of jimi hendrix? why do you even have a marshall plexi then?!

  • @Pajosucks You're retarded aren't you? You never heard of "SARCASM"..I suggest you go down to the DNA store and pick up some common sense..ASAP!

  • @PinkyWontWork

thank god that it was sarcasm.

  • @gaggleofbombers r u kidding me? u own a modded marshall but havent heard of the greatest guitar player of all time?

  • @bucprime he was being sarcastic!!

  • @gaggleofbombers I think Hendrix was the guy who played in Van Halen. :-)

  • take it easy tough guy. we just demoing an amp, not bragging that its the "be all end all" of all amps.

  • @sancintin whats your problem? plexi can play metal too there not only for jimi hendrix

  • wow, that sounds fucking amazing!

  • Holy shit!! This sounds amazing!! Nice job!! A couple of questions: What guitar are you playing through and what tuning? 2) what effects and 3) what speakers are in that cab? God, that sounded amazing

  • omg..... what a tone. what guitar are you using? strat? it s already thick as thick as great wall of china

  • Funny, cause Jose didnt add gain to the plexi at all, it was a resistor.. also, the amp NEVER had that much gain to it, so where do they come up with this "Jose Mod" the amp was cranked and tweaked slightly to be warmer at higher volumes, EVH did not use lots of gain, yet this amp seems to have tons of it.

  • You don't know what your talking about. Jose did lots of high gain mods for pretty much a "who's who" list of Hard Rock/Metal players in the 80's. Nobody knows what, if anything, Jose did to EVH's amp(s).

  • Actually, anymore, it seems to be most likely that EVH's tone was a mixture of re-amping his Marshall(may or may not include variacing) and the addition of the JBL d-120 speakers which bring in the top end sparkle. As for Jose Arredondo, yes, his work was widely varied, and the list of who's who using his stuff in 80's rock was very long. This particular Plexi here, definitely has more gain than EVH was using, and the point being??????

  • Oh, and greenbacks as well.

  • Yeah, even EVH admits that he only mentioned Jose A. to "throw people off" and to help Jose with his mod business (late 70s---before the big guitar mod boom of the 80s). EVH's core tone according to him, Bogner (who restored his original plexi), and other was from a stock late 60's Plexi with everything dimed. If you dime one you'll here pure Van Halen II tone. Its actually quite simple. A little eq, cabinet tweeks, and phase 90 round off the sound.

  • Does "diming" mean turn everything to 10?

  • Yes

  • or 11....hehe

  • @rrguitar1

Edward lied alot about his gear, his influences, and his age. In fact, he lied about just about everything. Early pictures of the amp clearly showed an added master volume.

  • @whistlindick The master volume you're referring to wasn't hooked up. Eddie's amp was bone stock. Lots of guys have been able to nail his tone with nothing more than a cranked 12000 series '68 plexi.

  • @whistlindick Agree 100% - The only "Brown Sound" EV ever got was when he was taking a shit!

  • @rrguitar1 Jose did several different amp Mods and we have worked on numerous Jose Modded amps. Yes some had more gain than what you hear in this video clip and some had less gain. Over all it came down to how you set the controls. We have a Custom version of the Mod with Gain controls and some push/pull features. We install them on a Custom basis depending on a customers needs. We also worked on the amp Mick Mars used to record the Motley Crue record "Dr Feelgood" and there are 3 Gain controls.

  • i have a jcm 800 2204 there right now too getting a platinum mod done. and yes the wait is killing me.ive been waiting 4 weeks. but trace has been really cool i feel bad cause ive been calling them to see whats up.i guess they are really bussy.he has been more than apologetic it will be worth the wait im sure though.

  • eeek! why would yo mod that beautiful handwired tone machine?!?

  • Voodoo Amps has my Marshall Vintage Modern right now doing their Platinum Mod to it. The wait is KILLING me. I can't wait to get this thing. I know the tone will kick ass. The guys at Voodoo were some of the nicest, most helpful people I've ever dealt with in this industry. HIGHLY recommend them even though I haven't even gotten my amp back yet to play through.

I decided to use Voodoo after seeing this clip. Thanks!

  • Voodoo Amps has mine right now it's anJCM 900 they are the only one to offer mods for it because of the reverb I believe but the wait is killing me also I know exactly whay you mean.... Did you get it back yet I noticed this was a week ago is it awesome or what that is if you got it....

  • I have not received it yet. They received some wrong parts so they had to wait for the correct ones to come in.

I'm going crazy waiting. I feel like an 8 year old waiting for Christmas.

  • I know man it's killing me also I'm like a kid in a candy shop...lol cheers bro

  • are you nuts ?!

  • not really

  • Sweet amp, 1.) You using any effects or is that just the amp? 2.)is there any knobs they put on the back panel. 3.) thats alot of low end and you bass knob is low, does that thing really have that much low end? Im thinking about voodoo doing my mod thats why im asking

  • i just fell in love with a plexi all over agen. channle switching on that and your set.

  • That sounds ballsy as hell! Voodoo know how to rod'em.

  • there was a merc output tranny from VooDoo in there. Not a lower voltage power tranny. Nothing was done besides the HG Jose Mod by VooDoo.

  • Did Voodoo install a [brown]voltage dropped MM tranny? What all else was done in the mod? Thanks,Kevin

  • Trace and voodoo absolutely rule, can't say enough!
