Any advice on getting that first riff (3-0-3-0-2-0) sounding right? I'm not sure if there is a slight pause between notes or how fast it needs to be played but I it just doesn't sound right for me.

Your timing is off, its not terrible but its not prefect either. The problem is your teaching the wrong timing when you play back in black at the beginning of your video. I learned it wrong a long time ago and had to pratice a lot to set my timing to the right one... so basically u fail get it right
