Katie could've severely injured either the driver or front passenger or both in addition to herself for not being unbelted - if the windshield didn't break. This happened in another TAC ad called 'Pinball'.
Stupid Katie, there are plenty of much better times she could've whispered to Chris (driver), couldn't he have at least waited until they were out of the car.
When you unbuckle, your driver is more likely to have a crash because you become a DISTRACTION to them since they become worried about not only your safety, but everyone else in the car.
Strictly speaking, someone in an accident like that is lucky if they're going through PT to walk again, as most in such an impact would be killed or permanently brain damaged.
@furstenfeldbruck You are literally the stupidest person that has ever commented on any of my videos and you have missed the point by such a large margin I'm quite honestly laughing my head off. Bravo.
i really hate your descriptions. seriously buddy, these ads are extremely realistic and happen thousands of times, and the ad is trying to remind you why it's important not to think that any time is a good time to take off your seat belt when driving. she doesnt ''wonder why she's all pissed off'', she is acknowledging the huge price she is having to pay for one simple mistake.
For all those saying its the pedestrians fault, you are 100% correct. He was probably either drugged up, suicidal or just an idiot. But think about the actual POINT of the ad.
They're saying 'expect the unexpected', with the underlying message of 'always keep your seatbelt on'.
So sure, its unlikely this would ever happen, but there are other situations were people take off their seatbelt to grab something off the car floor for a few seconds, and something comes from nowhere and hits you.
I remember one ad, it was in the early 1990's which showed a woman with a little boy rushing to get to daycare so she takes a shortcut through a residential area. As she speeds along she turns to talk to her kid in the back seat just as a little boy runs out from his garden after his ball. Scared me to death that one, I had nightmares for weeks it was so powerful. I would like to see that one again if anyone has a link
people think the worse thing that could happen is death from accidents...no, the worse thing is having to suffer the consequences of learning to walk, talk ect. .like the poor girl in this ad.
@marskii177 How is that racist?! I was referring to her accent! I actually ended up finding out that she's South African/Afrikaans, from a guy I know who used to date her; hence the reason she has a more nasal accent with a sharper pronunciation of 'knee'. No offense was intended... I genuinely thought the ad had been dubbed. I think marskii177 is a little bit too sensitive...
ok this is a good ad for people to put there seat belts on but that situation was fuckin UNreal! A pedestrian just happened to be running to through a 6 lane highway with heavy traffic, yeah right. This would be suicide cause noone in their right mind is running through a highway!Good point of the ad but retarded reconstruction!
I seriously don't understand why people are not getting the point of the adverts when there's an end caption that explains it. Wait a minute, I understand now. It's YouTube, and the general public are so retarded it's a wonder they can find their own hands.
@wuzzlevideos No, it's because the disgust they feel when they first see the videos, people would rather tune out than take the lesson with them. Sure, it's important to understand the consequences, but some people don't want to know about it, and they zone out. Shock value, IMO, does not work. It creates a surreal scenario and people don't want to know about the horrible suffering as a result of such things.
@Quicksilver1111 well it has worked, the road toll when the TAC aired their first commercial was 774, in 2010 that had dropped to 291. So its clearly working
All the Medical Professionals in these ads are real.
The Physio in this ad is a real Physio called Mary-Anne.
She was my Physio at the time this ad was filmed.
I also know a Doctor from another TAC ad dealing with drunk driving and getting a blood sample with no bedside manner. He's like this in real life too.
That wasnt a freeway That was Tompsons road in Victoria which up untill about a year ago was one of the worst roads in the state. It claimed 14 lives over two years.
You are slow. The point is that while you are driving ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. The car in front of you can stop. Some idiot could be driving in the wrong direction. An animal can come out of nowhere. The point is to always wear you seatbelt.
Serve the bitch right? I know there has to have been at least one time when you didn't wear your seatbelt. And humans make mistakes and do stupid things sometimes. No one deserves to have to relearn how to walk again. Would you say the same thing if something like that happened to your family or friends? No you wouldn't unless you're a sociopath. Have a little empathy.
Wuzzle, people make mistakes! What's with the negativity? Why the hell are you calling her a silly bint? Jeez. Quit with the borderline misogynist comments.
My commentary is intended to be a wry look at the adverts, with a hint of comedy, and possibly a bit of satire. I don't have any malice at all, I'm possibly the most vocal person for road safety in my group of friends.
I may have been on every five minutes, but fifteen years on I still remember that ad and buckle up everytime. Thrashed or not this ad was very effective in getting people to buckle up.
All the more reason to wear seat belts. It prevents occupants from being thrown about inside the car, and thus, reducing injury.
