Don't forget that Paulie was cooking sausage when Henry had to apologize to him for going behind his back and selling drugs. Paulie's upset because Henry has gone against the "noble" traditions and honor code of the old mafia, and you can hear the sausage sizzling when he says "Now I gotta turn my back on you."
What I love about this movie is that most of the scenes were shot exactly where the film claims they were. In this clip (shot in East New York, Brooklyn), you notice that the backyard of Paulie's house is small and enclosed in a chain link fence. Beyond the fence you can see the empty lots which are over grown by weeds. This is exactly the condition that the neighborhood was in during the 80's and early 90's.
Paulie offered protection, Police Dept for wise guys. people who couldnt go to the cops. Sounds fimiliar. HAAAAAA Offering protection. getting to much cream.
@ebandd yepp true i from brooklyn and it feels like u been in their life style i been to the same shit that why i love this movie and that why i like the mafia movies cause it shows how a man always have his lifestyle how he grow up in a bad life .. and feels like the same to any peson that grow up tuff
@NJsBiggestAssHole Basically they would shakedown criminals for tribute. Yes in turn the cops would turn their backs and sometimes other protections would result, like from outsiders moving in on a dealer's territory, etc. Yes a large part of that protection was of the "you won't sleep with the fishes until its time for the next tribute" type.
I know this was 9 years before The Sopranos came out but whenever I think of Tony Sirico (Paulie). I think of those those little grey streaks of hair he had on both side of his head. Werid seeing him without them.
Do you think the scene where they're cooking in prison in kind of a homage to the scene in The Godfather where Clemenza is teaching Michael how to cook?
The movies have made me glad to not be an Italian American, you know due to the horrible deaths and all.
