The verses mean exactly what they say – kill or convert the idolaters and dominate the people of the scripture (mostly meaning Christians and Jews). There are attempts made by some Muslim groups to reinterpret those and other "fiery" suras, and I am glad that those attempts are made.

@xainpk Sura 9:1 – 9:4 are context enough. Sura 9:1 – "[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists." Muhammad is breaking all previous treaties with the polytheists. Sura 9:2 – 9:3 gives an ultimatum to those tribes.

If a person has a choice between living as a second class citizen and conversion he is also forced into the religion. If a persons only way out of slavery is conversion it is also forcing him into the religion. @xainpk I have red the whole book, some of the Hadith and do know my history. The verses mean exactly what they say – kill or convert the idolaters and dominate the people of the scripture (mostly meaning Christians and Jews). There are attempts made by some Muslim groups to reinterpret those and other "fiery" suras, and I am glad that those attempts are made.

And I haven't found anything that could ever pose threat to any innocent civilian lives, islam gives us the right to defend ourselves for KAFIRS (another name for non muslim), and if ur christian u would call us non believers similarly. Islam doesn't force conversion upon anyone, yes i'm aware there have been leaders that did that in the past but the crusaders have done that in the name of christ as well.

@xainpk Sura 9:1 – 9:4 are context enough. Sura 9:1 – "[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists." Muhammad is breaking all previous treaties with the polytheists. Sura 9:2 – 9:3 gives an ultimatum to those tribes.

If a person has a choice between living as a second class citizen and conversion he is also forced into the religion. If a persons only way out of slavery is conversion it is also forcing him into the religion. Add to it the colonization, kidnapping and brainwashing done by Muslims you will have a more complete view of Islam's rapid spread. Spred that, in truth, was not as rapid as some say.

How were small armies able to conquer a territory with a population estimated at around four million, and in so brief a time? some historians sustain that there could have been mass conversion to Islam. peasants were better off and had more freedom as Muslims and the Jews didn't convert, but still escaped the persecution they suffered under Christian rule.

I know the Bible doesn't say Yahweh is the Messiah, it says Yahweh is the LORD AND SAVIOR of all mankind LONG before these titles were applied to the Messiah (Jesus). Does the Old Testament teach that the Messiah is Divine? Absolutely not, it doesn't say the Messiah WILL be Divine (but only a ruler, Micah 5:2) nor teaches 'the Messiah' is God. Proof? Every single verse in the OT that mentions 'Anointed' (Ps. 2:2, 18:50, 20:6, 28:8, 84:9, 89:105:12, 132:10, 17) does NOT teach a divine Messiah!
