  • omg this wronski is a fool

  • not true to the book at all

  • Sorry Kevin but that hand stand sucked, even for a drunk.

  • What I find interesting is that a woman who saw this film told me that she thought Anna was CRAZY for leaving Stephen Dillane.

An interesting paradox is that Karenin is a politician. But yet he's the symbol of truth, morals and integrity in this story.

  • Kevin McKidd is amazing in this movie. People alot of the time have him in sometime of uniform of authority. He looks so hot in.

  • anna looks elegant here.......... her eyes has sadness inside

  • I prefer the Sean Bean / Sophie Marceau version. I believed the chemistry and tragedy so much more. Helen Mcroy and Kevin McKidd are excellent actors

  • This Vronsky acts like a clown, I prefer Sean Bean, he was marvelous and so handsome. And Anna is too old here and Karenin too young!!! I like the some things of this version but I don't remember the characters to be that way in the book...

  • This is the only version I watched but I obviously like the book better. There, Tolstoy describes the feeling in the very detail - something a movie can never do. However, I like this movie although it is somewhat inconsistent with the book which is nevertheless understandable.

  • sophie marceau is THE only Anna for me

  • was the handstand stuff in the book?

  • grown woman has to have her husband tell when to go to be and tuck her in??? not me that 's for sure...It's time for bed? well got to bed then and leave me alone.. lol

  • this women who play first role is actually very simple women in real life I think, her body language awful...

  • Her circles look so dark...

  • i wouldn't mind having Karenin around... maybe that's just because im really sarcastic...

  • WHOO Vronsky is HOT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy is coming on to her kinda stalkerish!

  • @trinigir14 If KMcK was stalking me that would be just fine! :)

  • Wow, I love the guy´s penetrance!

  • Oh Karenin! Such a loving, caring husband! Not.

I don't like Vronsky being blonde though. I always imagined him with black hair. And Karenin older.

  • So her husband is more attractive than he is, and less of an oaf, and an upright public figure, and ...she's drawn to this spoiled little, plain kid who could be her son?

  • @ Jacobitess; Well, it makes more sense in the book. I would have cast a much older Karenin, myself (in the book he's 20 years older than her and only got married because it would help him in his career).

  • For me the perfect pair would be Kevin McKidd as Vronsky and Sophie Marceau as Anna!!!

  • I think I am the only person who thinks this is the best Anna! I pictured her as a mature beauty, Kitty was the one who is youthful and pretty.

  • i like this anna....... i LOVE helen mccrory! (i like helena bonham carter a lot more, but helen is second!) this anna is..... perfect, in every way!

  • No, you are not! I agree with you, it is a matter of passion, not kindergarten first love. Kitty talks about it, exactly.

  • @dhgjas - I think she's supposed to be a mature beauty but this woman looks too plain to be a mature beauty.

  • anna look tooooooooo old for this role

  • Did you read the book, sweetheart?

  • I'm about 3/4 of the way done with this book, and I've watched the Sean Bean version up unto the point I'm at in the book. I was disappointed by the 1997 version, and thought the BBC version would be remarkably better. So far, my worst complaint with this version is the casting. Anna is older looking than I imagined her, and I find her husband more attractive than Vronsky, which is obviously not right. Oh well, I'm sure it will grow on me.

  • @wilmabignose - Anna does look too old and plain and I think Karenin looks more attractive than Vronsky. The guy they picked for Vronsky just looks wrong.

  • @wilmabignose just for comparison, most Jane Eyres are hardly age appropriate as well...would you rather Anna not have acted convincingly?

  • @bossladydewitt That's very true as well. It's even harder to forgive with Jane Eyre because she's supposed to be straight out of school. When they cast a middle aged woman in that role, it shifts the relationship she has with Rochester and somehow takes away the credibility of her innocence.

In Anna Karenina, one of most important relationships is that of Vronsky and Anna. Because they are originally drawn to each other by physical attraction, and I find neither of these actors to be

  • @bossladydewitt

aesthetically pleasing, I have a hard time understanding how they came together on that level. The acting is compotent, however, and makes their interaction believable. Simply put, my first impression of these characters wasn't what I had hoped it to be, but even with that fault, it's still a decent adaptation.

  • @wilmabignose Yes, there are some flaws in the casting, although they act perfect. Anna is good, But Lievin is more attractive than Vronsky. He should look more attractive in a distinct way... Anyway, good lucky with the book: it's breathtaking...

  • @wilmabignose Anna Karenina [DVD] [1977] with Nicola Pagett as Anna is my absolute favourite version - it's truly epic, true to the book and the acting is fantastic. It's available on Amazon.

  • He has gone insane...
