It was an unfair trail and should have been thrown out due to lack of evidence and unreliability of witnesses as well as falsification of evidence and the courts refusal to accept testimonies from witnesses who spoke Italian.
Though historians might not agree on the guilt or innocence of the two men, we can all agree they were not given a fair trial by any means.
Historians have not reached a consensus regarding their guilt or innocence , but most historians acknowledge that the trial was so politicized that justice was not executed appropriately.
@Thespadecaller The witnesses couldn't put them at the crime scene. Many were defence witnesses who were thought untrustworthy and the court gave more weight to prosecution witnesses who were discredited. Modern ballistics would show that the bullets retrieved at the scene did not mach Sacco's gun and the police most likely planted evidence. S and V knew and helped people who probably did do violent crime but they were highly likely to be innocent of the crime for which they were executed
@Thespadecaller, Legally/Politically they have been acquitted by Gov. Dukakis in MA and I believe that most, if not all historians/lawyers/judges do agree that justice wasn't executed. The late Howard Zinn was a huge advocate for them... not many more legitimate historical resources than he was. Important evidence proving their innocence was thrown out during the trial because of their cultural/political beliefs... and because it was in Italian.
alot of families in florida have lost everything due to the party of NO!!!: ( : ( sure hope they r feeling good....while the little children down here suffer...now we have a governor coming in from the party of make the poor suffer....no extented unemployment, even when it's federal money....talk about hitler...his ways r with the NO's
If in Boston, you can check out copies of Sacco's and Venzetti's death certificates, their death masks, a canister of their ashes, box of bullets and other personal items at the Boston Public Library at Copley Square. You need to e-mail or call ahead so they can retrieve them from the archives.
Another point of interest, the Charles Street Jail where they were held--where the supposed Boston Strangler and Malcolm X were also jailed--was turned into the Liberty St. Hotel in 2007.
@ericx100 No, no, sorry. I don't know why I inserted the world 'street' into the name at all, it's just the Liberty Hotel and it's on Charles St., which isn't very ironic at all. I've walked passed the place enough times to know better.
@ericx100 Yeah, of course it's ironic, just not coincidentally ironic, which is always the best. The real irony is that what was once a storage building for the city's rejects and criminals, or supposed criminals as the case may be, is now only accessible to the wealthy--being as high class as it is. It would have made an interesting museum, considering the age of the place and status of some of the inmates, and could have brought money directly into the city as well.
@ForAnEnemy never get down on your knees girls an boys, men and women all round this planet no matter if youre black white green purple just try not to be yellow, take´em on these bloodsuckers that have´nt yet sussed that they can´t take it with them. once you get dowen on your knees youre bound to be kicked in the arse. let´em kiss your arse, show´em you don´t need, you don´t want them around..............all the best
@saltig71 it should be on the original folkways record which i had once. i just ordered the cd from the states hoping it has the same songs- including vanzettis letter to his family- on it
@saltig71 you´´ll find vanzettis letter to his family (probably also to woody) on the original folkways album as far as I remember (been a long time) you may also able to get the whole album on cd now not too dear- good luck
@saltig71 you´ll find it on the original folkways record, vanzettis letter to his family, probably to woody also and on cd I hope `cause I just ordered one.

hi there from the south germany (bavaria), had a friend from ireland once (cork), the name was collins if it rings a bell. younger than me he would´nt stop listening to the whole album. what I´ve learned from these 2 brave men and others is to detest people who think they need more than the average. show´em your disrespect, always do exactly the opposite of what they want you to do and think, tell`em to dump themselves and the trash they´ve gathered in the golf waters, lets get rid of them
the original point of the american government was to protect the rights of the people. It was to be a government of the people, for the people, by the people. There was never supposed to be a big fat government and the states were to remain sovereign, so much for that.
to give alittle insight. in the sixties they ran balistics test and saccos gun was used. but another tidbit vanzetti was charged for grand larseny and was executed. this was not a capital offense.
weren't the barrels switched? I am pretty sure, after reviewing all the evidence I have read in books and stuff, that any evidence they did have on them, was planted. Sacco had a picture taken that day far away from the crime. They did not have easy transportation like we do now. Sacco and Vanzetti were innocent of the crime they were charged and executed for. I believe magrath originally testified that all the bullets were fired from the same gun and fatal # 3 did not match that at trial.
Dylan was inspired by this man in the beginin' of his career but finally he prefered gettin' rich playing pop music. I guess he gots the american dream..
no he stopped playing folk music like this because after years of playing it he realized that you cant change the worlds opinion with a song, and it will never change anything no matter how good a song it is.
i disagree. i dont think he changed to get rich, i think dylan changed after he got tired of everyone calling him "the spokesman of the generation." he never wanted that.
@milliondustopeners well i dont think its alleged when they openly stated they were anarchists and went to anarchist meetings and rallies and preached anarchism.
to hell with any state regardless of capitalism or communism...the state is naturally power hungry and abusive....people are more than capable to rule themselves
well i see you paid attention in history class. but your final analysis is wrong. it is worth it! under Capitalism thousands die every day and millions suffer their whole lives. people first have to realize this then they will understand the need for a change, gradually but hopefully to Communism.
I agree with every ideal of Communism, it's just it's not compatable with man. No one wants to share the wealth, that's been made evident throughout mans history.
Yeah, and look at the fuss it's creating, people think it's going to be Red October in America 'cause he wants to tax the rich more and pass it on to the poor.
great song by a great man about 2 great anarchist who faced death for what they believed and never sold out. If only we had a 100 great men today. Death to the one party dictatorship in the USA. Vote anything but McCain or Obama and keep on learning and schooling the sheeple so we can bring about a truly Communist world. Communist in the true anarchist sense.
At 1:20, if you look carefully, Woody Guthrie's guitar has a sticker on it that reads, "This machine kills fascists!" 'nuff said. That is, until Woody begins to sing.
I fell a connection to this song I am being screwed over by the big corporation I work for and its not nearly as bad as this song. They just don't care about the little people that keep this world running thats the heart of a lot of folk music. Though my issue dose not come close to this.
