  • My brother is autistic and if ppl think that is ok then you are sick...There are other ways to keep them calm, THE TEACHERS NEED TO SIT AND WORK WITH THE DAMN PARENTS.. my brother never acted out till he was forced to do somthing when THEY KNEW he couldnt .. He needed a para pro, one who knows how to handle him/her and is there just for them. What child acts ok when they cant express how they feel? and are with ppl that dont know what to do???

  • So what are they supposed to do? Let him tear the place apart? Hurt someone?

  • suing for child abuse? are these people fucking mad? It isn't like they beat him. Blown waaaaay out of proportion.

  • only as a last resort. a last resort can not be said enough.

  • thats just so fucked up

  • ... it really doesn't look like the teachers are hurting him in ANYway... if anything YES they must hold him down.. to prevent him from hurting himself, and others... this is not abuse. not once do you see the adult HITTING the child....take a clear look.

  • wow. that is horrible

  • I say the teachers are brave they are doing what they can to control him the child clearly needs to be put in a different facility due to his extreme violent behavior. It would be abuse if staff members were purposely provoking these outburts of violence but they are not. I agree he is mentally challenged and not responsible for his behavior but in no way does it mean staff members should be less agressive when the child is practically winning the 'fight' Staff member safety is important also.

  • Those teachers are probably so violent because they weren't smart enough to make it as real teachers.

  • Many kids in special classes and not just autism are abused, neglected and treated egregiously or illegally-I know about this and had some real problems with public schools-I have seen a massive increase in those with authority in many fields over others who are abusive and denigrating...many poorly trained-but also many paid poorly as well-this is endemic in many areas in society lately-out of control-the corruption at the top is creating PROBLEM, REACTION, SOLUTION...Orwellian Doublespeak

  • ... on him one day. I went to the director at the rehab center and told her I wanted to change to a different therapist. And guess what? His behavior changed dramatically. He was now coming out of his therapy sessions smiling and laughing. The problem was the previous therapist, not my son. People who don't know what they're doing have no place working with these kids and are a waste of everyone's time and energy.

  • I was in jail, for beating up such staff members.

    :)

  • At lunch infront of all the other kids? What the fuck is that going to do for the boy, certinly not calm him down but fucking enrage him. FUCK teachers for real. They don't know shit.

  • My son is severely autistic and punches himself in the face and head. He can take his eyeball out with 50 punches in 50 seconds, if not restrained. The issue here is not the "evils" of restraint. The issue should be how to HUMANELY restrain and protect someone, temporarily, than try re-direction, sensory, etc...to avoid repeatedly restraining...I point this out after I caught hospital restraining my son. It's on video: "How to Better Treat Autistic Patients." I hope people watch and learn.

  • You cant dump autistic kids in a normal school environment and expect the same rules to apply to them. That's the real problem here. Unfortunately everyone is being so cheap. If the autistic students were placed in a school environment that was designed specifically for them and had teachers that were trained to communicate with them, I guarantee you'll see alot less autistic students resorting to violent behavior like this. It makes a huge difference.

  • leave autistic kids alone don't abuse them becuase they can not defend for them selve you sick idots hate you all

  • Autistic or not, that child is a disruption and a threat to others around him. It's his own fault that he's kicking things around and getting carpet burn from the movement of his resistance. Those parents are media attention whores who want sympathy and money to add to their beautiful 2 story house and their government support for their mistake of a child. And those abrasions are ridiculously un-newsworthy, I've had worse banging my knee into a table!

  • I had AS although I was born lower functning and was agressive and violent in school hit, kicked, bit and headbit all the time but never was restrained but then my teachers were afraid of me.

  • haha avery thats my name but i dont have autism

  • this is sad

  • @90findingnemo0 yes it is

  • I have a mental illness and have being restrained in school before. I now have back problems due from it. I've also had carpet burns and scrapes. The staff would sit on me and sometimes I could not breath. I think it's sick and inhumane to do this unless you are hurting yourself or some one else.

  • @Kristenlea100 i have autism and teachers use to do this to me

but when i told them i couldnt breathe they dont listen

i go to a better school now :)

    we play guitar hero

  • WHAT CRUELTY!! I should know, because I was autistic myself, and i too, was abused by teachers like James Norther, Tamara Wishnaski, Vicki Blair, Julie Marshall, Gordon Lemmons Eric Rico and an Ecquidorian teachers aide named Rau.

  • wow I was going to send my daughter that has autism,to that school. I will just keep her where she is at.

  • I have a coworker who is a teacher's aide and bus aide and she told me that restraint training is required for them every year. I've seen some of the bruises, scratches, and cuts that she's gotten from restraining a disturbed student. It can be very dangerous towards that student, the staff, and the rest of the other students. Sometimes you don't know how to react when restraining and your first instinct takes over.

  • after watching this video i want to say that aides are told this flipping of a table or desk is property destruction and that an aide must use these restrictive measures. is it a law in all states that you cant use these moves unless hitting or striking has occured?

  • these people are violent and a danger to themselves and others. and the families try and use "autism" or "disabilities" as a way to excuse this BAD and DANGEROUS behavior.

When i was in school there was a student that was autistic and he had physically attacked a few people.

With the families defending this behavior what is supposed to be done?

  • the safety of the other students should be top priority but it not always the parents fault ,it is bus aides, teachers and aides who abuse verbally and physically that cause a lot of the aggression these kids display.if parents knew half of what their child endured at school they would cry and take their kids out of school.there arent many specialized settings to put your child in so people who arent trained, end up with the jobs and these kids suffer and lash out

  • I would never use mine or my child's autism as an excuse, if I had been violent in school or if my children were I would expect them to be restrained in some way or other; what this report is saying is the restraining method is physically dangerous in itself to the student and to those using it and as such should only be exercised when absolutely necessary, and that flipping a table is not a threat in the same way that hitting or physically injuring themselves, other students and/or staff is.

  • @mortuis99 Not all autistic kids are violent and a danger to themselves. So dont judge on just knowing one person.

  • And THIS is what's happening in the United States!?!? I actually feel more safer in Mexico than in the US!!

  • there is a lot of things that makes me sick ,this is high on my list ,,pretty sad
