When you unbuckle, your driver is more likely to have a crash because you become a DISTRACTION to them since they become worried about not only your safety, but everyone else in the car.

They're saying 'expect the unexpected', with the underlying message of 'always keep your seatbelt on'.

So sure, its unlikely this would ever happen, but there are other situations were people take off their seatbelt to grab something off the car floor for a few seconds, and something comes from nowhere and hits you.

I remember one ad, it was in the early 1990's which showed a woman with a little boy rushing to get to daycare so she takes a shortcut through a residential area. As she speeds along she turns to talk to her kid in the back seat just as a little boy runs out from his garden after his ball. Scared me to death that one, I had nightmares for weeks it was so powerful. I would like to see that one again if anyone has a link

Sure, it's important to understand the consequences, but some people don't want to know about it, and they zone out. Shock value, IMO, does not work. She was my Physio at the time this ad was filmed.
