  • I love this song

  • 1 person that dislikes this has his back to the wall.

  • DVD release of this now, please Mr Waters.

  • Drum work is amazing. PLUS, the guitar fill at 0:30 gave me chills.

  • mason is pure, class

  • I heard The Wall for the first time when I was 8 or 9 years old (beautiful 90's), and I liked every song. But when I listened "What Shall We Do Now" (movie)... man!! I threw all my Menudo and Parchís shit away and I began to be a rocker. A short time later I discovered Hard Rock music, kind of music I'm still loving. But "Pinky" made me grow, and this song was the trigger.

  • 1 person didn't buy a new guitar

  • awsum

  • CLASSIC!!!

  • Holy fucking shit balls Roger's voice is fucking amazing here, totally predicting the emo scream style that shitty bands today use.

My Chemical Romance's Black Parade owe a huge debt to Roger, this album, and that amazing fucking voice.

  • This shit is da shit! :)

  • @jjobie You got dat shit right.

  • yes morrowindsky is correct. the only similarity between calling someone shit and calling them the shit is the word shit.

  • Holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiit!! : D D D

    Art = salvation

  • floyd is the shit

  • This music is perfect, perfect, perfect!

  • This tour was the shit!!

  • can't wait to see this live, also they need to remaster this and release it on dvd as well as nine inch nails' lights in the sky tour

  • great vid

  • Looking forward to hearing this on the tour.

  • Amused to death was a Masterpiece. The other guys were great musicians together. It truly hurt when Gilmour didn't want to do a reunion tour. I love him to death and he is the best musician out of them, but he had a bad attitude through Live 8. Roger was totally humble. It seems like he has a great outlook now. I never thought I would see the day. Dave should have done it for the fans.

  • THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If it wasn't for Roger the band would have been awful. Compare Amused to Death to the last two Floyd albums.

  • Thank You

    Good Evening

    Welcome!

    Classic Roger Waters

  • For all the Pink Floyd's fans! There's a new version of "IF" (atom heart mother) on myspace gariac. Enjoy it on myspace gariac popmusik!

  • I don't get why this song wasn't in the album?

  • @GreatDestructo

They wanted to inclued it but the album was too long for a double vinyl. They but empty spaces instead. But this is stil an important part of the story.

  • @alby711 fuck off, roger has talent but he cant play guitar anything like david, hes mainly good at writing material but he has a pretty shitty voice!!!

  • @ericcarrtime all the concept albums were thought of by Roger from dsom to the final cut. Without him there is no concept behind Pink Floyd, just empty spaces and riffs. Rogers art turns that into something awesome... art rock.

  • he was a fuckin dictator!!!! calling dave a douchebag is like saying roger wrote all the guitar solos and all the music.

  • that was kinda harsh but I honestly do feel like Roger did a majority of things bc he truly is an artist and artists need control. And since no one else would write, Roger, being the artist he is, took control. but i guess i just don't like dave cuz he won't get over it. during an interview he said "hell no" (or something to that affect) when asked if a reunion was in the future. Then a few months later Rick dies. That just upset me as a fan you know?

  • I get where you're comin from, i guess its just one floyd fan preferring dave arguing with one who prefers roger, its only natural.

  • I totally agree with you. David was not a perfect guy either, and people are always viewing him as a saint. I am totally on Rogers side, and I don't really view him as a dictator. He was just trying to come up with new material and nobody else was as good of a writer as he was and that must have put a lot of pressure on him.

  • i love waters voice

  • its not bad....its more unique than good though...

  • yeah its very unique

  • its still listenable, except for dont leave me now

  • @ericcarrtime your a fuckin idiot and you have no taste in music

  • all the members from PF were awesome

  • Totally agreed. (:

  • I LOVE THE DRUMS IN THIS SONG

  • Nick Mason is the shit

  • For all people giving SadMoonBabies all the thumbs down, here's a little hint:

The phrase, "the shit," designates that the person being described as such is excellent at whatever they may do. In fact, it is a compliment.

"The shit" is not to be confused with just "shit," as that would be an insult.

Example: If I were to say that Roger Waters is the shit, that would mean he's awesome.

There's your lesson for today, kids.

  • @morrowindsky Lesson learned, when listening to music from the old days, don't use new age slang. Old people get angry.(no offense)

  • @morrowindsky

right after u posted that comment, did u notice how the amount of thumbs he got? haha

  • @morrowindsky We don't need no education! lol felt like the right time to say it.

  • @morrowindsky Waters is the shit (thanks for the teaching!). I had forgotten what a great band was Floyd with him. I mean, It's still a great band, but sadly a broken one, incomplete. Gilmour by himself is too "sober" for the band, Waters is a kind of essential part of PF, indispensable, irreplaceable, and so necessary for the Floyd's balance.

  • Pink Floyd whether this beginning of the end crap is all important they made good stuff in every era of their music

  • Thank You,, Good Evening, Welcome...

  • q buen tema!!!

  • the surrogate band was a part of the wall tour, these shows cost a ton of money for the floyd back then, one may never know all that went on with PF, but I do believe this wall album was the begining of the end for PF, nevertheless there music was and still is awesome

  • Comforably numb is, in my opinion, the GREATEST Gilmour solo

  • Why this song wasnt put on the studio version of THE WALL i'll never know

  • because it was made on vynal records, they didnt have cds, so they didnt have enough room to put it on the record

  • They did not have enough room.

  • I know, I meant that it sucked that they couldnt put it on the original studio version, thats all

  • It wasn't on the original album because it was too long. They decided they had to cut some of the songs that had been written out to keep it down to just a double LP. In fact, this song was dropped at a very late stage, because the lyric sheets had already been finalized for the first string of pressings.

I dunno if it was changed later, but my LP copy lists this song on the lyric sheet, which also lists Hey You as the song on side three, and The Show Must Go On has an extra verse, as well.

  • Too long my ass. Just two minutes of additional music, the length of first LP would increase from about 39:00 to 41:00, making it about 21 minutes per side, what's wrong with that? Maximum capacity of a single LP was about 25-30 minutes per side. It's such a stupidity that they dropped it, because for me it is really one of the highlights of the entire concept.

No such feelings about LP2 though, "The Show" wasn't a particularly great song, so we really needn't another verse.

  • Yes, you can have as much as about 35 minutes on an LP, but the sound quality becomes compromised above about 20 minutes. You lose dynamic range, and you also the bottom end. Also, because the grooves are packed tighter, they become much more fragile, making any wear or damage more catastrophic than something that's shorter.

Though thinking about it now, I'm not sure what difference cutting such a short song from the LP would have made.

  • "Wish You Were Here" was 44:28 long (21 minutes side one and 23:28 side two) yet the sound quality was excellent. The second LP of the very record we're talking about (The Wall) was almost 42 minutes long. Double Genesis album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" had two over 45-minute LP's. Why couldn't they make side one of first disc longer by 2 minutes or so, is beyond me.

  • why was'nt hey you in the movie?

  • Not sure. Maybe Alan Parker (who was the guy who was REALLY in charge of the movie, despite Roger's best efforts) thought what they filmed didn't work as well, or maybe Parker or someone at the studio thought the film was too long, though I'm not sure how cutting a five minute song would make it "suitably short enough for the cinemaplex" or whatever.

  • the footage they shot, didn't really fit into the movie as a whole. Plus i think it was scrapped to conserve time

  • Damn this fucking owns

  • What is the point of a second drummer playing with Nick Mason?!?! I cant figure that out!

Waters criticized the reformed Pink Floyd in 1987 of using support musicians. Yet he brought in support musicians to play with the band for live shows of 'Animals' and 'The Wall'. Go figure

The only thing I didn't like about the reformed Pink Floyd live shows especially during the 'Pulse' tour were the female singers.

  • I think it's Willy Watson, they have 1 extra keyboard player, 1 extra guitarist and an extra drummer I think.

  • they also have an extra bass player because in run like hell a shot of the other bass player in a roger waters mask comes up on the screen also during the 1st in the flesh pink floyd isnt on stage it is doubles with masks on thats why during in the flesh waters has cuirley hair and on the thin ice he doesnt

  • He (Willie Wilson - the 2nd drummer) was part of the "Surrogate Band" that opened the show and is mentioned so many times throughout the narrative.

If you watch a lot of the videos posted from "The Wall" live shows, he's just playing a tambourine or a cowbell. But as for why they decided to have him double Nick's part on this (and other) songs - anyone's guess is as good as mine.

  • I remember seeing "p.f. the wall" on the marquees of the movie theaters when I was seven and just knew something special was coming out of it...gotta love the weed driven '70's!

  • The Wall movie came out in '82.

  • Wow, really? I remember I was way too young to see it but, yeah, thanks for the correction! :D

  • Too bad they ran out of time to put this on the album...This is nice.

  • Nice is a bit of an understatement, hmm?

  • yes....and "when the tigers broke free" as well

  • They put that on a re-release of The Final Cut.

  • i know my thoughts exactly

  • great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a ok ,,,thanks!!

  • this song is fantastic..i don't know how PF didn't put it on the wall studio album....

    It's something fantastic i think...don't?

  • Because at the time, LPs could hold so much and no more. There wasn't any room on the original album.

  • this song is actually soooo heavy and hard rock!! This is why Roger Waters is a genius, he incorporates all the good things of music in his writting. I love this song!!!

  • You hit the nail in the head! That is so true! Roger was and still a great songwriter. Dave was and is a great guitar player. With Nick and Richard, they were the greatest ban we have seen!

  • Fuck this riff's sweet

  • when PF did the wall shows, they used a duplicate for each band member, a surrogate band if you would, which was a part of the shows, I do believe. these guys were awesome in there day

  • cos of the line in In The Flesh - "So they sent us along, as a surrogate band, etc." when Pink has gone all dictator.

  • this may be a stupid question but, why are there two drummers?? i regonise nick mason but whos the other guy and why is he there?? they both seem to be playing the same beats to the letter :S thanks

  • The other drummer's name is Willie Wilson. They had to have extra band members because the sound had to be larger. oh, and so that roger could sing without playing bass.

  • i love the drums of this song T-T

  • I wish they kept this in the album :(

  • somebody gets bitchy quick! Jesus Christ calm down.

  • yeah I know but I'm tired of these kind of comments, the song IS on the movie, wat you're complaining about? two versions is better than one

  • Hey Mouloudo, you know what Floyd should of done? Do ya? They should of included this song on The Wall album. That's what they should of done Mouloudo, don't you agree?

  • They wanted to but it was too long already, but I like what they have done to the Empty Spaces -> Young Lust bridge on the album, it's cool too

  • this is a good soog is number two after anpther brick in the wall

  • Every once in a while I think that I have outgrown the melodrama of late Pink Floyd in general (and The Wall in particular) then I remember songs like this - an outtake, for god's sake. While my relationship to this album may ebb and flow over time, I just have to admit it has more brilliant moments than I can count.

What a treat to see this live clip. Prior to youtube I had always heard there were unreleased pro shots from this tour. Great to see. Thanks for posting.

  • this song was replaced in the vinyl by empty spaces. the couldnt put both because the vinyl couldnt take 2 more minutes

  • no, no that can't be.. this song really hurts deep inside.. lov' it. love this song.. back to the wall!

  • "Thank you, good evening,welcome."

  • Gets me pumbed! AWSOME song.

Only wish it was on the album.

  • the live album has it "is there anybody out there:the wall live 1980-1981"

and i like some of ther live stuff better

  • Greatest. Intro. Ever. Gets me going every time!

  • If only this song wasn't left out of the album itself. Its a good song.

  • This song rules. WSWDN, what a great fucking song. SO INTENSE, vocally, lyrically, and musically!

  • pink rules

  • DVD is avalaible of this concert? I have Waters' The wall from 1990 but this one is better i think :s

  • I first heard this when Waters did the Wall in Berlin, For a short filler it doesnt half fuckin kick ass. Anybody with depression or simply disillusioned and fed up with life today. This should be played to them to show them what they feel is natural and they are far from alone in their gloominess

  • Why on earth did they not include this on the original album???

  • They didn't have room for it on the original vinyl version. Hopefully, since the 30th anniversary is approching, maybe they'll relaese it.

  • one of the best songs of the disc though it's not on the original release of the wall

  • Definately one of their best songs, running up right after Another Brick in the Wall.

  • im 11 and pink floyds my favorite band

  • me too my dad plays them on his guitar and took me to which ones pink (look them up on utube) and loved them ever since

  • W-T-F its pink floyd DAMN im 23 and I LOVE IT

  • HEL YEAH!!!!!

  • O-M-G
